Chapter 44 - Accidental Encounter with an Eagle

After returning from the paddy fields to his home, Chen Yang immediately grabbed a set of clean clothes and entered the bathhouse, then comfortably took a hot bath.

By the time he had finished all this, it was already five o’clock in the afternoon and it was quickly getting dark.

Chen Yang moved with great care, almost blending in with the surrounding environment.

Listening to the rustle, Chen Yang’s first thought was that there might be a wild chicken floundering inside, so he wanted to slowly get closer and then find the chance to catch it.

But unexpectedly, as he followed the noise deeper into the weeds, Chen Yang pushed aside some nearby vegetation and was shocked to see, not far into the brush, a bird that was one to two times larger than a wild chicken!

Its wings, which it was flapping, were probably more than a meter long!

And this bird had sharp claws, piercing eyes, and a fishhook-like sharp, curved beak!

“Holy shit!

It’s an eagle!”

Seeing the features of the bird, Chen Yang couldn’t help but exclaim.

This is a massive male eagle!

Watching it struggle among the weeds, it appeared to be entangled by something and thus couldn’t take flight.

Chen Yang squatted in the bushes and observed for a moment before discovering that the eagle’s leg was caught in an animal trap, preventing it from escaping.

Upon seeing this, Chen Yang stood up from the bushes and walked over.

The eagle, already greatly frightened by its trapped leg, became even more agitated when a person suddenly emerged from the nearby grass.

Spreading its wings, over a meter long, it flapped frantically, struggling to take off, while its beak was unceasingly emitting intimidating screams!

It seemed to be warning Chen Yang not to come any closer.

“Stop flapping, if you break a bone, I won’t be able to mend it,” murmured Chen Yang, looking at the eagle’s trapped leg.

But the eagle couldn’t understand Chen Yang’s words.

As Chen Yang approached closer, the eagle kept stretching its neck, showing off its sharp beak, ready to attack Chen Yang.

Chen Yang was well aware of the danger posed by this eagle, so he stopped after reaching a certain distance.

He then found a long stick from the nearby weeds and cautiously approached the eagle with it.

Thud, thud, thud…

Despite being injured, the eagle’s strength was undiminished, and the sharp pecks it delivered to the stick produced a very clear sound.

Chen Yang let it peck at the stick.

After about four or five minutes, the eagle grew tired and stopped attacking.

Just as it lowered its guard against the stick, Chen Yang quickly used it to pin down its neck and pressed it into the ground.

At the same time, Chen Yang rushed in front of the eagle and pried its beak open with his hand!

The other hand swiftly pulled out the last taming pill of the day from his pocket and tossed it into the eagle’s mouth.

The taming pill slid down the gullet and into the stomach, slowly beginning to take effect.

Within a minute or two of swallowing the taming pill, the eagle gradually calmed down, similar to the wild chickens at home.

However, Chen Yang did not immediately let go, waiting until it was completely calm before tentatively releasing his grip.

“Don’t move around!

Don’t peck me!” Chen Yang cautiously spoke to the eagle.

By this time, the taming pill had fully taken effect, so the eagle could understand what Chen Yang was saying.

Moreover, compared to wild chickens and hares, the eagle’s intelligence was much higher.

So it even nodded its head to respond to Chen Yang.

The nodding gesture of the eagle took Chen Yang by surprise, but he soon came to terms with it.

“Stay put, I’m going to help you remove the trap, understand?” said Chen Yang to the eagle again.

The eagle gave a sharp screech, seemingly responding to Chen Yang.

Upon seeing this, Chen Yang began to forcefully pry open the trap, freeing the eagle’s trapped foot.

Afterwards, Chen Yang lifted the eagle’s leg to inspect the injury.

“Good, it’s not severe, the bone isn’t harmed.”

After the examination, Chen Yang breathed a sigh of relief.

The animal trap that had caught the eagle was a relatively small one, seemingly intended for catching wild chickens, which is why it hadn’t harmed the eagle’s bone.

However, the damage it had caused to the eagle was still substantial.

If Chen Yang didn’t help, it would likely affect the eagle’s future hunting ability and survival.

“Might as well see it through; come with me to treat the wound,” Chen Yang picked up the eagle and emerged from the bushes.

While holding the eagle, Chen Yang gauged its weight, estimating it to be at least six or seven jins, which would classify it as quite a large specimen among eagles.

And looking at the faint golden feathers on its body, it might very well be a golden eagle from the mountains.

Carrying the eagle to the path beyond Weed Slope, Chen Yang placed the golden eagle into a basket, covering it with some Tendon Grass on top to avoid attracting attention on the way back to the village.
