Chapter 48 of "Elven Invasion" begins with suspenseful moments: Safe Haven or Temporary Refuge? The Black Hawk thundered across the night sky, its rotor blades... Don’t miss it!

Safe Haven or Temporary Refuge?

The Black Hawk thundered across the night sky, its rotor blades slicing through the air as it carried David, Jamie, Ryan, Solomon, and the SEAL team toward safety. The jungle below, once a battleground, receded into the distance, replaced by the open sea where the U.S. Navy’s forward operating base awaited.

Jamie sat beside her father, exhaustion written all over her face. She was safe—for now. But even as David held her close, he knew this wasn’t over. Victoria Langley wasn’t the kind of woman to let her prey slip away so easily.

As the helicopter neared the Navy’s hidden outpost, an aircraft carrier and several destroyers sat anchored in the waters below, their deck crews preparing for their arrival. The USS Liberty, a cutting-edge carrier outfitted with the latest defense systems, was their destination. The Navy had been monitoring Victoria’s activities for months, but the recent skirmishes had confirmed their worst fears—Victoria wasn’t just a rogue operative. She was a well-connected warlord with resources that rivaled nation-states.

The chopper touched down on the carrier’s deck. Medical teams rushed forward, taking Solomon for treatment while debriefing officers ushered David, Ryan, and Jamie into the ship’s strategic command room.

Admiral Jonathan Briggs, a seasoned commander with sharp blue eyes and a hardened demeanor, stood waiting for them. He wasted no time.

“You all did good getting out of there alive,” he said, eyeing Jamie. “But I’m afraid your troubles are just beginning.”

Jamie frowned. “What do you mean?”

Briggs exchanged glances with his intelligence officer, who tapped a few keys on a nearby console. The screen behind them flickered to life, displaying classified documents, schematics, and intercepted communications.

Then, Jamie’s breath caught in her throat.

The screen showed detailed blueprints of the Grey Eagle prototype.

“They stole it?” Ryan muttered.

Briggs nodded grimly. “Victoria’s men raided one of our research facilities six months ago. They got away with an early prototype. What they have now is an incomplete version, lacking the magic stone technology that powers the deployed Grey Eagle.”

David narrowed his eyes. “Magic stones that came after the elves invaded. That’s what they’re after, isn’t it?”

Briggs turned back to Jamie. “We believe you’re the key, Jamie. You’ve had the most contact with the elves. You’ve studied their technology more than anyone and have been exposed to their thing called magic the most and they require elven magic signatures to even begin building something like a magic stone. Victoria doesn’t care about your patriotism or the official research you’ve conducted—she wants the secret behind the magic stones.”

Jamie felt a chill run down her spine. “But why?”

Briggs exhaled, his expression dark. “Because she and her backers plan to mass-produce a new model of war machines—the Grey Hound mechs.”

The room fell silent.

“Their goal?” Briggs continued. “To sell them to every warlord, terrorist, and corrupt military regime across the globe. Victoria’s got the means to make billions, but without the magic stones, the mechs are useless as they won't be able to stand against the more powerful ,agile and compact mechs operating for longer duration with the energy of magic stone, That’s why she needs you.”

Jamie clenched her fists. “So all of this… everything she did… it was never about protecting humanity from the elves.”

Briggs shook his head. “That was just a cover. Victoria and her political allies fed the world a story about ‘national security’ and ‘humanity’s future’—but in reality, they want nothing more than to flood the world with these war machines and earn some cash that would be enough to buy some small nations.”

Ryan slammed a fist against the table. “Damn it! And I thought she was just another power-hungry lunatic. But this… this is worse.”

David’s expression was unreadable, his mind racing. They had to stop her.

But then, before anyone could react—

A deafening explosion rocked the carrier.

Victoria Strikes Back

The alarms blared. Chaos echoed through the command center as emergency lights flashed red.

A frantic voice came over the ship’s intercom.

“We’re under attack! Enemy aircraft inbound! And—dear God—there are mechs on deck!”

David’s instincts kicked in. “Move!”

The team rushed to the carrier’s flight deck, weapons drawn. The moment they stepped outside, chaos greeted them. Smoke filled the air as anti-air defenses fired toward the darkened sky. Several of Victoria’s gunships loomed overhead, dropping Grey Hound mechs directly onto the deck.

The hulking war machines stood over twenty feet tall, their armored frames reinforced with heavy plating and advanced targeting systems. Each step they took sent shockwaves through the deck.

“They’re using the stolen prototypes!” Ryan shouted.

Jamie’s blood ran cold. If Victoria was willing to deploy the Grey Hounds here, it meant she was desperate. She was here for Jamie—and she wasn’t leaving empty-handed.

From the deck below, Victoria Langley’s voice crackled over the loudspeakers.

“Jamie Lancaster! You’re coming with me.”

Battle on the USS Liberty

The first Grey Hound mech fired, launching a barrage of high-energy rounds toward the carrier’s defenses. Metal screamed as part of the deck exploded.

David, Ryan, and the SEALs opened fire, but their rifles barely scratched the mechs’ armor.

“These things are built for war,” Jack cursed. “We need heavier firepower!”

Briggs’ voice came over the radio. “Deploying railguns and anti-mech rockets! Hold the line!”

Jamie ducked behind cover, analyzing the mechs’ movements. From what she learned from the pervious breefing Unlike the Grey Eagle, these models weren’t optimized for magic stone energy. Their power sources were crude imitations, making them less efficient but still deadly but the efficiency could be a deadly factor for the mech too and in order to do so.

She turned to David. “We need to overload their power cores!”

David nodded. “Tell me how.”

Jamie grabbed a fallen radio. “Engineering team! Redirect high-voltage currents to the deck’s electrical grid! We’re gonna fry these bastards!”

The response was immediate. “Acknowledged! Rerouting power now!”

The SEALs began luring the mechs toward the center of the deck. As they stepped onto the designated area—

Jamie yelled into the radio. “Now!”

A surge of electricity exploded from the deck, arcing into the Grey Hound mechs. Their systems spasmed, their limbs locking up as sparks flew from their circuits.

Ryan seized the opportunity. “Light ‘em up!”

Missiles and railgun rounds tore into the immobilized mechs, sending fiery debris into the air. One by one, they collapsed.

But as the final mech fell, Victoria’s voice echoed over the comms again—calm, confident.

“Not bad, Jamie. But this isn’t over.”

David’s eyes narrowed. “What the hell is she planning now?”

The War Isn’t Over

A second wave of Victoria’s forces began their approach—more gunships, more mercenaries. But before they could reach the carrier—

A fleet of U.S. Navy destroyers intercepted them.

Missiles streaked across the sky, forcing Victoria’s reinforcements to retreat. The battle had ended—for now.

Jamie exhaled sharply. She had survived another attempt on her life, but she knew one thing for certain—

Victoria Langley would never stop.

David placed a hand on her shoulder. “We’ll finish this. We’re not letting her get away with this.”

Jamie met his gaze, determination burning in her eyes.

It was time to take the fight to Victoria.
