Chapter 1: 1. Cold-heartedEarly spring, the weather wavering between warm and cold.

In the gynecology department of the city hospital, during lunch break, the corridors were unusually free of patients.

Inside the nurse station, a few young nurses gathered together, chatting and laughing softly, while an older one sat at the desk writing up medical records.

Titus Zane sat alone on a plastic chair in the rest area, hugging her bag tightly against her.

It wasn’t that it contained anything particularly valuable to be guarded against theft, rather,

it was the bouts of cold that shot through her lower abdomen, causing her to shiver involuntarily, and subconsciously tighten the shawl on her shoulders.

The cold plastic chair beneath her carried no warmth, yet it was still not as chilling as the coldness in Titus Zane’s heart at that moment.

Her pale lips curved into a hint of an arc, a self-mockery.

Just like her heart, which had been devoid of warmth for a long time.

Her head felt dizzy, and her face was devoid of any color.

Sitting alone in the corridor, isolated.

She tightened the shawl around her again, but still felt not a trace of warmth.

Her thoughts drifted far away.

"Titus, are you insane? Do you realize what it means to get into the bridal car as the bride?"

Back then, she was truly desperate, the displeased look on her father’s face, her mother’s slightly blaming eyes, the attitude of the relatives who were there just for the show...

Without caring for much else, she had made a mistake and couldn’t let her family become the laughingstock of outsiders.

Lifting the hem of her bridesmaid’s dress, Titus Zane didn’t care for much else and resolutely sat down in it...
