Chapter 91: Chapter 89: The Wasteland PlaneCompared to the scene of Lai Li and Caesarâs quarrel, Lu Hongâs situation was much more perilous.
Inside a private room on the second floor of the tavern, Lu Hong had been watching the two women stare at each other for a long time and couldnât stand it any longer, wanting to break the strange and awkward stalemate.
"Um, shall we go out for a walk?"
"Tukulu! Speak! What is your relationship with this woman?!" Nono, having just eaten her fill, was full of vigor, and her outburst nearly made Lu Hongâs heart leap out of his chest.
"Tukulu, I donât object to you finding a woman for fun, but at least not in my town," said Lai Li, her words more euphemistic than Nonoâs blunt query, yet they were laced with venom, implying Nono was a mistress.
Nono was quick to catch on to Lai Liâs overt provocation and retorted angrily, "Youâre the mistress, your whole family are mistresses! Tukulu and I are a couple who have gone through life and death together."
Gone through life and death together? Lu Hong was also stunned; when had he and Nono faced any life-threatening situations? Did that incident in hell count?
"Oh dear, little girl, donât speak so definitely. Look at Tukuluâs face; doesnât it seem like he doesnât even know about this?" Lai Liâs observational skills were sharp, and she immediately noticed Lu Hongâs bewildered expression.
"You!" Nono turned to look at Lu Hong, who indeed had a foolish expression on his face.
Seeing Lu Hongâs face, Nono could not contain her anger and shouted, "Have you forgotten? At Sanky Slope, during the banditsâ ambush, it was you who shielded me with your body from the fatal blow."
"Sanky Slope?" Now Lu Hong did remember, that was when he had just crossed over into this world. No wonder Nono had taken a liking to him early on, captivated by his heroic rescue.
"Remember now?" Seeing Lu Hongâs sudden realization, Nono looked at Lai Li triumphantly and laughed, "I knew him way before someone else did."
"Hehe~" Lai Liâs mature and sensual laughter indicated that Nonoâs words didnât hurt her at all.
"What does it matter who was first? Matters of the heart are not about who gets there sooner."
"You,,,,,," Nono was at a loss for words, unable to come up with a rebuttal.
"Enough, enough, both of you just stop," Lu Hong said, his head aching from the noise. He really didnât want to deal with this mess, and his hand came down on the table with a thump that made it shake three times.
"Hmph!" Seeing Lu Hong get angry, both women also stopped their bickering, thankfully Nono didnât know about the âthingâ between Lai Li and Lu Hong, otherwise, this matter wouldnât end so easily.
"So, now that youâve finished your so-called important business, isnât it time to fulfill the promise between us?" Lai Li didnât linger on that issue and asked Lu Hong straight away.
Lu Hong thought for a moment and replied, "Letâs wait a bit longer. The empire is in turmoil right now; once the situation stabilizes, I will go with you."
"Why wait for the empire to stabilize? Itâs just a trip with me to my home to retrieve an item." Lai Li narrowed her eyes, "Or are you saying you have no intention of keeping your promise?"
"Donât be ridiculous, when I, Tukulu, give my word, itâs as good as done; I never go back on what I say."
Nono, listening on the side, was completely confused and quickly asked Lu Hong, "What have you promised this woman? I heard youâll go to her house? Youâve never even been to my house!"
"Uh,,,,,," Lu Hong thought to himself that this woman really held grudges, still remembering the time he had refused to go home with her.
"Itâs nothing, just accompanying her to her hometown to fetch something important." Lu Hong gestured with his hands, "Itâs about this big."
"This big?" Nono imitated Lu Hongâs gesture, "As big as a head? What is it?"
"Origin Blood," Lai Li stated openly, seeing Lu Hong was trying to change the subject, yet she wasnât shy about it.
"Origin Blood?" Nono was taken aback and turned to Lai Li in surprise, "You come from the Wasteland Plane?"
"Young lady, you sure know a lot." Lai Li nodded in acknowledgment, gaining some respect for the girlâs breadth of knowledge.
"The Wasteland Plane is a domain yet to be unified, Tukulu, you cannot go, itâs too dangerous!" Nono said decisively, "I absolutely forbid it!"
"Dangerous or not, it doesnât matter, he has already promised me a visit," Lai Li retorted coldly, not wanting her plan to be disrupted by Nono.
"No way!" Nono slammed the table and stood up, "The Wasteland Plane is a mix of Human, Beastman, and Demon Races; Tukulu must not go."
"Alright, Iâve already made a promise, I canât be untrustworthy, can I?" Lu Hong patted Nonoâs shoulder, signaling her to calm down first.
As Nono had said, the Wasteland Plane was like a huge battlefield, a very special place. Originally under the control of the Beastman Empire, it produced a miraculous fluid that could activate and enhance Bloodline Power, which was immensely helpful to the Beastman Empire.
However, the peace didnât last long. After stealing information, the Holy Divine Empire also learned about this wondrous plane and naturally coveted it. But to avoid provoking a national war with the Beastman Empire by dispatching troops, the current emperor decided to release this bounty to the lower-level planeâs families, letting them enter to snatch the Blood Source, which the empire would then trade and sell.
