Chapter 97: Chapter 97 Uninvited GuestThe next day, in the morning.

An uninvited guest arrived at the Ginger Family.

Early in the morning, Mia Ginger, still half-asleep, was awakened by the loud laughter and conversation in the hallway outside.

There was no outlet for her waking grumpiness.

Mia Ginger irritably turned over, and the door of her room went "bang bang bang."

"Second Cousin!"

"Second Cousin!"

A shrill female voice called twice in succession.

"Let’s go downstairs first," Zuri Ginger said softly with a gentle smile on her face, "Mia can be pretty temperamental, let’s not wake her."

"I’m just really curious, how come she’s still sleeping past nine?"

"She..."

Zuri’s words were interrupted as the door to the room was suddenly pulled open from the inside.

Mia Ginger ran her fingers through her hair and yawned, "I got caught in the rain yesterday, got a bit of a headache, you are..."

Very unfamiliar, it was the first time she’d seen her.

"You’re the genuine cousin?"

The girl spoke with a somewhat brash air.

Mia Ginger turned her head to Zuri, waiting for an introduction.

"This is Josie, the daughter of Uncle’s family." Zuri pointed with her finger, but her expression was a bit stiff, clearly not pleased.

Mia Ginger suddenly understood.

Since she returned to the Ginger Family for the summer vacation, she had been constantly dragged around for beauty treatments and to learn the rules.

She had hardly seen any of the family’s friends and relatives.

But she more or less knew that Charlotte Chester’s family had a younger brother, whom she had to call uncle, and he had a son and a daughter,

The family wasn’t very close though, at least, Charlotte hadn’t returned to her mother’s house in over a month.

Mia Ginger had overheard some of her phone conversations.

It seemed—

Charlotte and her mother’s family weren’t on great terms, and the uncle on the phone seemed to be asking for money, which made her very impatient.

As for this cousin.

Mia Ginger had heard one or two things from Zuri; she had spoken to Bob Ginger, feeling fortunate that Josie didn’t visit during the summer, as her clothes and bags remained unscathed.

Could it be—

That this cousin liked to freeload?

Zuri Ginger always portrayed herself as gentle and quiet, and she took pride in her reputation. Her clothing and appearance were always meticulous, her shoe collection alone took up one whole wall in her closet, and she had plenty of good stuff.

Valuing face as she did, encountering a cousin like Josie would naturally evoke a sense of superiority, and generosity was a must, so she probably had to painfully part with many things.

Yet, a personality like Josie’s should have never known what gratitude means.

Otherwise—

She wouldn’t have said she was the "real cousin" just now.

Wasn’t she indirectly saying Zuri was fake, an impostor?

No wonder Zuri’s face turned green.

Mia Ginger’s eyes glimmered with amusement, as she stepped aside and invited her in, nodding, "Yes, I am Mia Ginger."

"You’re prettier than I imagined," Josie said as she walked over to the dressing table, sat on the chair, and looked back at her, complaining, "When I heard you were back, I wanted to come see you, but my parents wouldn’t let me, saying you just got back and were busy. That’s total nonsense, what’s there to be busy about in summer? Hey, this necklace is so pretty."

"Do you like it?" Mia Ginger tilted her head, glancing at her.

"Hehe," Josie giggled a bit shyly, "It looks really expensive."

"It’s just a necklace, I don’t wear it much, if you like it, take it." Mia Ginger smiled, her dark, bright eyes full of gentle warmth.

Josie was visibly stunned for a moment, greatly delighted, she turned to put the necklace on her neck, pouting as she muttered, "You’re nicer, who knows what treasures are hidden in big cousin’s room, she wouldn’t let me in."

"Didn’t say you couldn’t go in, it’s just that Sage just mopped the floor, it’s airing."

Zuri Ginger was practically fuming.

After speaking, she bit her lip and glared at Mia Ginger.

Charlotte Chester and her uncle’s family had a tense relationship, mainly because their grandparents favored boys over girls, particularly spoiling the uncle, which made her dislike that whole family.

Except that now Josie was irritating her.

It all began two years ago.

After graduating, Josie came to play during the summer and took a liking to some of her nice clothes. That year, having earned quite a bit from her novel, she was more generous than usual, and she gave away most things she didn’t care to use.

Since then, Josie came by every now and then.

Over the past few years, what she wore and used became more and more valuable, and she was naturally unwilling to part with them. Each time, she had to come up with excuses to protect those things.

Now that she came again, Zuri was, of course, beyond frustrated, not even letting her in the door.

And now—

Trying to wheedle Mia here.

She originally thought Mia’s personality wouldn’t accommodate her, and when the two met, inevitably, they’d fight over things, and by then, whether Josie cried or caused a scene, hopefully, they’d end up fighting.

One would stop coming to the Ginger Family, and the other would upset her uncle’s side, making Charlotte Chester even more annoyed.

Who would’ve thought—

The necklace Charlotte Chester bought got given to someone just like that by Mia!

The two were getting along like actual sisters!

Such an emotional vomit!

Zuri Ginger was frustrated to the core, yet she had to maintain a tolerant smile, exaggerating, "Josie’s definitely got younger skin, this necklace suits you well."

"Really?" Josie looked in the mirror, then turned to look at Mia Ginger, laughing heartily, "Sister Mia has great skin too, dewy and smooth even without makeup."

Zuri was momentarily stunned, nearly spitting blood in anger.

Josie was a bit younger, but seemed to have an innate way with words, knowing what to say to whom, always adapting.

If you gave her something nice, she’d praise you to the heavens; if you didn’t, she’d turn around and give you the cold shoulder.

It was simply intolerable!

Mia Ginger without makeup? seaʀᴄh thё Novelƒire(.)ne*t website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Wasn’t that a backhanded way of saying with makeup, her skin wasn’t good?

"Just graduated high school, heading to college after the summer, I’m not of makeup age yet." Mia Ginger said nonchalantly, turning as she walked, "I’m going to wash up, feel free to look around."

"Cousin, you’re the best!"

Josie turned around, beaming with a bright smile, and said.

Standing up, she tilted her chin at Zuri and went to the cloakroom.

Liking Mia Ginger just a bit more.

From the first time she’d come to the Ginger Family, Zuri had to follow her around everywhere like guarding against a thief, all fake and pretense.

How could she not be considered an adoptive daughter though?

Such petty behavior, truly thinking herself something.

Spit!
