A Serpent's Tale
Synopsis
The gods did not return quietly. They woke like a storm in an alternate future, tore the sky open, and bent the world into a shape that pleased only them. Magic, once a rumor, poured back into the cracks of reality—into human hands, human hunger, human dreams. People built new creatures from sand and bone, rewrote the rules the gods had just laid down, and the order of heaven itself slipped.
Far from those celestial arguments, in a sun-blind city buried in the largest desert, two impossible beings met. From that brief collision came a child: a serpentine girl with hellfire in her blood and desert dust in her lungs. Her mother’s life was taken by a curse that smelled of old incense and cold iron. Her father, a demon given rare passage into the mortal realm, held the newborn once, twice, then was dragged back to his own burning kingdom, leaving behind only scorched footprints and a promise he could not keep.
The girl grows up with one anchor: another young serpentine who shares her wanderlust. Together they slip through markets and ruins, collecting scars and inside jokes, their friendship tightening into something quieter and deeper. Until the day curiosity leads them into a hidden, hollow place under the sand—a place with no doors, no sky, and only one way out.
Only one of them reaches the surface.
Now the serpent girl walks a world ruled by temperamental gods and reckless magic with no hand to hold, carrying every absence like another coil of her own body. Survival, for her, is no grand destiny; it is a slow, stubborn refusal to let grief turn her to stone.
