The first time Quinn Brooks hears Michael Sarris play, the drums hit her like a confession.

Onstage, the lead drummer of Devil’s Halo is all sweat, grin, and reckless noise—the kind of beautiful trouble the tabloids love. Offstage, Mikey is louder still, filling every silence with jokes, tequila shots, and flirting that feels like standing too close to a lit match. No one notices how carefully he keeps the volume up.

Quinn notices everything.

She’s made a life out of it: reading the room, stitching people back together, swallowing her own hurt so she can carry everyone else’s. Calm hands. Steel spine. Eyes that miss nothing and a smile sharp enough to keep most people at arm’s length.
