Chapter 425: Do you have lovers
Chapter 417 of "Overlord: The Multiverse" introduces the scene: "Iâm happy you think that," I said, stepping from the gloom, "but thereâs no need."They... Keep going!
"Iâm happy you think that," I said, stepping from the gloom, "but thereâs no need."
They all froze.
Four sets of eyes snapped toward meâwide with disbelief, awe, and something almost like relief.
"Youâ!" Evil Eye started, then cut herself off. Her mask of control slipped just enough for me to catch itâthe faintest quiver in her voice.
"Youâre alive?" Tina asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Tia narrowed her eyes. "How?"
"Simple," I said, dusting off the remnants of dragon flesh from my cloak. "I used a smokescreen. The moment I made sure you were all out of range, I let off a burst spell that clouded the entire chamber. It was a diversionânothing flashy, just dense magic fog with some explosive mimicry. Gave the impression Iâd self-destructed or something noble like that."
I shrugged. "Dragons are prideful. I figured theyâd hesitate before chasing through a magical smog that might kill them."
"You faked your death?" Evil Eye? asked Evileye, stunned.
"Well," I smirked, "you were already halfway through mourning. I figured it would make the story better."
Evileye looked like she wanted to yell... or hug me... or both.
"I canât believe you pulled that off," Tia muttered, shaking her head.
Tina gave a soft laugh. "We thought you were dragon food."
"Please," I said. "You should know by nowâitâll take more than a few lizards to bring me down."
"Anyway," I continued, shifting the subject, "you get what we came for? Proof?"
Tia reached into her pouch and pulled something outâa severed Quagoa tail, wrapped in cloth and stained with fresh blood.
Tina held up a second item: a signet, torn from the armor the Quagoa leader had worn.
"Perfect," I said. "Thatâs all we need. With these, we can prove the job was done. No one will question the result."
Evileye exhaled slowly, the tension finally bleeding from her shoulders. "Then letâs get out of here. Iâve had enough of frozen caverns and death glares from dragons."
Gondo nodded in agreement. "The sooner weâre back in Feo Berkana, the better. We can report to the Council and warn them that the dragons may still pose a threatâeven if the Quagoa leader is dead."
"They wonât be a threat," I said calmly. "Trust me. After tonight, theyâll think twice before stepping outside their cave again."
Evil Eye gave me a look. "Youâre not going to tell us what happened in that chamber, are you?"
"Nope," I replied. "Not yet."
Her eyes lingered on me for a moment longer, as if searching for the real answer beneath the deflection. But then she let it go. Maybe she didnât want to know just how far beyond human I really was.
We began our march back through the frozen tunnels. The cold was still biting, but it didnât seem as harsh now. Maybe it was the warmth of survival. Maybe it was just relief. The silence held no fear anymoreâjust exhaustion and a strange kind of peace.
Tia and Tina had already started whispering againâprobably about what exactly I was.
I think eye look started to change from what it previously was.
Gondo... Gondo walked quietly, like a man still trying to piece together what he had seen. I couldnât blame him. Heâd come face-to-face with something no dwarf would ever believe.
And I? I walked ahead, the blood of dragons still drying on my skin, thinking about the next steps.
To be truthful, I wanted to bring the dragon head as a trophy, but if I did that, then I would also need to explain what happened to the other three dragons. Because they are prideful species If I killed one of their companions, the other would target me, or that is what the common sense of the world is.
If I said that I managed to kill all four of the dragons, then my plans for them would be jeopardized, so I let Demiurge use the corpses.
He always found a purpose for the dead.
As I walked, footsteps padded softly beside me. I didnât lookâI didnât need to. Tia and Tina flanked me now, their presence subtle but deliberate.
"So," Tia began, casually, "do you have any lovers, Alex?"
The question came out of nowhere, calm as if she were asking about the weather.
I glanced at her sideways, noting the flicker of amusement in her eyes. "Clementine and Solution," I replied evenly. "Theyâre mine."
Tina hummed. "Interesting choices."
Tia tilted her head. "Both strong women."
"They are," I said simply.
They were silent for a moment. Then they looked at each otherâcommunicating in that silent, twin-like way they always did. A nod passed between them. Subtle, but unmistakable.
"Are you planning to increase that number?" Tina asked, her tone still light but her gaze sharp.
I gave a low chuckle. "That depends. Is someone volunteering?"
Tia smiled, and for a moment, it wasnât cold or calculating. "Maybe. Just curious how open you are to... expansion."
I didnât answer immediately. Because I wasnât expecting this.
"I donât chase," I said at last. "But I donât run either." I pick the line I thought was cool.
