Chapter 1 - Reborn as a Larva!

In the sunlight-covered land, there was a pond of stagnant water.

This pond of stagnant water stunk to high heaven, its existence unknown for how many years.

The surface of the water was littered with chunks of garbage, including some decaying rat carcasses, rotting and fermenting atop the water.

It was unbearable to the nose!

“This water stinks!” A passerby walked past the pond, smelled the odor from it, couldn’t help but curse out loud, and then spat into the pond!

“You spitting into it even if it stinks, no sense of hygiene!”

The passerby didn’t notice, and certainly couldn’t have noticed, on the surface of the stagnant water, a tiny larva with large eyes was floating and glaring at him in irritation.

Jia Yan was carefully controlling his present body, avoiding the spit the person spat out.

Given his current body, maybe just this gob of spit could smash him to death.

He was wailing tragically in his mind: “When others reincarnate, they return to the past and see through the world’s vanity, or cross to another world to become a powerful figure; as for me, great, why have I been reincarnated into a tiny larva!”

That’s right!

Jia Yan was now a tiny insect–a larva–floating on the water’s surface!

Perhaps some people don’t know what a ‘larva’ is, but everyone on Earth would certainly recognize their adult form!

Because, they are none other than the nightmarish, blood-sucking insects we all dread–mosquitoes!

The world in front of me has completely changed, I can’t see clearly even a few tens of meters away, it’s making me dizzy!”

Jia Yan, controlling his body as it floated on the water, was wobbling slightly, drunk-like.

Larvae have a pair of compound eyes, totally different from human eyes.

Moreover, compound eyes are composed of many smaller eyes.

Jia Yan, a human soul, simply couldn’t adapt to these new eyes.

“And then there’s heat sensing, infrared sensing, these senses are too disgusting!

And I can’t even turn them off, they’re driving me to mental breakdown.”

Jia Yan tried to control his body, wobbled slightly and sprang twice, but ended up plunging into the pond.

“Heavens!

I can’t swim.” The larva flailed in the water, causing the microorganisms around him to be thrown into disarray.

“Huh, swimming doesn’t seem that hard!” After flailing a couple of times, Jia Yan realized his body wasn’t that hard to control, and even being in the water didn’t cause him much discomfort.

He stopped flailing, stretching and contracting his body in the water, and started learning how to swim.

Swimming is natural to every larva.

In no time, Jia Yan, this larva with a human soul, learned how to swim.

Jia Yan started swimming around the hostile environment of the pond.

He was looking around in confusion.

As a human, he had just died not too long ago.

He didn’t expect that when he opened his eyes again, it would be in this world inside a pond.

Just now, he had exerted a great deal of effort to break open the egg and swim from underwater to the water’s surface.

As a larva, he was light enough for the water’s surface tension to support him afloat.

He stood for a while, but now he sank down again because he couldn’t maintain his balance.

All in all, from his reincarnation as a larva to now, barely ten minutes had passed.

As a human, Jia Yan couldn’t accept his fate of being reincarnated as an insect, and this insect was a larva.

If he continued to grow, he’d become a mosquito that everybody despises.

But no matter how unwilling he was, this had become a fact…

Prior to his reincarnation, Jia Yan was a university student studying computer science, but his roommates often said he should have studied Zoology instead.

Yes, Jia Yan’s hobby was studying all kinds of animals.

Although he wasn’t an expert, as an amateur enthusiast, he had an abundance of related knowledge.

While his roommates were playing online games, he was staring at an insect’s foot on his computer screen, his eyes filled with fascination.

While his roommates were finding girlfriends and going out overnight, he was alone in his dorm, looking at fantasy images of ancient dinosaurs, his face full of interest.

As such an ‘animal nerd,’ his first venture into normal male behavior was getting in a fight with a privileged kid for a girl he had a crush on!

And this fight was the reason for Jia Yan’s death and subsequent reincarnation…

He was brutally beaten to death by the minions working for a privileged young master, his life ended in a desolate, unfinished building.

“Yu Yuan!” At the thought of the young master’s name, Jia Yan’s current larval body couldn’t help but quiver.

It was a display of intense anger!

“Even if I’m reincarnated as an insect, reincarnated as a minuscule mosquito, I will find a way to take my revenge on you!

You despicable creature, as long as I’m alive, I’ll never let you go!” Jia Yan made a resolution in his heart.

But how…

With his current body, how can he possibly exact his revenge?

Larvae, growing up to become mosquitoes?

Great!

Mosquitoes can suck blood, and their tiny proboscis could be a formidable weapon of attack!

Many people do not know that mosquitoes, of all creatures on Earth, cause more human deaths each year from virus transmission than any other creature.

Even more than the total deaths caused by the second to the tenth deadliest creatures combined!

Jia Yan’s eyes started to light up.

It seems I am lucky to have been reborn as a mosquito.

If I were some other insect, there wouldn’t be much I could do.

So it is settled.

Once I grow from a larva into a mosquito, I will find a way to infect myself with a deadly virus, then transmit the virus to Yu Yuan!

Jia Yan laughed viciously inside, making this decision.

And the virus, the more painful it is, the better.

Using this against a murderer isn’t considered overkill, is it?

But there’s a problem!

In the mosquito world, only female mosquitoes can suck blood and transmit viruses.

Female mosquitoes suck blood because they need abundant nutrition for reproduction.

They suck blood from other creatures to supplement the nutrients needed for offspring production.

Male mosquitoes don’t need to produce offspring.

Thus, their proboscis hasn’t evolved to be as strong as that of female mosquitoes.

Male mosquitoes are generally known to suck nectar and fruit juice to satiate their hunger.

Jia Yan just now, while being on the water surface, had observed his reflection and compared it with a few organs.

He realized that he’s been reborn clearly as a male larvae.

A male larva, of course, grows into a male mosquito, and a male mosquito doesn’t have the ability to suck blood!

If he cannot suck blood, how can he exact his revenge?!

“Male mosquitoes don’t have the ability to suck blood, but that’s just generally speaking.

Now that I’ve been reborn, a mosquito with human intelligence, and soul, should be able to change something, right?”

Jia Yan won’t merely accept becoming an average male mosquito, especially when their lifespan is merely around twenty short days.

For revenge, he must change something!

“First of all, food.

My first step is to survive!”

Jia Yan looked at the pond in front of him.

It was very dirty, but because of its filth, it was rich in various planktons and insect larvae.

“Larvae feed on algae and bacteria.

Is that bacteria?”

Jia Yan swam towards an object that looked like a black cluster of bacteria.

They were too small for the naked human eye to see.

After being reborn as a larva, the petite creature could see these tiny objects.

Jia Yan looked around at the other larvae that were born around the same time as him.

They all devoured the floating things around them, some of which were similar to these black objects.

If they can eat, then I should be able to as well…

Jia Yan, suppressing his disgust, brought his ‘mouth’ close to this object.

The brushes around his mouth started to move rapidly.

The water flow they created pulled the bacteria towards his body.

Jia Yan then forcefully sucked in, swallowing the bacteria!

I can eat!
