Chapter 381: Done With Alistair
Chapter 383 of "Suddenly, I Am Rich" begins with intriguing events: "B-brotherr?" Grayâs decoy asked the question in confusion. He wasnât briefed about this at all!"Did... Donât miss it!
"B-brotherr?" Grayâs decoy asked the question in confusion. He wasnât briefed about this at all!"Did Alistair not mention that?"
"No..." the man shook his head.
Carrenceâs brows furrowed at that. He scoffed in amusement before saying out his reply.
"Heâs asking for my help, but he wonât even say that? That asshole is really something else, is he not?" Carrence eyes Grayâs decoy.
The man couldnât help but just nod along.
Carrence let out another low scoff, shaking his head slightly as if he had already lost whatever patience he had left in his body.
"Then thereâs nothing more to talk about it," he said flatly.
His fingers reached for his cigarette that was resting on the ashtray. He picked it up and took another slow inhale. He closed his eyes for a moment as he exhaled the smoke.
"That bastard can rot in jail for all I care." His words came out cold without any hint of hesitation.
"After all, he deserves it."
"..." That made Grayâs decoy speechless for a moment. He stared at Carrence for a moment. In Carrenceâs eyes and voice, there was just pure disdain.
There was a big confusion in his eyes. He wondered what had happened because on the way, Carrence was talking, it seemed like something had happened between the two of them.
"You really hate him, huh," the decoy muttered before he could stop himself.
Carrenceâs gaze snapped back to him.
"You have no idea," he replied. Hearing the name alone was enough to ruin his mood.
Grayâs decoy swallowed slightly. This wasnât what he expected. Not at all. He thought this will be some shady deal that he had to go through, but it wasnât.
"Can you ask what happened?" Gray who was still listening from the other side, asked. With it, the decoy immediately asked the question.
"What did he do?" he asked carefully.
Carrence took a deep breath and just shrugged his shoulders.
"You should ask that to him. Not me," he said.
Grayâs decoy pressed his lips together at that. He thought that he would get an answer, but he didnât.
"U-Uh, right..." Thatâs the only thing he was able to say right after
Carrence didnât say anything for a few seconds after that.
"Now Is that all?" he asked flatly. His eyes were already back to being cold and distant, as if whatever little reaction he had earlier had had completely disappeared.
"If thatâs all, then you should leave my office."
That snapped Grayâs decoy back to reality.
"Ahâ" He quickly nodded, hiding the sudden panic rising in his chest. "Y-yeah. Thatâs... thatâs all.He cleared his throat slightly, trying to calm himself.
"Alright then," he added, forcing a small smile on his face. "Iâll tell Alistair what you said."
"Good." Carrence let out a short scoff. He leaned back slightly in his chair, his gaze already drifting away.
"And tell him to go fuck himself."
"A-alright," the decoy replied, his voice a bit stiffer than before.
He knew that he couldnât say anything more to make himself stay in the office. Especially when it was already awkward, and Carrence looked like he was not calming down after seconds.
He could only gave a small nod, then turned around and walked toward the door. He reached the door and opened it. And just like that, he was out back into the hallway. A guard lead him out to the main casino area before leaving him alone to ffend for himself.
"Sir," he whispered under his breath.
"Iâm out."
There was a brief silence before Grayâs voice came through again.
"Good," Grayâs voice on the other line answered calmly. "You can leave the place now, or stay if you want. Weâll cut the connection in thirty minutes."
The decoy didnât even think twice.
"I... I want to go home already," he admitted, still feeling the tension lingering in his body.
"Alright," Gray answered immediately. "Your ride will arrive in ten minutes. You can head outside now..."
"By the way, go to my office tomorrow. Weâll talk about what happened."
"S-sure, Sir." the decoy replied, still a bit shaken. Now that he was out of eyes, all the nervousness he pushed back came running into him.
He adjusted his posture, trying to compose himself as he started walking back through the counter so he can exchange his chips. He still had to do that before leaving.
Meanwhile, inside Grayâs condo, he and Mara could only look at each other.
They were both relieved and disappointed. Relieved that the man didnât help Alistair, but disappointed that they didnât get the full story about it.
Gray slowly removed the earpiece from his ear and placed it on the table. His gaze lingered on it for a second before he leaned back against the couch.
"Oh well..." Mara muttered first, breaking the silence between them.
"Yeah." Gray let out a slow breath. That was all he could say.
Mara crossed her arms as her eyes became fixed somewhere ahead. They were still in the living room of the condo.
"That... didnât go how I expected," she admitted. She thought this was some dangerous plan, but it wasnât. It wasnât even close to being dangerous.
"Same," Gray replied quietly. He ran a hand through his hair again, his brows still slightly furrowed.
"I thought it was going to be some kind of deal," he added. "Something where money will be needed."
"Yeah. Not... whatever that was." Mara let out a short huff. "But...Brother," she muttered under her breath.
"Alistair also didnât tell me that." Grayâs eyes shifted slightly at that.
Mara tapped her fingers lightly against her arm.
"Based on how Carrence reacted," she continued, "whatever happened between them should be big"
Gray nodded slowly.
"He hates him," he said. "Based on what I hear that wasnât just light anger. That was..." He trailed off slightly.
"Deep," Mara finished for him.
"Yeah."
"But that also means Alistair wouldnât be able to do anything now. Are you still going to face him?"
Gray shook his head at that.
"Nope. Iâm already done with that. Itâs time to leave him alone and show him that he had no one in the place anymore."
