Synopsis

By the time the first real snow settles over Siren’s Point, Nils Lee has already stacked his firewood, shut the coop against the wind, and battened down his life to the size of his small, quiet house. Winter, for him, is a season of soft clucking, steaming mugs, and days where no one says his name.

Oliver Martin’s winters are louder. Pipes burst. Gutters sag. The to‑do list on his kitchen counter grows longer while the silence inside his own walls presses in. He patches roofs by day and comes home to peeling paint and the kind of loneliness that makes him sing to fill the rooms.

They see each other constantly—at work, over the fence line, in the narrow strip of yard between their houses where Nils pretends he’s just checking on the chickens and Oliver pretends he isn’t waiting for that excuse. Cups of coffee get shared, rides get offered, jokes get half‑finished before one of them looks away. It’s almost a life together, except for the part neither of them knows how to name.

Oliver has been told he’s too much his whole life: too scattered, too bright, talking in spirals that wear people out. Nils, who has built his days around deliberate quiet, seems like the last man who’d want that kind of weather inside his home.

Then the storm comes—the kind that erases roads and options in a single night. With the world reduced to white outside their windows and a single fire burning between them, the small space they’ve been carefully keeping becomes impossible to maintain. What begins as shelter from the wind turns into a reckoning: two men, one room, and the slow, undeniable heat of finally choosing not to be alone.
