Chapter 287: Chapter 42 Tower MasterWho could it be?
Danni gazed at the dazzling Star Sea, her thoughts unknowingly flying far away.
Vili, dragging his exhausted body, leaned against an ancient tree and smiled as he asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing." Coming back to her senses, Danni stretched out a strand of Natureās force, and after a moment her expression turned serious as she said in a heavy tone, "What kind of power does the spear that injured you belong to? Why canāt your wound heal?!"
Vili gave a wry smile and said, "Itās the power of the star domains, from the ancient church."
"Disaster?" Danniās eyebrows rose slightly, "They dare to come back?"
"Itās not a matter of daring," Vili continued, "Theyāve already returned, and have been hiding in the Star Sea. Many planes have their outposts."
"If you know about them, why not eradicate them." Compared to the Hell sects, Danni hated the Disaster Church even more.
"If you kill this group of people, there will be another, do you want to be entangled with them forever?" Vili counter-asked, "At least now their every move is under Konstantinās surveillance, they canāt stir up any major trouble."
"But this time, youāve been injured too," Danni said sharply, "And the Empire is now in imminent peril. The magic power attached to the spear must be the power of death, right? Theyāve already intervened in our ambush, and you still dare say these people are under the Empireās surveillance?"
"Dare." Vili said indifferently, "Although the power that injured me came from the Disaster Church, it wasnāt their strongmen who were sent out. You must know, the Star Sea is far removed from the major star domains, the Heavenly Gods are unwilling to come, and if the rank of professionals sent is too high, theyād have no chance to cross over. These Disaster cultists under the Star Sea canāt muster many demigod-level forces."
While speaking, Vili took out the long spear he had pulled from his chest and said, "I recognize this spear; itās a weapon from when the Disaster Church invaded the Star Sea and the Apocalypse Knights died in battle. He was killed by the Beast Raceās Silverback Ape God, and the weapon was lost, likely just found by someone, which doesnāt mean that the Disaster Church was involved in this ambush against us."
Danni looked at the ancient and dim long spear, "Without the infusion of the power of death, this ancient Divine Artifact is just a piece of scrap metal. Without the participation of the Disaster Church, who could have activiated this weapon?"
"Thatās exactly what Iām worried about." Vili sighed, and did not continue.
And a trace of fear showed in Danniās eyes, "You mean, someone is stealing the divine power of the Disaster Church?"
"Correct." Vili nodded, "For the Disaster Church to cross over to the Star Sea so smoothly, there must be a connection with this hidden force. Iām afraid that the Disaster Church is just within the calculations of this group of people, merely being used as cannon fodder."
"According to what youāre saying," Absolute Shadow jumped down from a tree, and almost stumbled due to a clumsy landing.
"You old fogey, could you move slower? Why are you climbing trees for no reason?" Danni glanced at him disapprovingly.
"Heh heh," Absolute Shadow said, "Wasnāt it because I wanted to see if you two being alone could spark something unusual, maybe make some news."
"Forget it," Vili laughed, "Danni, the Tower Master, has someone in her heart. And I? Iām not in her league."
"Is it the recently famous Baron Yitian?" Absolute Shadow stroked his chin, looking thoughtful.
"Hmph!" Danni didnāt deny it but turned away, not looking at either of them. Both were titans of their own right, yet in the end, they lacked dignity with age.
"Yes, indeed," Vili nodded hurriedly, "Have you not heard?"
"Of course, Iāve heard. I didnāt believe it at first, but now Iām fairly convinced." As he spoke, Absolute Shadow asked Danni, "That ladās strength is feeble, how could he catch your eye?"
"Is now the time to discuss these matters?" Danni frowned, "The Sea Race is invading, the Empire is on the brink; we, as Guardians of the Empire, can only watch helplessly as it declines. And you still have the mind to discuss my affairs?"
"What can we do?" Absolute Shadow clapped his hands helplessly, "I, too, want to go back and help. But look at the state of the three of us, all mutually crippled. What do you expect me to do?"
Absolute Shadow spoke the truth. The battle had greatly diminished their strengths. Vili was wounded by the death divine power and would likely take decades to recover. Absolute Shadowās arm had only just been reattached not long ago; to fully heal would take months at least. Moreover, Danni and Absolute Shadowās essences were both damaged; even if they returned to the Empire now, they would only be able to contribute the strength of the Third Transition Middle Stage and could not influence the outcome of the battle.
Red Beard, the God Su Yu, they all disappeared without a trace, including two other capable Tower Masters, one was helping them escape, and as for the last, the Heavenly Tower Master... better left unmentioned.
