Along the damp river’s edge, where reeds hiss in the wind, beastkin crouch with splintered spears and crude snares, arguing in low growls over who will claim the next kill. Far to the north, under snow-heavy clouds, human adventurers polish scratched wands, check the tightness of corks in potion bottles, and mark new routes on worn maps, already dreaming of the treasures they’ll drag home this year.

None of them spare a second glance for the jelly-like thing oozing through the mud.

To hunters and mages alike, a slime is nothing—fodder, nuisance, practice target. This one plays along. It quivers. It hides in footprints and under roots. It lets itself be ignored, because anonymity is the sharpest blade it currently owns.

While they sharpen wood and steel, it cultivates. While they plan expeditions, it listens to the whisper of Dao in every droplet it absorbs. Somewhere else—on another plane, another world—its other self claws its way toward Foundation Establishment, bricks of a distant cultivation base laid one breath at a time.

When the flying sword is finally tempered and cooled, when the Dao techniques have been polished until they cut cleaner than any fanged beast or human spell, those two lives will align.

On that day, prey will stop pretending to be prey.
