Chapter 104: Arrival in Glam Gas Land
Chapter 104 of "Hunter x Hunter: Unleashed" begins with suspenseful moments: A day later, Aurenâs airship, carrying everyone on board, is already heading straight towards Glam... Donât miss it!
A day later, Aurenâs airship, carrying everyone on board, is already heading straight towards Glam Gas Land. Thanks to its immense speed, barely slowed even with the added weight of Aurenâs massive custom gym, the trip will only take a couple of days. Their destination lies on the northern edge of the Yorbian continent.
Both Neffi and Vanessa are visibly excited by the news, clinging to Aurenâs arms like children.
âI canât wait to see the special shows! Weâre renting a few rooms in a proper hotel, right?â Vanessa asks, her eyes practically sparkling.
âI swear, Vanessa, youâre the oldest one here, but you act like the youngest,â Auren teases her, more amused than actually annoyed by her excitement.
âHey, Iâm only twenty-six, let me enjoy my youth!â she shoots back, puffing her cheeks. âAnd besides, Konrad is only two years younger than me. That barely counts!â
âIâm actually twenty-seven, so Iâm the oldest,â Goreinu says, looking a little surprised himself as he says it out loud.
âYou sure donât look it,â Vanessa comments casually, making Goreinuâs face darken instantly with depression.
âIsnât that a good thing?â Eren asks. âYouâll look young for much longer that way.â
Goreinu sighs. âItâs probably because of my training. I started learning Nen when I was nine, and my master drilled into me the idea of always training. Iâve spent most of my life focusing on Tenâitâs become a habit, and I keep it active almost constantly. My master told me more than once that I wasnât very talented, but because of that, I put everything I had into perfecting the basics.â
âThen why wait so long before taking the Hunter Exam?â Auren asks, a little curious now.
âI... actually overestimated the difficulty,â Goreinu admits, rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment. âI thought becoming a Hunter would be harder. In the end, I realized I didnât even need the license at first. Even now, Iâm barely a Hunter at all, since, unlike you, Auren, I donât really have a goal. The one goal I had, to earn a lot of money, is already more than fulfilled with your generous pay. I guess I might as well accompany you guys as long as you will have me, itâs actually quite interesting.â
Thatâs good. Perfect... this is going exactly according to plan.
âIn any case,â Auren says, âIâve already explained things to Jolt, his family, your siblings Eren, and Killi. Weâll be staying at the Royal Glam Hotel. If you donât know, itâs the most luxurious one in the city. Thanks to the recent conflicts in the area, it didnât cost me too much, which surprised me. Tourism is on the decline, it seems. Iâve booked us in for three weeksâthatâs our limit. After that, we need to return to Swardani City once more.â
âWhy is it called Royal? Glam Gas Land isnât a kingdom; it belongs to the United States of Saherta, doesnât it?â Eren asks. âThatâs what I used to hear on the streets while pickpocketing in Yorknewâs financial districts.â
âThe story isnât very exciting,â Auren says, âbut Glam Gas Land used to be barren, abandoned land. Not quite a desert, but the soil there is covered in red earth, making it unsuitable for crops. Eventually, a group of migrantsâthe Glam Caravanâbought the rights to the land and settled there. By sheer luck, they discovered huge deposits of natural gas, along with oil and other valuable resources.â
âI see,â Eren says, nodding slowly.
âNowadays, you could call the descendants of the Glam Caravan something close to royalty. They became known as the Glam Clan once they settled permanently. The head of the clan is treated like a king, the de facto ruler of the region, and his influence extends far beyond just Glam Gas Land. He holds tremendous power in Yorknew and even overseas, as gas is a requirement for most industries.â
âDoes it seem that way?â Konrad asks, sounding and looking a little smug.
âAm I wrong?â Auren replies, slightly puzzled by his tone.
âHehe, theyâre actually under a lot of pressure,â Konrad explains. âRecently, they had no choice but to let national corporations in. They may like to think of themselves as a small zone, even as rulers of a separate country, but thatâs far from the truth. In the end, theyâre just running a city, and the head of the clan is nothing more than the mayor of that city.
âTheyâre still part of the United States. The clan leader may have gained influence, especially across the Yorbian sphere, but it came with a price. With so many resources being discovered, corporations rushed in. Sure, they pay heavy fees to both the clan and the government, but they managed to secure second-grade resource sites, just a little away from the city itself.â
âYouâre pretty smart after all, Brother,â Vanessa says, ignoring the details of his explanation and going straight for an insult. âItâs just a shame that all your knowledge doesnât help you find a wife, isnât it?â
â... What about you then?! Hag!â Konrad snaps back, his smugness turning to anger.hat youâve been here before?â Auren asks.
âOnly for a couple of smuggling runs... Itâs been a while, but this place hasnât changed at all,â Jolt admits.
Both twins move closer to their father, Jean grinning as she says, âYou know, maybe you werenât completely useless for once, Dad. Getting us into all this debt might have been worth it! This is the life Iâve always wanted. The Royal Glam Hotel? Amazing. This is so exciting.â
She then steps over to Auren, placing her hands against his back. âPlease keep employing my useless fatherâeven if itâs just to clean the ship all day. This is like a dream!â
Auren turns slightly to face her and notices her short skirt constantly whipping upward in the strong wind.
âYou might want to invest in a pair of pants...â he comments. Jean quickly turns away, embarrassed.
Her quieter twin, Joanne, doesnât fare much better. Her long hair, usually draped in front of her face, now whips violently in the wind, making her look almost like some kind of vengeful spirit.
âAnd you... maybe buy a hair clip. Or ten,â Auren says, watching Joanneâs cheeks turn red.
These girls... Jolt really doesnât have it easy. Still, Jean wasnât entirely wrong. He might have messed up horribly by dragging his family into all this debt, but in the end, things turned out well enough for them.
