Chapter 276: Chapter 275: Information Beyond Imagination Chapter 276: Chapter 275: Information Beyond Imagination âWhatâs wrong?â Seeing Suo Menâs expression, Mu Konni asked aloud.âItâs a bit strange.â Suo Men replied, his brows tightly furrowed, his palm enveloped by flames as if he was ready to attack at any moment. But after scanning the surroundings for a long while and finding nothing, the flames on his palm gradually extinguished. He turned to Mu Konni and said, âThere are items missing from the suitcase.â
âItems missing? Hallucinogenic Potions?â Mu Konni lifted her foot and lightly kicked the young manâs corpse. âCould it be that this guy auctioned them off and couldnât wait to use one of the bottles? If thatâs the case, I must say I admire him.â
âNo,â Suo Men shook his head, bending down to continuously remove potions housed in glass tubes from the young manâs suitcase, âAll sixty tubes are here, none are missing. Itâs the books from the Black Spirit Empire that are missing.â
âBooks?â Mu Konni was somewhat puzzled. âThe Hallucinogenic Potions are our mission target, I understand we canât afford a mistake there. But the other ordinary contraband, we just happened to come upon them and would destroy them anyway. If one or two items went awry, itâs not too much of an issue, right? Maybe there was a problem during the transaction of the payment, so this guy never got his hands on them.â
Mu Konni kicked the young manâs corpse again. âI think, some things are better left handled casually after all, especially since these minor tasks donât reward us with points.â
âIâm afraid we canât handle it that way.â Suo Men said, âThe books from the Black Spirit Empire are not just ordinary contraband; they are classified internally within the organization as âconfidential.â In some ways, they are more important than the Hallucinogenic Potions.â
âHuh?â Mu Konni raised her eyebrows, asking, âAre just a few books really that important?â
âItâs because, supposedly, these books contain secrets left by the Black Spirit King. When the Black Spirit King died, he was aware of our organization. The secrets he left could potentially cause some serious leaks and damage to our organization, so we must try to prevent this situation from arising.â
âSo⊠what do we do now?â asked Mu Konni.
âFirst, clean up this place.â Suo Men said, placing his hand on the young manâs corpse. A bunch of green flames burst out, covering the young manâs body, melting it quickly like a wax candle in high heat, seeping into the ground below, vanishing without a trace, not even leaving ashes. Suo Men then reached for the suitcase, waving his hand, the suitcase along with the potions taken from it disappeared into thin air.
âAfter cleaning up, weâll head to the auction house to find a way to investigate and figure out at which link the problem with the books occurred. Hmm, didnât you say that you had been preparing the Spiritual Magic for a long time? It will come in handy soon.â Suo Men then stepped to the side and walked off.
âAlright then.â Mu Konni shrugged her shoulders and followed him.
The two walked about ten meters when suddenly Suo Men stopped abruptly and turned around, looking behind him.
Mu Konni took a few more steps before she realized it, stopped, and with a frown looked at Suo Men, âWhat is it now, whatâs gotten into you?â
Suo Menâs eyes sharply scanned the entire street, and after a long pause, he said, âItâs nothing⊠maybe Iâm just being overly sensitive⊠letâs keep goingâŠâ
With that, Suo Men turned back around, and along with Mu Konni, they walked away, heading towards the auction house.
Long after Suo Men and Mu Konni had left, faint footsteps sounded on the street.
âTap, tap, tapâŠâ
Richard emerged from the corner, watching the direction in which Suo Men and Mu Konni had departed, his eyes squintingâjust now, he had been hiding nearby using the Concealing Breath Skill, thus he had gathered a lot of information from their conversation.
The information he had gathered seemed rather intricate.
âTap, tap, tapâŠâ
With an expressionless face, Richard walked over to where the young man had collapsed, crouched down, and touched the ground, but he couldnât find any trace. He then touched the spot where the suitcase had been, still leaving no trace behind.
Standing up, Richard surveyed the entire street, clean, except for the bloodstains left by the young man during his escape, with nothing suspicious.
âThorough work, huh. They must have done this more than once,â said Richard. His thoughts then leaped to the border forest of the Jade King, the hilltop covered in fresh blood and the body of Giant Dragon Gregory, which had disappeared without a trace except for a small part of the tail.
âBreathe inâbreathe outââ
âBreathe inâbreathe outââ
Richard took deep breaths, stood looking at the empty street for a long time, then slowly turned and left the place.
At this moment, the information Richard received was really more complex than he had imagined, and he needed to take some time to digest it properly.
That night, Richard returned to the laboratory.
Upon entering the main lab, Richard looked toward the new bed in the corner where Pandora, as usual, slept soundly without any concerns or troubles.
Turning away, Richard moved towards a cupboard containing culture dishes, took one out, and placed it under a microscope to observe and filter in a mechanical manner. After this, he walked over to the lab table.
Standing in front of the lab table, Richard started taking items out of the Space Iron Ring.
First, he pulled out the Magic Rune Magic Tools he had bought at the auctionâspending over a thousand Lower-grade Crystal Coins, and he successfully auctioned off three Magic Rune Magic Tools. Each tool wasnât very powerful but had its unique features.
The first was a Ring which, when worn and activated, had a certain chance to paralyze the enemy upon physical contact. This Ring could simply be compared to a stun baton from modern Earth.
The second was a bracelet, which upon activation, could generate a small area of freezing around the body. Anyone entering this freezing field would be slowed by the low temperature, and with enough exposure, receive serious frostbite injuries. This bracelet might be likened to an oversized fridge on modern Earth.
The third was a pendant worn around the neck, which when activated, could release a certain amount of lethal toxin. This toxin could either be injected into an enemy to poison and weaken them or injected in large amounts into oneself as a means of suicide, to lessen the pain in certain instances.
The pendant could be rudimentarily compared to the false teeth with built-in poison used by many undercover agents and spies on modern Earth. To give a more vivid analogy, it was similar to the deadly necklaces worn by members of the âTamil Eelam Liberation Tigers,â with a bullet-sized container holding a cyanide capsule, which members would swallow if captured to prevent spilling secrets.
