Mitsuri
Mitsuri stood atop the speeding train, her hair flowing in the rushing wind, her sharp eyes fixed on the figure standing at the front. It was a boyâno, a demon, she realized instantly. His presence sent a shiver down her spine, not because of fear, but because of the overwhelming sense of wrongness he exuded. His pale face was serene, his lips curling into an eerie smile as he murmured to himself.
"To die while dreaming," the boy muttered, his words barely audible over the roar of the train. "How lucky are they? No matter how strong a Demon Slayer is, the heart and spirit are the driving force of a human. Destroy the spiritual core, and even the strongest will crumble..."
Mitsuriâs grip on her blade tightened. There was no doubt in her mindâthis was the demon responsible for lulling her and Alex into that strange, oppressive sleep. But now she was awake, her heart pounding with determination. She couldnât let him continue his twisted games.
The demon, Enmu, turned slightly, his unnervingly calm eyes meeting hers. He tilted his head as if amused, as though her presence on the trainâs roof was some unexpected entertainment.
"Ah, you woke up," Enmu said, his voice lilting with mock disappointment. "What a shame. I was hoping youâd remain in blissful slumber forever."
"Not a chance!" Mitsuri declared, her voice firm. "Your tricks wonât work on me again!"
Enmuâs smile widened. "Oh? Shall we test that theory?"
Before Mitsuri could respond, she felt a strange sensation washing over herâa soft pull, like the lull of a gentle wave. She recognized it instantly: the demon was trying to drag her back into the dream world.
"Not happening!" Mitsuri shouted, focusing all her energy on resisting the pull. She had been caught off guard the first time, but now she was prepared. Her breathing steadied, and she concentrated on the rhythm of her heartbeat, grounding herself in reality.
To her surprise, the sensation vanished as quickly as it had come. Enmu frowned, his composure faltering for the first time. "Impossible," he murmured. "How did you resist my spell?"
Mitsuri didnât give him a chance to think. With a burst of speed, she launched herself toward him, her Nichirin blade flashing in the moonlight. Enmu barely dodged the strike, leaping back with a look of genuine surprise.
"Youâre persistent," Enmu said, his voice no longer amused. He extended a hand, and a wave of dark energy surged toward her. Mitsuri evaded it with a graceful spin, landing lightly on her feet.
Again, she felt the pull of his sleep spell, stronger this time, more insistent. But just like before, she resisted it, her willpower overpowering the demonâs magic.
Enmuâs frustration was palpable now. His eyes narrowed as he studied her, searching for a weakness. "This shouldnât be possible," he hissed. "No human can resist my enchantments twice, let alone repeatedly."
He raised his hand once more, the air shimmering faintly with his demonic power. Mitsuri felt another wave of drowsiness attempt to overtake her, stronger this time. It clawed at her consciousness, urging her to succumb.
But Mitsuri refused.
"Love Breathing, First Form: Shivers of First Love!" she cried, her sword flashing in the moonlight as she executed her technique. A flurry of slashes cut through the air, dispersing the hypnotic aura emanating from Enmu.
The boyâs eyes widened slightly, and for the first time, a flicker of frustration crossed his face. "Interesting," he said softly, almost to himself. "Youâre resistant... How peculiar."
Mitsuri didnât respond, her emerald eyes locked onto her target. She could feel her heartbeat steadying, her breathing rhythmic as she maintained her stance. Whatever trick heâs using, I canât let it affect me. I have to focus.
Enmu tried again, his efforts now more deliberate. He gestured with both hands, the faint shimmer in the air growing into a swirling mist that threatened to envelop Mitsuri.
This time, she didnât wait for the wave to hit her.
"Love Breathing, Fifth Form: Swaying Love, Wildclaw!" Mitsuri charged forward, her blade slicing through the mist with a combination of precision and ferocity. The energy dissipated as she closed the distance between herself and Enmu, forcing him to leap back to avoid her strike.
Landing gracefully, Mitsuri stood tall, her hair billowing in the wind. "You wonât trap me again," she declared, her voice firm.
Enmuâs frustration gave way to curiosity. He tilted his head, studying her with a contemplative expression. Then, slowly, a sly smile crept across his face.
"Fascinating," he mused, his tone calm but tinged with amusement. "You shouldnât be able to resist me so easily. And yet... you are. I wonder..."
His gaze shifted briefly to the train below them, as though considering something. Mitsuri noticed the flicker in his eyes and adjusted her stance, preparing for his next move.
"Youâre not alone, are you?" Enmu continued, his voice low and almost hypnotic. "Thereâs someone with you... someone unusual. Ah, yes. That companion of yours."
Mitsuri didnât flinch, but her mind raced. Does he mean Alex?
Enmuâs smile widened as though he had read her thoughts. "Yes, the boy currently helping those children,"
He continues,
"Yes, thatâs it. heâs the one, isnât he? The one Lady Muzanette has been searching for. The one who threatens her control..."
