Chen Changsheng chuckled at being called ‘grandpa.’ “I’m not quite that old, surely?”
Su Junhan playfully patted the cubs. “Go play, now. Uncle Su and Grandpa Chen have matters to discuss.”
“Okay!”
The polite cubs hopped off to play in the mountains.
Watching their innocent joy, Chen Changsheng turned to Su Junhan. “Yuan Mountain is far more peaceful than I expected.”
“How did you think it would be, Mr. Chen?” Su Junhan asked.
Chen Changsheng said, “I thought Demon Kings might fight for territory. Didn’t picture such a paradise.”
Su Junhan smiled faintly. “Monsters here treasure their peace. They won’t foolishly throw it away.”
“True.” Chen Changsheng nodded. “Likely you worked hard guiding the Demon Race toward this.”
Su Junhan answered, “There were troublemakers at first, of course. When these mountains were newly settled, problems arose. I had to kill several Demon Kings.”
Chen Changsheng paused. “How many?”
Su Junhan thought a moment. “Hard to recall. But fighting Demon Kings? More than thirty, surely.”
Truthfully, more than that—he downplayed the number.
After the Liangjie Ranges split two realms, monsters claimed peaks as their own, causing bloody conflict. Su Junhan spent over a year eliminating every defiant Demon King.
That year, over seventy percent of monsters across the Hundred-Demon Peaks perished. Sixty percent of those died by Su Junhan’s hand.

Beyond the clan land, a narrow path seemed to climb toward a small hill.
Not a single guard stood along the road. Peace permeated Yuan Mountain.

Su Junhan laughed. “Funny you mention that. I sometimes feel the same way.”
The human and fox reached the foot of the small hill.
Su Junhan paused. “Mr. Chen, please wait here briefly.”

Su Junhan walked onto the hill. Chen Changsheng waited outside, viewing the place. Rich Spiritual Energy soaked the land—a blessed location.
As Chen Changsheng observed, a woman’s furious voice suddenly pierced from the hill.
“Tell him to GO AWAY!!”
Chen Changsheng was startled. Then Su Junhan stepped back out.
Weariness lined Su Junhan’s face. “Mr. Chen, my Elder Sister has…”
Chen Changsheng understood. That shout had been meant for him.
Su Junhan explained, “She waited for you all these years. Some resentment gathered. Please don’t take it personally.”
“Perhaps I should go in,” Chen Changsheng suggested. “Speak with her myself?”
Su Junhan weighed it. “Perhaps that’s best. She speaks in anger, nothing more.”
Chen Changsheng took slow steps onto the hill.
From outside, nothing seemed special. But within lay an emerald lake, centered by an ancient tree standing firm for over a thousand years.
The instant Chen Changsheng entered, a mocking laugh cut the air.
“How dare you show your face here, you heartless scoundrel?”
