Chapter 234
Chapter 234 of "Chaotic Craftsman Worships The Cube" opens revealing: āAnd that should cover the lesson for this month. Any questions?ā Quilith asked as he... Keep going!
āAnd that should cover the lesson for this month. Any questions?ā Quilith asked as he wrapped things up for the night. As with every month, the alien was coming to teach Ben some principles of material science that he simply couldnāt get from the books he could access, the sort of cutting knowledge that the grey were experimenting with to try and determine the universes underlying properties, but as things went on and got more and more complicated there was something he couldnāt help but ask.āIs this still really material science? It feels more like youāre trying to sneak some physics in there.ā
Plenty of it was chemistry by now, and given the subtle differences he was noticing from the few classes on the subject he had to take on Earth he couldnāt help but be grateful that he hadnāt paid too much attention back then, it would have only confused him. Even if he didnāt remember the one from his homeworld too well, the periodic table the grey were constructing was obviously different, with some of the elements that made up this universe having shockingly different places compared to where they would on his old one, even if world speak considered them close enough to indicate them as equivalent in his head. Aside from that, there were some elements he knew were missing while whole new ones took their place. It was all helpful to an extent at least, but he couldnāt help but think that some of the newer things were less so.
āIāll have you know that baryon asymmetry is an important feature of every life-containing universe. Even after millennia of study our people still aren't sure why it's such a common feature of existence, but that doesnāt mean the fact that the reality you currently live in lacks its version of antimatter wouldnāt be relevant to you, especially given how both relate to mana.ā
āOkay, Iāll bite. How do they relate to mana?ā
āFrom what we can tell, they donāt. The presence of mana in this reality isnāt affected by particles or antiparticles, though it should be able to affect both in the same way. This leads to all sorts of interesting questions. If there was antimatter still, would there be anti-affinities of magic? Perhaps individuals like you that seem to have no affinity for any known ones might actually have affinities for oneās that the gods are unaware of based on the situation of the reality youāre all in.ā
āThat's neat in theory,ā He told the alien with a sigh. āBut it doesnāt exactly help me at all, does it? Even if that was the case and I secretly had the right constitution to master some non-existent anti-affinities, my body is made up of the standard matter of the universe. Trying to be close enough to anything like that would leave a healthy crater in my place.ā
āTrue,ā Quilith relented. āBut that doesnāt mean the information lacks relevance to you. Weāll stick to the normal lessons of course, we just want to start slowly drifting to more hypothetical materials. Even if you canāt use them, youāre proving decent to bounce ideas off of.ā
āWell, I guess itās interesting enough so I donāt mind, but why?ā
āAs we see more of the mythic ranked items the gods have managed to gift their races, we're simply seeing some of the potential that comes from using advanced magic while ignoring the limits of what we believe is possible.ā
That caught his attention. The only mythic ranked items heād seen were the trial of anailia and Inuxās body, both things that were complex in ways he still struggled to understand while the first wasnāt even an item.
āAlright, youāve got my attention. What are some of the more interesting things? Come on, donāt hold out on me.ā
The grey could immediately see the change in Benās eyes as his curiosity overtook him and took mercy on the human, explaining a few heād seen before he left.
āThereās only a handful on the world and we havenāt been able to study them in great detail, but there are things like the body of your talos, made up of materials that donāt seem to fit the models weāve produced so far, but a few even more interesting ones as well. A staff made of solidified light that seems to not only have the effect of significantly empowering any light magic that passes through it, but also helps to raise the userās overall proficiency with it as well. Weāve seen a sword made of spacetime, able to cut through anything, even spells. Lastly, of the more interesting weāve been allowed to see would be an intangible floating sphere. Neither I nor the race that possess it understands what it's for and since the god who made it died we may never, but it and the other two I mentioned were all appraised as upper-mythic.ā
āAlright, sold. How do I get to see them?ā Everything the grey had described was just so tantalizing. He wanted to get his hands on each one to examine in detail and plunder their secrets to apply to his own work. He couldnāt begin to imagine how the things being described were made, but he wanted to know.
āUnfortunately, even if I wanted to, I couldn't help you on that front. The races that possess items of such quality prefer to keep them hidden from others. The only reason we were able to see them was because weāre not a part of this universe, they donāt have to worry about us attempting anything on them. Anyway, I have other duties to attend to. Iāll see you next month.ā
With that he vanished, leaving Ben alone with his curiosity as he struggled to figure out just how constructing such things would be possible. āFreaking tease.ā
He asked, switching to thinking to his god since he didnāt doubt that he might still have someone watching, as paranoid as the thought might seem.
Heād avoided every hint Quilith threw out about wanting to talk about whatever issue was affecting his race. Ben knew he was on the list of potential individuals who they thought might be able to do something, but he intentionally didnāt learn more than that. If he did he felt he just might get dragged into even more nonsense than he already had been by being brought to a whole other world.
He let out a low whistle.
He put away all of his notes heād made while talking with Quilith and brought out some different ones as he began talking aloud to the case on his desk that contained Inuxās core.
āSo Iāve gone through a lot of my books on more advanced affinity spells and enchantments by this point, and by applying what Iād seen of both the ones that made up your body, as well as the ones that were used to make up the form of my god, I think Iām on the right track for putting all of that information to use. Thereās some holes still, but I should be able to properly seal a soul into a rainbow mana crystal by the time Iām a ninth-level enchanter, which is better than I thought. Originally I was expecting to need an awakened skill at least, so the fact that Iām ahead of that has some positive implications for being able to construct you a new body.ā
He thought back to his god before continuing. āIf I manage to seal a soul then aside from my original goal of using it with a beast form skill, Iāll also be able to use it for testing body construction. All I need to do is pick up a demon soul, try to fit it into any potential body in a way that would let the soul interact with, make adjustments and repeat until Iāve got something. That does have the small issue in that if I make any mistakes Iāll need to go collect another soul, but thatās a smaller one in the grand scheme of things.ā
For the rest of the night, he continued to mutter away while adjusting his plans and theories, eager to reach the point where all of his ideas could be put into practice.
