Chapter 37
Chapter 37 of "The Mafia's Queen" opens revealing the plot: Whereâs the respect?Glaring at the man, at his thin build, ropey muscles, and gleaming black... Discover what happens!
Whereâs the respect?Glaring at the man, at his thin build, ropey muscles, and gleaming black hair, the mental picture ofhis head mounted on my wall causes my lips to twitch. Heâd look good there. Less damage. Iâm sure Hayes would approve.
âWhat exactly did you think would happen?â His bloodshot eyes narrow. âThat youâd be able to steal from me? Take my holdings? Destroy my investments?â
Heâs silent, which is completely unlike Junior. He loves to run his mouth. And me? Iâm his favorite target.
Shrugging, I check the magazine. âPity. I guess thereâs no use for you.â
âWait.â His teeth grind.
Looking around, I gesture with my gun. âUnlike you, I actually have a business to run, not fucking my days away with my limp dick in some rotten cunt. What?â
âIâd answer,â Killian murmurs, black eyes watching Juniorâs pulse, readying to attack. âShe doesnât like to wait.â He slams him into the wall, head banging against the cold cement walls.
âHowâd you get in?â
âDoor was open,â he hisses, hand holding his temple.
Right. Because someone would leave my storehouseâmy product, myfuckingmoneyâopen to attack? Not with Junior sniffing around, looking for a way to upset the power balance.
Leveling the gun at his head, I give him a bored look.
âI highly doubt that.â
âNo?â He scoffs. âThen shoot me. But thatâs all youâre getting.â
I cock the gun, and Killian chuckles, coming to my side.
âSo ready to die?â His lips twist. âSex trafficking getting to be too much for you?â
âI knew he never had the stomach for this life,â I add, another way to dig at Juniorâs manhood. âShouldâve left the family to a true leader. Howâs your sister?â
Shifting, he shoots me a hard look. I hate it when he doesâhe reminds me of his brother, Hayes. They donât resemble theotherâHayes took after his mother, and Junior looks like Bruno Seniorâbut every so often, their genetics match up.
âHowâd you know itâd be unlocked?â the Reaper asks, crossing his arms. Heâs entertaining his bullshit, but Iâm fighting the urge to shoot him square between the eyes.
âA little fucking birdie told me,â he mutters. âA birdie with a grudge.â
Killian seems to consider him, but my vision flashes red. I donât see Junior before meâI see Hayes, as a child, on his knees, while this prick got to live the life of luxury.
I see all the women he keeps locked inside his house, forcing their legs open for willing customers. Iâm a heartless bitchâbut I have standards. Taking out Juniorâs territory is more than a power struggleâIâm going to free all those women from that house of horrors.
The gun touches his forehead before I realize what Iâm doing. Anger propels meâno. Fucking rage. I donât stop. I canât. Iwonât. His blood could paint these walls a pretty sheen, and I think the world deserves to see that beauty.
Killianâs rough palm grasps mine, twisting the bones together. Biting my lip, I barely stop from screaming, glaring over my shoulder at him.
âDonât,â he commands softly. Heâs not looking at Junior, but at me. âNot here. Not now.â
âAre youseriousright now?â I huff, trying to slip my hand from his. It doesnât work, and he grinds my fingers together, the tips turning a horrible shade of purple. âYouâre defending him?â
Defending our enemy. Who keeps women locked in their rooms, never to see the sun again.
Heâof all the people in this worldâunderstands what that does to me.
And I understandhishistory âthe imprisonments, being forced, unable to stop it. I know how it burns him up, haunts hisdreams at night when he couldnât save his mother. Iâve seen itâfelt it, when heâd awaken grunting in his sleep for a deceased woman and the man who made her property.
âIâm not defending him,â he says, lowering the gun. My muscles protest, but the Reaper is stronger than me. âIâm protecting you.â
Snorting, I wrestle with him, but I canât move. âThatâs rich.â
