Chapter 49: Superhero Luna

"Is that... Luna?"

Loren spotted a familiar figure in the crowd. Among those scarecrows, Luna, dressed in her superhero outfit, stood out conspicuously.

If this were before, Loren definitely wouldn't have paid too much attention, because the Blackened couldn't do anything to her. Even if she encountered a whole group, it would just mean spending a bit more time dealing with them.

But this time was different. These Blackened possessed . Even a witch couldn't escape its instant death effect, let alone the fact that there was now an information gap.

They only knew that some people had died inexplicably, but they didn't know how they died, leaving them with little defense against Silent Sob.

Yet, even under these circumstances, Luna still charged at the very front. She still made no attempt to take the Blackened's lives, choosing instead to purify them after defeating them, just like before.

Those scarecrows were all hiding in the back, going through the motions without putting in real effort, merely using long-range magic to hinder the Blackened's advance. The people inside the palace had long since fled, riding magical beasts, truly living up to the phrase "cherishing one's life above all else."

"Forget it, I'd better go over there."

In the end, Loren was still somewhat worried about Luna and decided to make a trip.

He also left the sword at home. The one who used the sword was the Robed Figure; his Master Mentor used guns.

"There are too many of them..."

The Blackened were unusually numerous today. Luna pierced a Blackened with her silver sword, and after purifying him, the scarecrows who had been hiding behind her immediately rushed forward to tie the Blackened up.

When other Blackened charged at them, they hurriedly retreated behind Luna again, using a few first or second-tier spells just for show, watching helplessly as Luna continued to struggle desperately to hold on.

Originally, they had been putting in some effort, but after they saw that scarecrows had actually died, they instantly turtled up.

Luna raised her silver sword, parrying a Blackened's claw, repelling him while simultaneously kicking away another Blackened who pounced at her.

Sweat had already soaked Luna's temples. Her deep blue hair strands were stuck together. Luna gasped for breath, the hand holding her sword trembling.

But the Blackened gave her no time to catch her breath, pouncing at her once more, relying not on any skill but purely on instinct driven by rage.

Luna dodged sideways, stabbing through a Blackened with a backhanded thrust. Since the damage she inflicted would be repaired during purification, Luna fought without too many reservations, her silver sword directly aiming for vital points. As long as they didn't die, they could be saved during purification.

This was also why General Duanmu dared to strike with lethal force. Slaughtering the Orcs wouldn't actually kill the people.

"Purify..."

A silvery moonlight enveloped the Blackened, the mutations on their bodies gradually fading.

Even now, those scarecrows showed no intention of making a move, and Luna had already confirmed that the palace interior was completely empty.

"You don't deserve my help."

The symbolic light of purification suddenly dissipated. Luna sheathed her sword, but at that very moment, the other Blackened pointed their fingers at her.

Any body part could activate Silent Sob, but the most effective were the fingers.

"Watch out!"

Loren made a flying tackle, grabbing Luna and rolling with her on the ground for several revolutions, successfully dodging the launched fingers.

Loren pushed himself off the ground, trying to stand up. The face of Luna beneath him instantly flushed red, because she now saw who had saved her.

"Master Mentor... why are you here..."

Upon seeing Loren, Luna's reaction clearly slowed for a beat. When other Blackened attacked again, it was Loren who rolled with her on the ground to dodge.

Luna clenched her fists, looking at the carnage around her, then glancing at Loren, immediately feeling a wave of remorse.

A large part of the reason she had actively taken on the Blackened was because she had previously discovered that some Blackened had tried to attack Loren.

And now, because of her willfulness, it was Loren who had to come save her.

Their conversation obviously didn't escape the scarecrows' ears. Realizing that Loren had concealed crucial information, they felt somewhat dissatisfied—after all, quite a few scarecrows had died because of it.

"Master Mentor, since you knew about this, why didn't you tell us?"

Dead colleagues didn't matter; what mattered was that they themselves could also die.

"Ridiculous. I already told the King the method to eradicate the Blackened, but he turned a deaf ear. For greater benefits, he chose to fill the gap with your lives. What could I do?"

Loren skillfully shifted the blame. He didn't waste any more time. Loren directly tore off the explosives he had been carrying tied to his waist and, the moment he threw them, picked up Luna and ran away at top speed.

"I'll leave this place to you all. Farewell!"

The scarecrows were stunned for a moment before realizing what Loren had thrown. By the time they wanted to run, it was already too late. The shockwave from the exploding explosives blasted them all into the air, along with the Blackened.

These Blackened were no match for the scarecrows, provided they were willing to fight. So, Loren didn't pay it much mind.

"Master Mentor, did I do something wrong? They're simply not worth me saving them."

"Even... making you risk danger to save me..."

"You've finally realized it..."

Loren felt gratified by this.

Loren ran all the way back to his own bedroom before finally setting Luna down.

When she realized where she was, Luna's face flushed red, and her speech even became stuttered.

"This is... your... bedroom?"

Luna looked at the furnishings in Loren's bedroom, feeling somewhat apprehensive, even though Loren didn't have anything particularly private here.

However, Loren didn't respond to these questions of hers, instead continuing to guide Luna.

"I think you also know the reason why the Blackened become Blackened. Unless they were truly bullied to the extreme, their hatred wouldn't make them Blacken. Rather than stopping the Blackened, it's better to deal with those who made them Blacken."

"Those Blackened are also pitiful people. All they seek is fairness."

While speaking, Loren also handed Luna a bottle of magic potion. After drinking it, Luna felt her stamina rapidly recovering.

She wasn't really injured, but even so, Loren handed her another bottle of healing potion.

Luna knew the magic potions Loren gave her were no ordinary items. She felt somewhat embarrassed to accept them, but under Loren's insistence, she still drank the potion.

Even when coming out to be a superhero in the middle of the night, Luna still wore the "protective charm." Loren felt somewhat gratified; she was quite obedient. Otherwise, Loren wouldn't have discovered she was in danger so quickly.

"Master Mentor, who's in your bedroom?"

Just as Loren was about to continue speaking, the bedroom door was knocked on. Naclis's voice came from outside the door, and her knock was merely a formality, as she pushed the door open the very next second.

Then she saw Loren and Luna sitting side by side on the bed, very close together, with Luna holding Loren's magic potion in her hand.

Somehow, Loren suddenly had a feeling of being caught in the act, but he quickly adjusted his mindset.

"Lu... that anonymous superhero encountered danger and is temporarily resting at our place."

"Is that so?"

A sudden wave of pressure emanated from Naclis, startling Luna and making her shiver. As for Loren, he breathed a sigh of relief. It was good that Naclis was back to normal.
