âThe Syndicate wonât hit the club first,â he continued. âTheyâll hit individual members and will probably start with those who were closest to Savage.â
Chloe crossed her arms tightly over herself. âYou keep saying that.â
âBecause itâs true,â Vengeance growled.
âShe doesnât leave this clubhouse alone anymore,â Bowie said flatly to his guys.
âThatâll help,â Vengeance grumbled.
Bowie barked a harsh laugh. âWhat, you donât think that hiding my daughter in the clubhouse will help to keep her safe?â
âNo,â Vengeance answered honestly. âBut itâll keep her breathing for the time being.â
That nearly started a fight. One biker surged forward instantly. âWatch your fucking mouth?ââ
âEnough,â Bowie snapped. The room fell silent again. Vengeance respected him for that alone. Most clubs lost their damn minds when emotions got high, but Bowie still had control of Savage Hell.
âWhat do they want?â Bowie finally asked.
âTerritory, access, money. Savage kept Huntsville locked down for years. Now they think thereâs weakness here. They want everything the Bastards own,â Vengeance said.
âThere isnât weakness here,â Bowie growled.
âI know that,â Vengeance said, âbut they donât.â
Chloe suddenly spoke up beside him. âWhy do I feel like youâre leaving something out?â His eyes slid to hers. She was a smart girlâtoo smart, because there was something he hadnât told them yet. It was something that was going to make this entire situation infinitely worse. The Syndicate didnât just want Savage Hell; they wanted Chloe specifically, and judging by the contract Vengeance had seen with her picture attached to it, they wanted her alive for a reason.

JONNAS
Jonnas Black was a player. He didnât mind when women called him that, and he certainly didnât deny it. He had learned a long time ago to embrace who he wasâfor better or worse. But the woman standing in front of him, holding a pregnancy test and telling him that the baby was his, was about to change his status. He didnât know too many dads in their forties who heâd consider to be players. Maybe his playing days were over. Or maybe the woman was just looking for someone to pin her kid on, and he just happened to be a good fit.
He didnât remember sleeping with her, but that didnât mean anything. He had slept with countless women whom he didnât remember the next day. Thatâs why he didnât date anyone at the hospital where he worked. As a hospital administrator, HR frowned upon him dating the nurses and doctors who worked there. And he learned a long time ago that he shouldnât shit where he ateâas vulgar as that sounded.
But he fucked up, and sleeping with Dani Hart had proven that to him. She was a newer nurse at the hospital, way too young for him, and now was claiming to be pregnant with his baby.
Dani stood in his office, clutching a plastic stick in her hand like it was a loaded gun. Two pink lines stared back at him, screaming the words, "You fucked up!â He looked at the test as though it had hurt him in some wayâcutting him deep.
âHow do you know that Iâm the father?â he asked. It was one of the first things he said to her besides, âHello,â since she stepped into his office.
âAre you accusing me of lying about this, Jonnas? I came here to let you know, out of courtesy, that youâre going to be a father, and thatâs what you have to say to me? Hell, do you even remember who I am, or was I just another notch in your bedpost?â That stung, but the truth usually did.
âOf course I remember you, Dani,â he said, using her name as though proving his point. Her name was about the only thing he remembered about their night together. Well, that and the fact that they were both drunk. Not a good way to start off being parents together, but that was never the goal.
âI wore a condom,â he said, more to himself than to her. âI had to have worn a condom. Iâm always careful.â
âYeah, well, I was too drunk to notice if you wore one or not, and you werenât in much better shape. If you did wear one, they arenât foolproof,â she reminded.
Dani stared him down as he tried to think back to their night together, as though remembering would give him the answers that he needed. She looked pissed, and he couldnât blame her. She was a newer nurseâbright-eyed, eager, and far too young for him. Heâd told himself it was a one-time lapse in judgment. They had one drink too many at a hospital mixer. He had one moment of weakness and made one giant mistake, apparently, because now that mistake had a heartbeat.
âThis isnât a joke,â she said, her voice tight as she stared at him. âI took three tests, and for the recordâyouâre the only manthat Iâve been with this year, so yeah, Iâm positive that youâre the father, asshole.â
Jonnas winced as he leaned back against his desk. He deserved every nasty name that she could think of calling him. He sat there, trying to wrap his mind around the idea that his carefully controlled world had just been detonated. âYouâre sure itâs mine?â he asked again, as though the first few times that she had said that to him still hadnât sunk into his skull.
Her eyes flashed. âYou were the only man I was with all fucking year. Are you even listening to me, Jonnas?â Her words hit him harder than he expected as they finally began to make sense to him.
