Chapter 22 - 22: 22: Daily Loan Projects

Professor Flitwick's office was right next to the Charms classroom.

In fact, many classrooms and offices at Hogwarts were arranged this way, convenient for professors so they could reach their classrooms quickly without navigating countless shifting staircases.

Lucien and Professor Flitwick walked a few steps to the office and sat across from each other at the table.

A teapot floated up on its own and poured tea into the cups before them.

Lucien picked up his teacup, blew away the steam, and took a small sip.

"Oh, authentic Fortnum & Mason tea. The taste is truly exquisite."

Professor Flitwick waved his hand, and the desk drawer opened by itself.

From a tin, small, delicate pocket cakes floated out, bouncing as they landed neatly on a dessert stand.

Seeing this, Lucien recalled Cho's words: Professor Flitwick was a particularly kind professor.

According to her, if a young wizard came to see their Head of House while feeling down, he would even make the little cakes dance like cowboys to cheer them up.

No wonder Professor Flitwick had such a good reputation among the students.

Who wouldn't like a professor who was knowledgeable, skilled in teaching, and genuinely cared for his students?

"Mr. Grafton, what question would you like to ask?"

Lucien's eyes shone with a hunger for knowledge as he earnestly replied:

"Professor, you can just call me Lucien. It's about the Undetectable Extension Charm. I have some questions I'd like you to answer."

Lucien's question made Flitwick raise an eyebrow; he hadn't expected such advanced magic to be the first topic brought up.

But he still asked gently, "Are you interested in this spell and want to try learning it?"

To his surprise, Lucien shook his head.

"No, Professor, I have already initially learned the Undetectable Extension Charm.

I want to ask how to apply other magic—such as a Warming Charm, a Waterproofing Charm, or a Cleaning Charm—onto an object that has already had the Undetectable Extension Charm cast on it without blowing up the whole thing.

And how can an Undetectably Extended container hold living creatures?"

To save time and to convince Professor Flitwick that he truly had learned the Undetectable Extension Charm, Lucien spoke as he picked up an empty teacup.

He drew his wand and flicked his wrist.

"Spatium Extendere (Undetectable Extension Charm)!"

The inner wall of the teacup immediately shimmered with several complex patterns, extending and intertwining before rapidly fading away.

Lucien set the teacup down and used a Levitation Charm to guide the teapot, pouring tea into the cup.

Professor Flitwick stared at the teacup without blinking. The tea flowed steadily from the spout, yet not a single drop overflowed the rim.

It wasn't until the last drop fell, sending a ripple across the surface, that Flitwick finally reacted, looking up at Lucien in astonishment.

The Undetectable Extension Charm was a spell only introduced to senior students preparing for their N.E.W.T.s—and even then, most failed to master it.

But now, a first-year wizard, who had only been at Hogwarts for one day—no, one class—had successfully cast it?

Who had taught him?

Admittedly, in Flitwick's view, Lucien's Undetectable Extension Charm was not yet perfectly refined; there was still room for improvement.

But he had done it! Right in front of him—Flitwick, a Charms Professor—Lucien had successfully cast the spell!

Seeing that Professor Flitwick remained silent, Lucien cautiously asked:

"Professor, is what I'm envisioning impossible to achieve? Or is there a regulation against it? If it causes you difficulty, we can skip this question."

Lucien's words immediately brought Flitwick back to his senses. He lifted the teacup in front of him, trying to steady the shock in his heart.

But the hand holding the cup still trembled slightly.

"Oh no, your idea is entirely feasible. As for regulations… No, there's nothing against learning such magic while at school."

Flitwick quickly drained his cup, moistening his dry mouth and tongue.

He was about to pour another when he remembered the pot was empty.

Awkwardly, Flitwick waved his hand, and fresh tea leaves and hot water floated into the pot.

"Ahem, Lucien, your idea is excellent. And your talent is… very good."

Flitwick had wanted to praise Lucien more, but found that any words of praise felt inadequate, not enough to capture him, and so he simply settled on "good."

"Let's start by discussing how to apply other magic to an object that has had the Undetectable Extension Charm cast on it."

Pulling out his wand, Flitwick cast the Undetectable Extension Charm on another empty cup.

"Unlike layering other spells, since the Undetectable Extension Charm involves the expansion of space… When casting, you need to adjust the points and layers where the spell takes effect…"

Listening carefully to Professor Flitwick's detailed explanation, Lucien imitated and practiced.

And the more Flitwick taught, the more astonished he became.

Lucien's progress was far too quick; he already seemed to have mastered several common spells.

As for those he hadn't learned before, Lucien only needed to see them demonstrated once—sometimes without even needing much explanation—and he could successfully cast them after just one or two tries.

With each additional casting, his proficiency improved rapidly.

From Lucien's perspective, the system panel was constantly updating:

Daily Loans carried the lowest interest among magic loans, and the rewards were generally modest—useful only for quickly getting started with some spells. The tasks required were also very simple, consisting of repetitive practice.

The key was that Lucien could actively customize the Daily Loan projects, choosing which magic skill he wanted.

This was unlike Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly Loans, which tried to align with his needs but might not always fully satisfy them.

After completing the basic preparations quickly, Professor Flitwick began explaining the specific techniques and precautions for attaching spells.

At this stage, Lucien's speed gradually slowed.

Along the way, he asked the system whether there were any relevant Weekly or Monthly Loans available for this knowledge.

But after checking, he found they were either too broad and general, or only brushed lightly over the subject.

"Well, the system isn't omnipotent. Relying on self-study and practice to acquire knowledge still cannot be neglected."

Lucien once again resolved to visit the library today to borrow advanced books.

As this pair of teacher and student worked together, Lucien eventually completed the simple attached spells.

On the demonstration teacup, which already had the Undetectable Extension Charm applied, he successfully added a Warming Charm, a Heating Charm, and a Waterproofing Charm.

What had once been an ordinary teacup now had the ability to automatically adjust the tea's temperature, keeping it pleasantly warm yet perfectly drinkable, while also insulating the inside from the outside so it wouldn't feel hot to the touch.

For Lucien, in the era before his transmigration, such functions could easily have been achieved with various technological products.

But here, the special effects of this teacup were created entirely by his own hand.

It was like someone in that earlier era starting from nothing and singlehandedly crafting a high-tech marvel.

This was an experience only magic could bring—a true manifestation of knowledge as power.

A small teacup was just the beginning.

He glanced at the Loan System panel and smirked. After all, who's gonna stop me?
