âWith the heist.â
He really was far too adorable sometimes. âItâs not a heist if Iâm not taking anything.â
âWhatever. I trust you to do it on your own, Iâm not trying to be a babysitter, but weâre working on this together, arenât we?â
He wasnât off base with that request, but Isaac couldnât give in without some stipulations. âYou donât do business the way I do. Youâre green where it comes to practical runs on security. But I suppose I could allow this, as long as you follow my rules.â
âSuch as?â Andrew asked skeptically.
âI make the plan, and you follow my lead, period.â
Isaac would swear a shiver ran down Andrewâs spine. He did like taking orders.
âFine,â he said with faint color touching his cheeks again. âJust tell me where and when.â
Here. Now.Isaac recalled Andrewâs words from the alley before heâd slammed him up against the wall. Andrew must have thought of that too, because he bit his lip and flicked his eyes furtively down Isaacâs body, flustered and eager again.
Isaac couldnât deny how much it made him eager too. Everything about today and how things had gone down was a net positive in his mind.
âGuess weâre finished. Any lunch plans?â Riley asked Dalton.
Except that.
âWhich reminds meâŚâ Andrew said, suddenly sheepish. âThereâs, uhh⌠something I need to ask you all. Well, not Riley.â
Riley scowled, but what caught Isaacâs attention was the way Andrew bit his lip again, this time with a scrunched brow.
âPlease donât be mad.â
Chapter 7
ISAAC
Dinner.Familydinner.WithDetective Wen of all people!
Isaac had flat out said no, never, nonsense, but as soon as Dalton had a say, heâd been forced to give in. It didnât matter if they pulled off the fake former dating charade, or not talking about how Andrew was the one who put him in jail. It would still end in disaster, because family dinner at Andrewâs wouldnât be anything like family dinner at Isaacâs.
Even after theyâd parted for the day, he hadnât been able to shake the image of what that would be like. Andrewâs beautiful little home with happy, smiling faces in it, not at all like what Isaac had grown up with.
It was silly to be envious. The Wens were hardly a nuclear family anymore. Kevin and Candace would be there, Andrewâs mother had passed away, and his father was in another state. Neither son was married nor currently involved with anyoneâtechnically, on Andrewâs part. Their family was its own kind of mess.
But it was a loving, law-abiding, upper-middle-class mess.
Isaac wanted to backtrack, sayâactually, raincheck tillneverâbut Dalton had looked so excited, he hadnât been able to say no.
His glare at Andrew afterward made it clear that he was not happy. Dalton figured his parent-trapping was simply closer to succeeding; he didnât understand that the only reason Steven wanted them over was so he could judge them.
It was difficult to stay mad at Andrew though, when he pulled Isaac aside while they were still in his front lobby and whispered, âIâll make it up to you.â
âHow?â
âDo you want to go over that test run in my office?â Andrew asked louder, running his tongue over his lips with a heat in his eyes that no one else could see.
The rest of the group was dispersing, and the offer made Isaac forget that he should care Dalton was headed out the door with Rileyâwith Kevin too, thankfully. Candace mentioned something about a PO Box or bank deposits and excused herself as well. If she came back early, sheâd be safely at her desk.
And Andrew did owe him.
The moment the door clicked closed behind them, Andrew had him pinned up against it, pupils dilated, and lips reddened from how much heâd been biting them. âI canât stop thinking about fucking you.â
