Chapter 603: Chapter 272: ConnectorThe brief two-minute break was fleeting.
Zheng Qing opened his eyes at the very moment the last second ticked away on the stopwatch, shifting from his resting position.
He turned to the others, his brow furrowing slightly. "Didnât I tell you all to rest? On the battlefield, even two to three minutes of rest is a precious resource. We canât afford to waste it".
Inside the defensive shield, Xiao Xiao was engrossed in his notes. Zhang Ji Xin and Xin Fat Man just stared absently at the flying wooden spears outside, not blinking an eye.
Almost nobody had followed Zheng Qingâs orders.
"Who can rest in this kind of situation!" Xin Fat Man stared at the crumbling golden defensive shield, his words tinged with fear.
Zheng Qing let out a sigh of disappointment.
After all, they werenât experienced veterans. Leading them felt somewhat restraining.
At that thought, he suddenly realized something and shook his head forcefully in astonishment.
For a few moments, he wasnât sure who he was - the shadow struggling to survive in a two-dimensional world, or a carefree student on a university campus.
This feeling was similar to the after-effects of a transformation potion, but the illusion was clearer and more unsettling.
"Whatâs next?" Xiao Xiao interrupted Zheng Qingâs contemplation.
The captain of the Absolution Hunting team raised his head, his eyes clear once more. "âBarrel ambushâ â you all know this spell, right?"
"Barrel ambush?" Xin Fat Man scratched his head and gave a snicker. "Definitely a good spell against plant-like demons... But I only know the first part."
"I know two parts!" Zhang Ji Xin straightened up, giving Xin Fat Man a smug look.
"I know all parts." Xiao Xiaoâs emotionless response along with an adjustment of his glasses only amplified the embarrassment for the two underperforming students.
"Didnât you mention that âBarrel ambushâ featured prominently in Wizard High School instruction and testing? How is it that Fat Man has only learned the first part, and âSeason Letterâ only the first two?" Zheng Qing asked, surprised.
"If itâs only for attending university, knowing the first two parts is enough," explained Xiao Xiao. "For Fat Man, I guess itâs because of his unique bloodline, hence the special treatment."
In all of the wizarding world, the Blue Giant was very rare. Considering the enrollment policies of the first university, this wasnât hard to understand.
"Iâm blue-blooded and proud! You red-blooded peons can only kneel and kowtow before me!" Xin Fat Man thumped his belly and gave a boisterous laugh.
"What a fair and equal place," muttered Zheng Qing as he shook his head. Ignoring Fat Manâs antics, he took out three law books from his grey bag and handed them out.
Feeling the bulkiness of the book, Xin Fat Man shook the book at the spine. "Where did you buy this cheap law book? Itâs too soft, not suitable for guys at all!"
"These are the standard-issue Law books provided by the school to all students. They might not have a large capacity, but theyâre organized," replied Zheng Qing. "I just copied âBarrel ambushâ into it, it should take you less than a minute to review."
"Initially, I planned to use a stacking spell, so each of us could cast the spell once and combine our effects. Even if we couldnât destroy the Vine Monster completely, it would surely retreat."
"But now..."
"Use a Chain Spell," suggested Xiao Xiao, interrupting Zheng Qing. "Having Fat Man fully utilize the first part, âSeason Letterâ the second, and me the third... you should be able to control the final outcome with a chaining spell."
Zheng Qing paused after hearing this, before nodding. "That could work. However, it will require your full coordination. I didnât prepare a Chain Spell, but I do have a âtransition talisman,â which should achieve the same effect..."
Before he finished speaking, a clear voice came from the outside: "Whirlwind Slash â three-nine style!"
"Boom!"
Accompanied by dozens of dazzling sword lights, their views filled with broken vine tendrils and damaged figs tree aeroots.
The Vine Monster hiding in the forest seemed to be scared by the scattering of the golden aura and once again hid itself.
"Blue Bird?!" Hunters from the Absolution Hunting Team stood up, surprised and delighted.
"We need to end this quickly!" The figure rushing in from afar warned anxiously without stopping: "The big guy from the north is approaching! Finish this fight ASAP!"
Blue Bird rarely spoke up, but everyone wasnât surprised by the news. Instead, they were terrified.
Xiao Xiao took a deep breath and pulled out his previous divination results, "Two miles to the north, detecting demonic aura with an intensity of 7. Itâs an individual entity."
"Definitely a big guy," said Zheng Qing, snapping his fingers. The rattling Five Elements Bagua Formation was dispelled.
"Swordsman, do you know âBarrel ambushâ?" Distracted from inquiring about the other monsterâs situation, he pulled out another Law book instead and waved it at Blue Bird.
Blue Bird hesitated before shaking his head assertively.
The Diaoâer in his hood sprang out and started waving its claws at Zheng Qing.
"Pure Sword Cultivator, huh." Zheng Qing sighed a little frustratedly.
In every mainstream society, there are some who donât belong.
For example, in society at large, heterosexual relationships are the norm. But there have always been individuals who indulge in same-sex relationships, living outside of mainstream culture.
In the wizarding world, Sword Cultivators were a similar existence. In an era where Law books were dominant, they stubbornly adhered to their so-called "Way of the Sword". Their Law Book was the sword in their hand. They didnât pursue the path of the Great Wizard, but rather the path of the Sword Saint.
So, even if Blue Bird knew the âBarrel ambushâ spell, he certainly wouldnât abandon his sword to use a Traditional Wizardâs Law book.
"A Sword Cultivator traveling to Buji Island just to attend the Wizard University. What kind of spirit is that? What kind of passion?" Watching the Vine Monster retreat, the Fat Man couldnât help but blabber again.
"If a Blue Giant like you can come to school, then why canât others come? Theyâre here for one reason or another," interrupted Zhang Ji Xin. "Take a look at your âBarrel ambushâ, youâre the worst one among us."
That shut the Fat Man right up.
Unhappy, he glanced at Blue Birdâs shiny sword and begrudgingly opened his Law book, mumbling as he tried to remember the key points of the first part of the spell.
Meanwhile, Zheng Qing was flipping through his grey bag, pulling out his red Phoenix and Paulownia wooden box to find the âtransition talisman.â This talisman wasnât often used, it mostly came into play for combination magic.
He remembered he had drawn a few of them in his spare time.
