At 6:30 PM, Wen Xin finished placing her nurse uniform and cap properly in the changing room, and after donning those three masks, she arrived at the entrance of the lobby on the first floor. She stood at the doorway, looking around in all directions.
Checking the time, it was just about now that she should have seen Ye Qiu, but could it be that Ye Qiu was only talking big?
That left Wen Xin feeling somewhat disappointed and disheartened.
However, she and Ye Qiu didnât know each other, so why should Ye Qiu help her?
"Hey, Miss Nurse, are you waiting for someone?"
A voice came from behind Wen Xin.
Wen Xin turned around and saw that it was indeed Ye Qiu.
"Dr. Ye, when did you get here?"
"Iâve been here for ten minutes already, waiting for you in the car."
The weather was so hot now, it felt like a blast of hot air followed wherever you went!
As Wen Xin followed Ye Qiu into his car, and Ye Qiu turned on the air conditioning, Wen Xin felt much more comfortable. However, seeing that Wen Xin was still wearing the masks, he asked, "Do you have an ugly face?"
"No, not at all,"
Wen Xin replied.
"Then did you eat a rotten egg?"
Wen Xin didnât know what to say.
"Or did you become a stinky tofu?"
Questioned by Ye Qiu like this, Wen Xin nearly wanted to cry.
Indeed, the odor emanating from her mouth was akin to the smell of stinky tofu mixed with rotten eggs bought from the side of the street, only ten times stronger.
This was why she wore three masks, and even when she spoke, the unpleasant breath was still distinctly noticeable.
Wen Xin dared not look at Ye Qiu, but Ye Qiu said, "Take off the masks."
After a struggle within, Wen Xin removed the three masks one by one but quickly rolled down the car window, afraid that her bad breath would offend Ye Qiu sitting next to her.
When Ye Qiu looked over, he saw that Wen Xin had a melon seed-shaped face, cherry-like lips, and water-bright eyes, a Jiangnan style beauty as delicate as Jade.
Yet, her eyes kept darting away, not daring to look at Ye Qiu because of the bad breath that she had suffered from for many years.
In big cities, it was common to see many young women wearing masks.
Some wore them because they were sick with a cold or something else.
Others because the outside air was polluted.
And yet others because they felt unattractive and hid their features behind masks, so nobody could tell what their face looked like.
But now, it was unmistakably clear that Wen Xin wore those masks because of her severe bad breath.
"You are quite beautiful, you know!"
Ye Qiu remarked.
Upon hearing Ye Qiu say this, Wen Xin felt a little better.
Ye Qiu drove away from there, heading toward the riverside of the Qinhuai River in Jiangnan.
Coming to a spot by the Qinhuai River, Ye Qiu parked the car, and when he and Wen Xin got out of the vehicle, Wen Xin kept her mouth tightly shut, afraid to speak and have her bad breath detected by others from afar.
The Qinhuai River area was most renowned for having beverage shops during the day, including all sorts of drinks, and bars at night. Ye Qiu took Wen Xin into a milk tea shop, where a female server dressed in a cartoon uniform approached to greet them.
"Table for two?"
"Do you have private rooms?"
"Yes, sir."
The waitress thought these two were a couple as she led Ye Qiu and Wen Xin to the private room.
"Bring in some drinks and snacks."
Only after the waitress left did Wen Xin dare to look up at Ye Qiu.
"Donât worry, I will cure you shortly."
Usually, the reasons behind bad breath are due to personal oral issues, but Ye Qiu had noticed that Wen Xinâs lips, which revealed beautiful and neat teeth, could not possibly be the cause of her bad breath.
"Open your mouth, let me have a look."
Ye Qiu said.
Wen Xin, making sure she truly didnât mind, opened her mouth for Ye Qiu to examine.
Ye Qiu looked carefully and didnât find any decayed teeth or other oral issues that could cause bad breath in Wen Xinâs mouth.
When Ye Qiu took Wen Xinâs wrist to feel her pulse, he quickly realized that her stomach wasnât in good condition.
Often, many girls suffer internal issues, including stomach problems, because of this or that reason.
Wen Xin, being a nurse, usually worked from morning till night, and sometimes got so busy during lunch or dinner that she couldnât even drink water.
"Your stomach isnât in good shape, digestive issues are causing your severe bad breath."
"Iâve seen many doctors, and they all said the same, but the medicine they prescribed never cured me."
Wen Xin hadnât expected Ye Qiu to diagnose her stomach issues so quickly.
The cause of her bad breath and severe odor wasnât her oral cavity but her stomach, which was why it hadnât been cured for so long.
"When did it start?"
"It seems to have started in ninth grade, during my middle school examination preparations. I was so busy then; maybe the irregular life pattern caused it. Initially, the odor was mild, and I didnât pay much attention to it. It only began to worsen in high school, and it continued to be severe even after I went to nursing school and up to now."
"How did the other doctors treat it?"
Ye Qiu asked, looking at Wen Xin.
"They prescribed digestive medicine for the stomach, but it was ineffective. One of them even said that to cure it, Iâd need to transplant someone elseâs feces into my stomach because I lacked certain digestive bacteria, causing poor digestion. Gradually, food wasnât digested properly, resulting in a constant foul breath directly emerging from my mouth."
After getting familiar with Ye Qiu, Wen Xin also began to open up.
Upon hearing the door being pushed open, Wen Xin quickly clammed up, while the waitress, carrying drinks and snacks, came in and smelled a heavy odor.
Had these two just been eating stinky tofu or stinky eggs?
After the waitress put down the drinks and snacks, she hurried out of the private room.
Once the door was closed, Ye Qiu asked, "So, you donât have many friends normally?"
Wen Xin nodded and replied, "I donât dare to talk to others."
"Close your eyes for ten minutes, and I will cure you very quickly!"
When Wen Xin heard Ye Qiu say that, she knew he was about to treat her. She quickly closed her eyes, sitting very properly opposite Ye Qiu.
Ye Qiu then opened the windows of the private room, letting the outside air blow in and slowly disperse the unpleasant odor before closing the door again.
The air conditioning was on, and the room was still very comfortable.
Ye Qiu sat down, placed his hand about ten centimeters away from Wen Xinâs chest, and roughly ten minutes later, retracted his hand. Wen Xin was still there with closed eyes, looking very devout.
"Itâs done, youâre fine now!"
