Farming in a Parallel World and Becoming a God - Chapter 140 - Demon Portal

Chapter 140 - Demon Portal

Words : 2177 Author : Eternal Night Knight

Chapter 140 of "Farming in a Parallel World and Becoming a God" opens with suspenseful action: The Jackalwere Demon Priest was trying to open a Demon Portal to the domain of... Keep going!

The Jackalwere Demon Priest was trying to open a Demon Portal to the domain of the Demon Lord they worshiped. No wonder the Yaling were proactive in giving up the defensive advantage of the curtain and took the initiative to strike.

If they allowed him to succeed, even if it was opening only a temporary Demon Portal, the result would still be catastrophic.

Gaven and his companions were not alone, as an Elite Yaling team of five had silently made their way around to the side of the Jackalwere camp.

For Yaling with the Fairy Step, the Jackalwere’s thinly defended camp was completely undefended.

The Yaling Commander had also realized where the crux of the problem lay, and, after tying up most of the Jackalwere with Yaling Spirit Soldiers, they went for a beheading action.

But the problem was, the Jackalwere Demon Priest wasn’t a fool, how could they leave themselves undefended?

Waiting for them was not one ambush but two.

One consisted of a small squad of Jackalwere Archers holding crudely made Longbows that were thick and large, and their arrows were more than double the size of regular arrows, almost like smaller Crossbow Arrows, looking very menacing.

The little one on Gaven’s shoulder was wide-eyed and almost salivating, muttering endlessly in Gaven’s mind that this was what a true Archer should look like. If Gaven had thousands of such Archers, he was assured of wreaking havoc in the Rocklands.

To this, Gaven scoffed. This was Felen, not the backwater Great Britain. As long as you had money, autonomous Ballista Carts and Golems could be obtained. Only if he was bored out of his mind would he specially form English Longbow Archers.

The other, Gaven couldn’t see, because they were hidden within the tents, likely not many, and probably the Elite among the Jackalwere.

The Jackalwere camp was very open and around the Sacrificial Array for hundreds of meters, obstacles had been deliberately cleared, so once the Yaling Elite team entered, they couldn’t hide anymore and were directly exposed to the vision of the Jackalwere Archers.

These Jackalwere Archers, who had long received a Kill Order, did not need commands upon seeing the Yaling Spirit Soldiers; they drew and shot on sight.

A terrible trembling sounded in the air, the trembling of thick bowstrings.

The thick and long arrows, like miniature spears, pierced the sky with astonishing range. Even at a flat trajectory of one hundred and fifty to sixty meters, they still possessed forceful impact.

However, their accuracy left much to be desired, especially since these five Yaling Elites were top-notch, specially trained. While charging wildly, they didn’t run in straight lines but in serpentine patterns. And with their Fairy Step utilized to its fullest, their figures flickered in and out of visibility.

Arrows aimed at them typically fell short.

The rest was purely a matter of luck.

But whether it was the Yaling Long Knife in the hands of the Yaling Warriors or the Yaling armor that looked like works of art, none were for show.

The few that got through were either split by the Yaling Long Knife or deflected by an invisible shield without causing them any harm.

Awooo!

With a long howl,

Two tents were lifted at the same time, and seven Jackalwere Cavalry charged out.

The mounts of these Jackalwere were not horses but massive hyenas. These hyenas were not only enormous in size but had higher, protruding backbones covered in thick bone plates, and their joints bristled with bone spurs.

Four huge fangs protruded from their lips, dripping with saliva, and no one doubted their lethal biting power.

Their eyes were no longer dark but gleamed with a sinister crimson, and the breath they exhaled from their nostrils and mouths seemed to carry a sulfuric scent.

This type of massive hyena had a special name, the Fangs of Slaughter.

They were hyenas that had been sacrificed to Yenogu, the King of Jackalwere and Demon Lord, and infused with demonic power.

The Cavalry of the Slaughter Fang swung their three-headed flails, howling as they charged towards the five Yaling Warriors.

"Now," Gaven suddenly released the release ring and fell from a height of over a hundred meters.

After freeing both hands, he pulled the Keen Edge Longspear from behind him and, with a slight adjustment to his posture, threw it forcefully.

With Dragon’s Tooth Gloves equipped, Gaven’s strength had reached 17 points. He didn’t quite match the Half-Ogre’s inherent racial strength, but among Humans, he was undoubtedly very strong.

With the addition of his falling speed, the Throwing Spear flew with shocking velocity. When the Jackalwere Demon Priest noticed something amiss in the air, the Keen Edge Longspear had already pierced through his chest and out his buttocks, nailing his body firmly to the ground.

Given such a severe blow, the Demon Priest, who was focusing on maintaining the nearly complete Demon Portal, caused it to ripple and show signs of shrinking and closing.

Awooo!

From the other side of the Demon Portal, a non-human roar was heard. A pair of pitch-black hands reached through from the other side, grabbing the portal’s bloody vortex as if it was a solid substance, forcibly prying it apart.

Ah!

The Jackalwere Demon Priest let out a wretched scream. The fresh blood flowing from the wounds caused by the Keen Edge Longspear didn’t trickle down the spear but floated towards the Demon Portal instead, merging into it.

Clearly, the terrifying entity that was tearing apart the Demon Portal was not just using its own strength but was forcibly sacrificing the life force of the Jackalwere Demon Priest.

Strong Acid Breath!

The attack from the Young Red Copper Dragon, who was diving down, had arrived as well.

A two-meter wide, more than ten-meter long line of strong acid covered the area.

The Jackalwere Demon Priest was the starting point of the attack, and the Demon Portal marked the end.

One was impaled on the ground by the Keen Edge Longspear, unable to move.

The other was an inanimate object, utterly incapable of moving.

