Synopsis

By seven in the morning, Huang Jun’s shirt already smells of soy sauce and baby shampoo.

He’s a single father with twin girls who refuse to be separated, even for class. The problem is simple and brutal: their dream kindergarten, Dorami, costs more than he has in his wallet, his bank account, and the jar of coins by the sink combined.

Then the “life assistant system” wakes up in his phone like a very cheerful parasite—listing recipes, scheduling nap times, suggesting ways to stretch a carrot into three different dishes and a snack. It can’t hand him money, but it can teach him how to turn a half-empty pantry into magic.

So Huang Jun walks into Dorami Kindergarten not as a parent, but as the new kitchen help.

The first day, the children fall silent at the smell of his broth. The second day, they start lining up early, chubby hands on the counter, calling him “Uncle Chef.” By the end of the week, word has slipped past the gates. Kids from polished, prestigious schools arrive with transfer forms, drawn by rumors of crispy scallion pancakes and a cook who cuts fruit into clumsy, earnest stars.

Teachers who never cared about cooking suddenly want to work “near the kitchen.” A retired soldier asks if they need a security guard. Neighbors volunteer as caregivers, drifting in on the scent of simmering stock and laughter.

Between boiling pots and sticky fingers pulling at his apron, Huang Jun finds something he didn’t know he was building: a place where his daughters—and everyone else’s children—are fed, seen, and stubbornly, joyfully refused by the world to be treated as an afterthought.