As a large number of families from other planes flooded in, the Wilderness Plane began a long-lasting chaos war that lasted for a thousand years. Not only that, this chaos war also attracted a mysterious race, who called themselves the Demons; they subsisted on drinking blood and were exceptionally strong.
The family Lois belonged to was one of the earliest to migrate into the Wilderness Plane. They were powerful and commanded a place on the plains.
Although Lois did not mention it, Lu Hong knew that this trip to get things was definitely going to be troublesome because what Lois wanted to retrieve was the oldest Blood Source preserved by her family.
"Turukuru." Nono pleaded, "I really donât want to see you in danger. Do you know? When I learned that the Hellâs Rift was closed, my heart shattered. I thought I would never see you again." While saying this, tears streamed down Nonoâs face.
Lu Hong couldnât bear to see a girl cry like this; his heart was melting. He wrapped her in his arms and comforted her softly, "All right, all right, itâs okay, itâs okay."
"Oh, am I being a bit redundant here?" Lois said with a laugh, "I better leave first, to save the awkwardness." Saying this, Lois gave Lu Hong a look and then left the private room.
In the dead of night, Lu Hong knocked on the door of Loisâs residence.
"Come in, the door isnât locked," came Loisâs voice from inside, tinged with an indescribable charm.
As soon as Lu Hong opened the door, he saw Lois, wearing a thin dress and slightly tipsy, pouncing toward him.
"So, did you manage to soothe your little lover?" Lois whispered in Lu Hongâs ear.
"Can we sit down and talk properly?" Lu Hong gave a wry smile; who could withstand this kind of temptation?
"Hehe~" Lois gently pushed Lu Hong away, turned, and collapsed onto the soft bed, beckoning to Lu Hong, "Come, letâs have a good talk."
"No, no, Iâm fine standing right here," Lu Hong refused Loisâs invitation.
"Why are you still as boring as last time? Are you planning to stand at the door all night again?" Lois humphed in dissatisfaction, though her seductive demeanor receded somewhat.
"Letâs talk about something serious."
"What else do you want to know?" Lois got up from the bed, poured a glass of red wine, took a seat in her armchair, and crossed her legs as she looked at Lu Hong.
"Iâm just a bit curious why you chose me to accompany you back to the Wilderness. Logically speaking, members of your Scar Mercenary Group are all stronger than me, any one of them would be more powerful than me."
"Donât you know about the Law of the Wilderness Plane?" Lois looked surprised; she had thought Lu Hong knew everything.
Lu Hong shrugged to indicate he knew nothing.
"If you know nothing, how could you agree so readily?!"
"If I didnât agree, you wouldnât have let me go, right?" Lu Hong offered the standard answer.
"Hehe!" Lois scoffed coldly, "So you were just humoring me!"
"No, I do intend to accompany you. But tell me about the situation of the Wilderness Plane first, so I can get prepared."
Sipping her red wine, Lois began slowly, "The Wilderness Plane is a very peculiar plane. Under the suppression of the Power of Laws, the highest level you can reach is Second Transition Level 4. That is to say, the strongest person there is at the level of Second Transition Level 4, but this suppression is not constant. If your bloodline is weak, then after entering the Wilderness, youâll be suppressed even more by the Law, and itâs possible that a Third Transition strong fighter would be only at the Early Stage of Second Transition once inside the Wilderness."
So thatâs how it is, Lu Hong thought. No wonder she chose me to accompany her. The stronger your Bloodline Power, the less it is limited in the Wilderness Plane. Although the maximum limit there is Second Transition Level 4, members of the Scar Mercenary Group might not even reach Second Transition due to weakness of their bloodline, making Lu Hong surprisingly advantageous.
Moreover, Lois had fought Lu Hong after his Berserk transformation and knew that the power he displayed was not inferior to an ordinary fighter at the Early Stage of Second Transition, which is why she sought him out.
"Just remember, once we enter the Wilderness, do everything I say, follow my instructions. Otherwise, wandering the Wilderness could be very tragic. Also, donât be surprised to see Beastmen, Demons, and Humans living together in towns. Donât let anyone realize youâre an outsider. During the thousands of years of infighting on the Wilderness, although there is no trend towards peaceful unification, the xenophobia has reached an unprecedented consensus."
"Thereâs such a thing?" Lu Hong was hearing about the exclusiveness of a plane for the first time. Most planes were open to interaction with the outside world, and moreover, the strength of the Continent of Godâs Grace was enough to prevent these planes from daring to revolt.
"Yes, itâs because of its unique Law. Most people from the Continent of Godâs Grace would be greatly suppressed upon arriving here and could not take advantage in the Wilderness," Lois continued, "Anyway, stick with me on this trip. Iâll find a way to keep you safe."
"Okay, itâs settled then."
"When will you come with me? Within three months at the latest, you must accompany me on a trip, or Iâll lose my chance."
Seeing Lois inquire about the timing again, Lu Hong hesitated for a moment and said, "Iâll be quick about it. Once Iâve taken care of things with Nono, Iâll set off with you."
Lois, teasingly mournful, responded, "It seems Iâm still second to that little lover of yours."
