Chapter 293: Chapter 217 Discussing the Newcomer"Weâre discussing Old Yaoâs elite class," Professor Yi casually replied, balancing a teacup in one hand and stroking his gaunt chin with the other, intently observing the angle at which the tea leaves swirled in his cup. "Weâre studying those new youngsters in the class."
"Studying?" Professor Emma was intrigued by Professor Yiâs choice of words. "Studying what?" SŃarch* The NovŃlĆire.n(e)t website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
"Who they are, where they came from, what they want to do!" Professor Yi voiced his thoughts melodiously like he was singing a song.
Professor Emma yawned expansively.
"To be precise, weâre compiling a record of them. For instance, the Jiang familyâs girl, the Zhang familyâs brat, and the Li Familyâs little spiritual witch who loves fainting ..." Old Yao puffed on his pipe, blowing one smoke ring after another. "It hasnât been a month since the term began, and these youngsters are falling down in the classroom one after another. This isnât a good sign."
Professor Emmaâs eyelids drooped.
Obviously, she was reminded of the young public expense student who had fainted in her class the day before.
"The physique of these children these days..." She murmured, shaking her head slightly, "is too weak!"
"Each generation gets worse!" Old Yao heaved a sigh in agreement.
"For instance, that smelly brat from the Zhang familyâs main house. Apart from a red face, he probably doesnât have even half of his brotherâs abilities. Right now, aside from their familyâs inherited temper, we havenât found anything noteworthy about him."
"And that kid from the House of Yu Ming, he lacks the omniscient demeanor of his father. He struts around all day with a big black book in his hand, smug about the title of âDoctorâ among the students... I heard heâs trying to chase Old Qianâs prized disciple; well, heâs lucky he hasnât received a red order from Dean Dracula!"
"The whelp from Karenâs family is alright," Professor Li disagreed. "Despite his young age, he seems to grasp the true essence of the noble Under the Moon."
"A creature whose teeth arenât even sharp yet--he only has noble blood, what future could he have!" Old Yao sneered at this.
"If you donât want him, give him to me!" Professor Emma retorted. "Our institution welcomes him with open arms!"
Old Yao immediately turned away, pretending he didnât hear that.
The other professors chuckled.
"There are a few other interesting youngsters," Old Yao continued the topic without missing a beat. "Like that fat one, Xin? Banna? Schmidt Bayer. Heâs a countryman of Thomas, a German. I remember his file mentioned he is a Blue Giant...Jiuyou has seen few freshmen with this special blood lineage in recent years."
"Thatâs because Alpha Academy is the right choice for bloodline-oriented freshmen," Professor Emma pointed out sharply.
"There are also many outstanding young people among the freshmen of other schools," Professor Yi finally stopped swirling his teacup.
He held the bottom of the cup, drank all the tea, and even savored the residual tea leaves, slowly chewing and swallowing them.
"For example, at Alpha Academy, the alchemy prodigy Lin Guo. Heâs only twelve this year. I remember that old geezer Tesla quietly told me that he had ever only seen such brilliant talent in one person before."
"Duzem?" The name uttered by Professor Emma made the surrounding atmosphere tense up noticeably.
"In addition to the girl from the OâBrien family, the boy from the Taylor family, the illegitimate child from the Black family... this yearâs admission quality of Alpha is not inferior to Jiuyou," Professor Yi continued, not appearing to be affected by the tense atmosphere around him.
"Thatâs it?" Professor Emma seemed a bit unsatisfied.
"If we consider the other two academies," Professor Yi seemed hesitant. "Starry Sky Academy admitted a freshman called Blue Bird this year. She is a real Sword Cultivator, an extremely pure path... they even admitted the forbidden child of the Wolf Clan and Blood Race into the academy against the ban of the Under the Moon Council."
"Since when the first university starts to care about what those sun-dodging fellows think?" Professor Emma lifted her chin in distaste.
"Atlas has always had unusual admission criteria. As far as I know, the major religious groups are very protective of their newbies who have obtained the grace of the Gods... itâs hard to distinguish the high and low without using some tricks."
"I think Atlasâ admissions philosophy has deviated somewhat," Old Yao swung his pipe vigorously in midair. "The academy originally selected students based on âfaith,â but what about now? It has completely become the private land of the Gods."
"Just because there are no Atlas representatives in this conference room, it doesnât mean you can speak recklessly here," Professor Emma objected. "Among these four schools, which one has not deviated? Does Jiuyou lack students from clans? Does Alpha lack exams?"
Old Yao coughed severely, gave an awkward smile, and didnât blush.
"Anything else to add?" Professor Emma looked around as if hoping someone might have something more to say.
Professor Yi finally figured out the crux of the matter and shook his head, not offering any more remarks. Instead, he pulled a deck of tarot cards from his pocket and began to shuffle them cheerfully between his fingers.
"If you want to talk, then just talk. No oneâs stopping you," Old Yao seized an opportunity to retaliate, his pipe making loud noises as he knocked it on the conference table. "Youâve been holding it in all night...if you donât say it now, you might explode!"
"Hmph!" Professor Emma shot him a sidelong glance, touched something in her Kun bag, and then turned over her left hand.
The attention of the observing professors was immediately drawn to the center of her palm.
There was a dull little bead.
The light from the overhead dragon-shaped chandelier gracefully scattered a milky white luminance, yet that grey bead appeared to devour all the light that fell upon it. It was nondescript and easily overlooked.
It looked like a pebble.
"Is this a Magic Rune Bead?" Professor Yiâs eyebrow twitched; he moved his gaze away from his cards and glanced curiously at it. "Itâs a work of one of the new students, right? The structure seems compact and the runes sturdy. Theyâre somewhat talented, but there are seven or eight new students with such talent in every batch. Is it even worth your admiration?"
"Ignorant fortune-teller!" Professor Emma sneered, tilted her left hand and the dull bead slid along her palmâs texture to the tip of her index finger.
Then, she flicked her index finger and the little bead suddenly exploded, turning into a three-dimensional rune.
An invisible wave also spread out.
Old Yao frowned, but did not try to stop it.
The ripple instantly swept through the entire conference room, alarming the professors huddled together and attracting their attention.
"Sorry about that, I couldnât control the force properly!" Professor Emma announced triumphantly to the other professors. "The runes drawn by the kids are a bit fragile, I didnât dare to use much force."
"A centuries-old witch like you canât control the force of a tiny Rune?" Old Yao was almost choked by his own smoke.
Professor Yi remained silent.
He finally put down his cards and looked at the activated Rune with a serious expression.