"Guardian Danni," said the Master of the Grey Tower, Boke, upon returning from the outside world, "instead of worrying about the Empire, youād better pay more attention to your little boyfriend."
"What happened?" Danniās brows furrowed tightly as she quickly stepped forward to inquire.
"According to reliable sources, Baron Yitian went missing in the Ambra Plane while repelling the elvesā offensive within the Ancient Ruins."
"Missing?" Danni clenched the word between her teeth, "Just because he is missing doesnāt mean he is dead. I believe in him."
"What about the Empire?" Vili quickly changed the subject.
"Not too bad. While the sea tribe was attacking the Empire, they also provoked the snow tribe, giving the Empire a respite. Unfortunately, the northern border has fallen, the Shang Tai of the Xiahe family died for their country, and the northern court has been dealt a fatal blow; it is now completely under Konstantinās control. In addition to this, Konstantin has also recalled the legions that were guarding the Pole Demon Abyss. I believe that within three years, the Star Sea will face a horrific beast tide."
"What did you say?" Danni was alarmed, "He let the creatures from the Pole Demon Abyss out?!"
"Thatās right," Boke nodded, "The Pole Demon Abyss is of paramount importance and can affect everything. Although the return of the two great legions has indeed helped the Empire block the offensive of the sea tribe, in a few years, the human race will fall into decline once again."
"Foolish!" Vili sighed, "By then, who will be able to stand against Taiāe?"
"Letās not talk about Taiāe right now. I think Konstantin did the right thing. If the Empire is going to perish, how can we care about much else?" Despair shrugged, "If the Sacred Empire is gone, should we still be guarding the Pole Demon Abyss waiting for disaster to strike?"
"Idiot," Danni glared and spat.
"Hey, hey! Make it clear. Who are you calling an idiot?" Absolute Shadow had never been insulted before, and Danniās scorn made him feel an unprecedented humiliation. He rolled up his sleeves and stepped forward to question her, but unfortunately, he was whipped back by Danniās vine whip, "No, I was actually seeking to argue with you. If weāre talking, why resort to violence?"
Boke shook his head with a wry smile and continued, "Additionally, a few days ago, Sect Hierarch Ze Xiu personally visited Konstantin in Jinrui City."
"Oh?" Danni was stunned, wondering, what trouble was the Disaster Church stirring up at this time?
Absolute Shadow was also very curious, "Come on, letās hear it."
"Iām not aware of the specifics, but in the end, both sides reached an agreement. The Disaster Church will help the Empire fortify the border and jointly fend off the sea tribe invasion, whereas the Empire will also call off their manhunt for them."
"Incredible, truly incredible. It seems these kids have grown up," Absolute Shadow smacked his lips, "Theyāre thinking of helping the Empire, not causing trouble."
"Thatās right," Boke nodded again, "This meeting between Ze Xiu and Konstantin has greatly altered the publicās perception of the Disaster Church, for better or worse, no one can tell."
"Theyāre just using each other," Vili said, "But itās not necessarily a bad thing. Ze Xiu can summon Hell Demons, one of whom can match a thousand soldiers. Iāve also seen Lando; his strength is only slightly below that of a Tower Master. With their help, I believe Konstantin will have a much easier time ahead."
"Finally, during this battle of the sea tribeās invasion, a mysterious strong character from our human race appeared, whose power far surpassed that of an ordinary Tower Master," Boke said, his face breaking into a slight smile.
"Is it related to you?" Absolute Shadow noticed his excitement.
"Based on the speculation, it should be a predecessor Tower Master of my Grey Tower."
Everyone understood; among the seven towers, only the Grey Tower was unique. The other six towers passed their legacy through a continuous lineage, where the new Tower Master only ascends after the death of the predecessor. Only the Grey Tower relies on oneās own cultivation, so each Master of the Grey Tower has not been very strong, making it the weakest among the seven towers.
"Itās not your teacher?" Vili pressed.
Boke shook his head, "My master passed away fifteen years ago, and it was by my own hands that I buried him. This personās Heavenly God tome is a book, and Iāve looked through all the texts ā in the history of the Grey Tower, there have been only two Tower Masters whose Heavenly God relic was a book: the first Tower Master, Jiāan, and the seventh, Master Pablo."
"Thatās too far-fetched, isnāt it?" Absolute Shadow was puzzled, "Even if itās the seventh Tower Master, do you know what that means?"
"I do. It means this esteemed Master has lived for thousands of years."
While they were discussing, a grand battle of the ages was breaking out again on the Continent of Godās Grace.