They all took a solid drenching from the Strong Acid Breath.

The sight of flesh being drenched in strong acid must be one of the most horrifying scenes in the world. The Jackalwere Demon Priest’s flesh was melting away from the outside in, skin, acid, and blood merging into a disgusting, slimy mess that dripped downwards.

The Jackalwere Demon Priest’s life force was stubborn enough to survive several heavy blows in a row. It did not die completely but kept howling, trying to pull its body off the Keen Edge Longspear. The more fiercely it struggled, the quicker its melting flesh fell off, the more intense the pain became, and the less strength it could muster.

The other target of the Strong Acid Breath didn’t fare much better either.

Whether the acid had passed through to the other side of the Demon Portal or not was unclear, but that dark, massive hand was definitely drenched by it. It hissed and emitted black smoke as the black iron gauntlet corroded away, revealing the white bones underneath and indicating that its owner was an undead, a high-ranking one at that.

The Demon Portal itself was in the most critical condition, its stability severely compromised, and it began to flicker unstably, as if it could close at any moment.

The high-ranking undead, unwilling to give up, roared angrily and exerted another burst of strength.

The Jackalwere Demon Priest let out its final wail— it did not die from Gaven’s Throwing Spear, nor from the young dragon’s breath, but was tortured to death by the very ally it had summoned.

The problem was, the Demon Portal demanded not just the creature’s life force but also its soul. Mixed with blood, the soul was forcefully extracted from the body and merged into the Demon Portal.

With the addition of the Jackalwere Demon Priest’s soul, the Demon Portal stabilized once more. Several excited howls could be heard as one after another, pale, emaciated bodies with muscular contours, all thoroughly ugly, leaped out from within.

By the time the seventh figure emerged, even the owner of the large hand could no longer maintain the stalemate and had to let go. The Demon Portal fluctuated for a moment, then disappeared completely.

Without the Jackalwere Demon Priest maintaining it on the Material Plane, not even a Demon Lord from the other side could sustain a Demon Portal for long.

It sounded complex, but in reality, it barely took a few seconds—Gaven was still in the middle of free fall.

Seeing that the owner of the massive hands did not completely tear open the Demon Portal to come through himself, Gaven heaved a great sigh of relief.

Even with the barrier of the portal between them, he could feel the terrifying aura emanating from the other side. The figure was likely to be a Death Knight, a fearsome entity with a Professional Level above fifteen.

Gaven had already decided that should the other come through, he wouldn’t hesitate to signal the Young Red Copper Dragon to turn and flee immediately. An entity of this level wasn’t something he could touch or confront. Even the young dragon, with its eight Life Dice, could be easily slain with a single strike if caught off guard.

Fortunately, this temporary Demon Portal couldn’t handle such a formidable transport. The ones coming through were merely a group of Ghouls, well, a stronger version called Abyssal Ghouls.

That significantly reduced the threat.

The most problematic aspect of Ghouls is the paralyzing effect carried in their claw attacks.

But elves are immune to this—the elves aren’t immune to paralysis, but they are immune to the paralysis from ghouls.

This is related to the primal ghoul, the Ghoul King Doreisan, who was an elf and had once been protected by the elf Main God Corellon. Bound by the primal oath, the paralyzing claw attacks born from him could not pose any threat to elves, including half-elves with a diluted lineage like Gaven, let alone the Yaling, who are also a branch of elves.

After unleashing the strong acid breath, the young dragon flew low over the head of the free falling Gaven. Thɪs chapter is updatᴇd by ɴo(v)elFɪre.ɴet

Gaven took advantage of the situation to push off from the loop, transferring most of his falling speed to Aivensa, and then let go to fall again.

This time, the height was only about seven or eight meters, and he was already grasping the Magic Longsword with both hands.

His feet knocked together and the Jump Spell on his Magic Boots activated. The powerful magic recoil slowed his descent.

After that, he heavily kicked down on the hunched back of a jackalwere archer. Driven by formidable inertia, the sharp Magic Longsword effortlessly cleaved the archer nearly in half, killing him instantly.

The jackalwere archer had already noticed the threat from above, but everything happened too quickly.

Compared to Gaven, they were more concerned about the threat from the young dragon; all arrows were aimed at her, firing two rounds in succession, to little effect. Without her burden, Aivensa was too fast. Aside from spewing dragon breath, she would lower her body, but otherwise, she would try to gain as much height as possible.

Unless forced into a corner, giant dragons do not engage in close-quarters combat with people. Rampaging with dragon breath is their standard tactic.

A giant dragon can use at least five to six dragon breaths a day, regardless of age, only varying in strength.

Once their dragon breath is depleted, that’s usually when they strategically retreat.

When Gaven landed, he was not the focus of concentrated fire.

Because those seven Purgatory Ghouls had already finished gnawing on the corpse of the jackalwere demon priest, they ferociously charged forward.

No longer controlled by their summoner, these ghouls did not differentiate between jackalwere archers. Whoever was closest would be attacked first.

Naturally, Gaven was unharmed. He didn’t approach them deliberately and picked up the longbow of a jackalwere archer to shoot an arrow at the nearest one.

The one to launch the first attack was the Psychic Bullet.

As the thick arrow approached, that jackalwere archer was still in a daze, barely conscious. The arrow penetrated right through the eye socket, blowing off the back of the skull and leaving half an arrow protruding.

It must be said, with sufficient force behind it, the lethality of such a crude object is quite astounding.

The Spirit Crystal Servant Artolia, gesticulating like a general commanding thousands of troops, boldly waved her little hand and said, "That’s the spirit, this is the type of bow and arrow a man should use."

The English Longbow had become part of her very being, something she couldn’t shake off even if she tried.
