Chapter 438: Chapter 3: Destruction! The culprit, the Big Mosquito, was still visible in their line of sight, yet its brainwave power had reached an extraordinarily formidable level. They discovered that the further away they were, the fainter the monsterâs life response registered on their advanced detection equipment. If they didnât pursue immediately, it would soon disappear without a trace!
"Cough cough...weâve lost track of that monster already. Itâs a pity that the comrades from the Seventh and Eleventh squads sacrificed their lives without managing to keep that illegal life form from escaping. Now, letâs see if there are any remains of them left behind."
A coughing sound came from the leading flying machine, the middle-level Sheriff issued his orders!
Weâve lost it!? But they can still see the silhouette of the monster as it flew away!
The organisms within the other aircrafts stared, dumbfounded, at the leader who was spewing lies with his eyes wide open. Yet, after casting a glance at the silhouette of the monstrous creature, which now seemed even more intimidating, they fell quiet.
If the leader claimed he lost sight of it, naturally, they couldnât see it either!
Should they continue the pursuit?! Only God knew if that would lead them to total annihilation!
As life forms hailing from various interstellar civilizations, they didnât feel much of an attachment to this planet. Even as sheriffs, when faced with potential danger, their choice was naturally self-preservation!
Thus, they all accepted their superior officerâs words and turned a blind eye to the monster that had just killed so many of their colleagues.
Jia Yan, of course, hadnât anticipated this. He was prepared to continue his descent into the forest if he was pursued. The distance between the two sides had lengthened significantly, so if he escaped into the forest, his chances of survival would be significantly higher!
At worst, he could engage in a life-or-death battle within the vast grey-green forest! The outcome was still up in the air!
"Theyâre not coming after me?"
Compound Eyes looked behind nonchalantly. The Big Mosquito seemed finally relaxed.
After all, his energy was not exactly at full capacity. After that fight, Jia Yan found that not only was his energy less than half full, he felt a bit of weakness start to creep in. He estimated that he only had about a third of his usual combat power...
Of course, there was no absolute certainty in this matter. Just like humans, one never knows how strong they can be when theyâre hungry. Perhaps, in a life-or-death situation, they could muster even greater strength than usual - reality isnât something that can be easily quantified!
Nevertheless, it would naturally be better to avoid combat when out of strength.
As the chasing forces did not turn up, Jia Yan couldnât help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Having a fight really did provide a bit of a relief from the pressure Iâve been feeling recently. It seems like Iâm really getting used to combat..."
Jia Yan gave a bitter smile.
Life on this planet began to feel increasingly oppressive. Even if his energy was insufficient, he found that his vigor was getting stronger, but there was no way to release it!
Thus, he had been feeling very suppressed. Ever since he was reborn, heâd gotten used to fighting under immense pressure, so much so that he would start to feel uncomfortable if too much time passed without a real battle.
Now, even though the only thing he gained from the fierce battle was a single energy core, it was still a good thing that his mood had improved after the fight!
"I might long for peace in the future, but evidently, right now, I am still fond of fighting! I suppose I have to wonder whether this is something inherent to me or an attribute I acquired when I was reborn as a monster!"
Jia Yanâs bitter smile grew even more pronounced. It was actually a matter of the heart. He might yearn for peaceful, non-combat days, but he had become so accustomed to fighting and the feeling of growing stronger with each fight that he would actually feel uncomfortable if he stopped.
The hulking black body continued soaring in the sky.
The Sheriffâs flying machines behind him watched the Big Mosquito from a distance, not daring to pursue, infuriated beyond words!
Jia Yan slowed down his flight.
Since they had stopped pursuing, he was naturally happy to fly slowly!
Before long, he descended and vanished from their detection system, disappearing entirely from view!
He had hidden himself deep in the dense forest!
"Well, the monster probably left via the deep forest. Letâs move quickly to clean up the scene. Time to leave!"
The few police aircraft nearby cautiously moved to touch down on the ground. Some personnel, looking very sad, disembarked from the aircraft to tidy up the remains of their exploded colleagues.
Such incidents were actually quite common on this planet, so they were all pretty adept at it!
All the aircraft present represented all the forces that could be mustered in this area. The aircraft that had been chasing the fugitive had all ended up here.
Considering the incredible combat power of the monstrous creature called Jia Yan, his threat was obviously greater than these small-time criminals. Therefore, the criminals actually managed to escape quite smoothly!
Having suffered heavy losses, those in the police aircrafts didnât have the mood to chase after the other group.
The Big Mosquito really did leave this area!
However, he did not flee but flew, his Compound Eyes shining with understanding, towards a certain direction!
Given that the pursuing aircrafts had ceased chase, he could continue what he had embarked on before!
His target was that large convoy!
Jia Yan wasnât sure if theyâd disperse after being heavily attacked by the flying machines. He certainly hoped not - he really didnât want anything to happen to it since life forms were hard to come by.
About fifty kilometres away from the location of the fierce battle between Big Mosquito and the aircraft, there was, indeed, a convoy in movement. Behind them, a cloud of dust was stirred up by the furious gallop, filling the sky above.
It was the large convoy that had been attacked by the police aircraft!
