Chapter 343: Chapter 12 The Witch in PyjamasAfter class on Thursday afternoon, Zheng Qing did not go to the library.
He went to a coffee shop on Pedestrian Street and ordered a cup of black coffee, delightfully watching two sturdy candy wrestlers in his dessert plate wrestling alongside the walnut crisps, Allah sticks, and chocolate beans.
He bought the Candy Fighters from the Candy Shop opposite the milk tea store before he came to the coffee shop.
At the beginning of the term, he had seen a thrilling yet brief duel between two cavalry troops in the window display of that candy shop, which left a deep impression on him.
Luckily, he was free today so he took a detour into the shop and purchased two candy wrestlers.
One was made of cane sugar, and the other of malt sugar.
As a first-time customer, the thoughtful candy shop owner gifted him a fructose dragonfly as a referee for the wrestling match.
"Best of three rounds! The loser gets eaten!" The dragonfly elf waved its wand, flying back and forth in a figure-eight above the table while yelling, "Youâll be chewed by your audience, ground to a pulp, and swallowed!"
Listening to the refereeâs warnings, Zheng Qing frowned, worried that scaring them might affect the wrestlersâ performance.
As it turned out, he was overthinking.
Perhaps due to these âprofessional wrestlersâ noble work ethic or perhaps because their minds were too simple to understand the refereeâs complicated grammar.
The two contestants on the plate were not affected by the dragonfly refereeâs words. They stubbornly butted heads, entwined legs, tripped, and performed suplexes, wrestled so hard that sugar crumbs scattered everywhere while the china plate clanged and clattered.
Zheng Qing watched with interest, occasionally using a small spoon to scrape up the sugar crumbs from the plate and sucked them up.
He had two law books stacked beside him.
One white one, which was his own law book; and another old one he had received on Monday from the Philosophy of Magic class taught by Professor Yao.
In both books, an entire Binding Spell had been copied - which was homework from Old Yaoâs Philosophy of Magic class, as well as the reason why Zheng Qing was sitting in the coffee shop.
According to the professorâs requirements, he also needed another classmateâs -preferably a girlâ law book, along with hers, to copy and use the Binding Spell, write a report to describe the different feelings when using the same spell with different law books, and record the subtle differences in the process.
Originally, he considered asking Elena to complete the assignment with him.
However, after the previous magic class, the whereabouts of the Gypsy witch had become somewhat unpredictable again, often only showing up when the bell rang for class and leaving halfway through.
The professors, for some reason, did not express dissatisfaction with Elenaâs behavior.
Helpless, Zheng Qing tried to invite Jiang Yu.
Luckily, Headmaster Jiang readily agreed to his request, but with one condition - he needed to find an appropriate partner for Li Meng.
The condition was incredibly simple.
Xin Fat Man and Zhang Ji Xin were both eager for this opportunity.
"If youâre not planning on eating them, they can wrestle in front of you all night," A beautiful voice rang next to his ear, interrupting Zheng Qingâs engrossing viewing.
He looked up, only to find Jiang Yu had somehow already arrived in the shop, carrying her handbag, bending over with her head very close, looking at the candy wrestlers on the table.
Very close indeed.
When Zheng Qing turned around, he nearly bumped into her cheek.
He could even see the tiny fuzz on her face, smell the soothing aroma, and feel the tickle of her floating hair brushing his cheek.
"Huh?" The young scholarship studentâs cheeks visibly flushed, stammering, "What... What did you mean... by all night?"
Jiang Yu seemed to realize her own impropriety too. Her long eyelashes quivered as her nostrils flapped rapidly. She suddenly stood up straight and stutteringly replied, "I... I meant, are you planning... planning to watch candy men wrestle all night?"
Zheng Qingâs mind finally caught up with the development of the situation.
He shook his head vigorously, as if he could shake off the infatuation in his heart and dispel the heat from his face.
"Just a bit curious," he admitted honestly, "You know, Iâve never seen such interesting things before... I was just watching it for a little while before you came."
Jiang Yu seemed to have overcome the confusion from a few seconds ago and returned to her usual composure.
"Then letâs make good use of our time." She flicked her long hair aside and pulled out a few thick books from her bag. She placed them on the table, raised her right hand and lifted her index finger.
A Serving Elf dressed like a maid fell gracefully onto her fingertip, paying a dignified greeting.
"One black rose, less ice." Jiang Yu tilted her head slightly, weighed a gold bean in her left hand, and stuffed it into the pocket behind the Serving Elfâs skirt: "Any kind of dessert is fine, just not too sweet."
"May Merlin bless you, miss." The small elf cheerfully fluttered its wings and graciously thanked her.
Zheng Qing smacked his lips, watching the shiny gold bean fall into the small elfâs pocket, he couldnât help but sigh.
Then his eyes fell on Jiang Yuâs clothes, his brow couldnât help but rise higher and higher.
She was wearing short pants and a t-shirt, with a red and black plaid cotton coat draped over her.
Her snowy long legs and graceful figure were looming under the large coat, making one unable to help but take more glances.
"Are you wearing pajamas?" Zheng Qing looked at Jiang Da Headmasterâs clothes with a perplexed expression, and asked with certainty, "You are wearing a pajamas on the outside, arenât you?"
"Yeah." Jiang Yu casually did up her hair, exposing a clean section of her neck.
"Thatâs too... casual." The young scholarship student wracked his brains to find an appropriate word.
"What do you know? This is this yearâs fashionable outfit...and itâs really comfortable to wear." Jiang Yuâs mouth slightly twitched upward, she pulled out her law book, passed it over to Zheng Qing and urged, "Letâs start."
"It always seems like you just got out of bed." Zheng Qing muttered softly.
"What?" Jiang Yu sat opposite him, pulling out notebooks and talismans and other test materials, she didnât hear what the male wizard said.
"Ahem, I mean, donât you have classes in the afternoon?" Zheng Qing cleared his throat and immediately changed his question: "I remember you should be wearing gowns during class hours."
"My elective course in the afternoon is Classical Philosophy of Magic, the teacher took a leave today, so afternoon classes were cancelled." Jiang Yu pouted unhappily, "In fact, Iâve been in the library all afternoon."
"What did you do in the library? Homework?"
"Looking up files." Jiang Yuâs expression suddenly dimmed, "You know, that kitten... Book Mountain Library has the most detailed case search and safekeeping room in the wizardâs world, perhaps I can find some traces of the murderer from there."
"Youâre still investigating?" Zheng Qing couldnât help but exclaim, "I thought this case was closed... Didnât the School Workers Committee already announce their investigation results... Saying it was because of the Silent Tide?"
"I donât believe it!" Jiang Yu held her head high, her eyes full of defiance.
Zheng Qing opened his mouth, but didnât continue to dissuade her.
It wasnât because he gave up after seeing Jiang Yuâs insistence.
Instead, he suddenly thought of the dream he had last night in Old Yaoâs office, being a âwitnessâ, he remembered the bone-chilling cold he felt and the white figure he saw.
So he wasnât so sure about the School Workers Committeeâs report anymore.
"If you need any help, feel free to ask." He finally nodded, expressing his support for the female wizardâs persistence, "Compared to those in gray robes, I trust you more."
Jiang Yu pursed her lips, her eyelashes fell, and she responded softly with a hum.
