The sun had barely begun to rise, casting a faint orange glow over the thick canopy of the Amazon rainforest. The damp air was filled with the distant cries of birds and the occasional rustling of unseen creatures. Solomon adjusted the rifle slung over his shoulder, his injured leg throbbing with each step. Jamie walked beside him, her small hands gripping his arm, helping him stay steady. She had regained some strength after last night’s rest, but her face still carried the exhaustion of the ordeals she had been through.

Ahead of them, Carlos walked with his wrists tightly bound with thick forest vines, his posture slouched as if the weight of his situation had finally sunk in. Solomon had made it clear—Carlos was only alive because he knew the way to Esteban’s village, the warlord-controlled settlement that was also Carlos’s birthplace. The journey was expected to take three days on foot, but Carlos had offered a shortcut—a dangerous swamp that could cut the time down to a single day.

Solomon, despite his injuries, didn’t hesitate to take the risk. Time was not on their side.

“You sure about this path?” Solomon’s voice was gruff, showing no patience for games.

Carlos let out a bitter chuckle. “It’s the fastest way, viejo. But I wouldn’t call it safe. That swamp isn’t just filled with mud—it has snakes, jaguars, and worse… hunters who don’t ask questions before shooting.”

Jamie stiffened at the mention of hunters. Solomon, however, merely tightened his grip on Carlos’s bindings. “Then I suggest you pray they don’t shoot you first.”

With that, the group pressed on, weaving through the dense jungle. Solomon’s sharp eyes remained focused on Carlos’s movements, while Jamie kept scanning the surroundings nervously.

The SEAL Forward Camp

Meanwhile, at a hidden U.S. Navy SEAL forward camp, David Lancaster sat across from an old friend—Commander Jack Turner, the man leading this covert operation. The two men had once fought side by side, and their bond was forged through years of grueling missions.

Jack, a rugged man in his late forties, greeted David with a warm bear hug, but David didn’t have time for nostalgia. His mind was solely on Jamie.

Jack leaned back in his chair, studying David’s tired face. “Hell, Lancaster, you look like you’ve been through a damn warzone.”

“I have,” David replied, his tone sharp. “And I need answers. You said you pulled me from death’s door—what happened?”

Jack sighed, pouring two cups of coffee. “You were barely breathing when we found you. Some local scouts spotted a firefight near a cartel checkpoint, and when my team arrived, they found you half-dead in a ditch. If we hadn’t gotten to you in time…”

David clenched his fists. “I don’t care about that. What I want to know is if this ‘rescue’ was part of a bigger plan. Are you after Jamie?”

Jack exhaled, setting his cup down. “Look, Lancaster, I know what she means to you. But the truth is, your daughter isn’t just a scientist anymore. She’s a person of interest.”

David’s eyes darkened. “Interest to who?”

Jack met his gaze. “The United States government.”

A heavy silence filled the room.

David knew this was bigger than he had feared. But no matter what, he would not let Jamie be used as a pawn.

Ryan’s Warning

Elsewhere, in a safe house deep within the jungle, Ryan sat in front of Beth and Sophia, his expression serious. He had just received some critical intel.

“I’ve got news,” he began, his voice firm. “David’s alive. The U.S. Navy SEALs found him and brought him to their forward camp.”

Beth let out a breath of relief, her eyes filled with hope. Sophia, however, narrowed her gaze. “That’s good news, but what’s the catch?”

Ryan hesitated before speaking. “The good news is that Commander Jack Turner—the one running the SEALs’ operations—has a soft spot for David. They worked together for years, and from what I’ve heard, Jack still respects him. If anyone can protect David, it’s him.”

Beth nodded. “Then he’s safe?”

Ryan’s face darkened. “Not exactly. Victoria found out too.”

Both women froze.

Ryan continued, his tone grim. “Her sources got her the intel, and she’s already moving toward the SEAL camp. She’s not going there for a reunion—she wants to capture David and squeeze out every bit of information about Jamie’s whereabouts.”

Beth clenched her fists. “We have to do something.”

After days of careful travel using forged documents and bribes, Beth, Sophia, and Ryan finally reached the Amazon rainforest. They had entered through a remote border crossing, avoiding major checkpoints to stay off the radar of both government forces and Victoria’s network. Now, deep within the jungle, they were hiding in a small safe house—a concealed wooden structure used by smugglers and rebels alike. The dense foliage provided natural cover, but they knew they couldn’t stay hidden for long. With David’s location revealed and Victoria on the move, time was running out.

Ryan nodded. “We will. But first, we need to figure out how to get to himbeforeVictoria does.”

The Swamp’s Peril

Back in the jungle, the group finally reached the swamp. It stretched before them like a decaying, green wasteland, its surface dotted with patches of moss-covered water and deep mud pits. Carlos turned back with a smug grin.

“This is it, amigos. You still wanna take the shortcut?”

Solomon grunted. “Move.”

They stepped onto the treacherous path, their boots sinking into the damp earth. The stench of rotting vegetation filled the air. Solomon, relying on sheer willpower to ignore the pain in his leg, kept his rifle ready. Jamie’s hands trembled, but she forced herself to stay close to Solomon, unwilling to be a burden.

Then, the first danger struck.

A sharp hiss cut through the air.

From a low-hanging tree branch, a black anaconda uncoiled itself, its massive body moving like liquid shadow. It had been lying in wait, camouflaged among the vines. Now, its predatory eyes locked onto Jamie.

Carlos took a cautious step back. “That’s not good…”

Jamie’s breath hitched. The anaconda lunged.

In an instant, Solomon fired a single shot, hitting the snake in the head. The massive body convulsed, thrashing wildly before slumping down into the mud.

Carlos whistled. “Damn, viejo. You don’t miss.”

Solomon ignored him, turning to Jamie. “You okay?”

She nodded, though her hands were shaking. “Y-Yeah.”

He gave her a firm look. “Stay close.”

They pressed forward, the swamp growing darker as the trees thickened. The sound of distant gunfire echoed through the jungle. Solomon’s instincts flared. They weren’t alone.

And soon, they would face an even greater danger.
