"I am not useless."The words slipped out as a fragile whisper, but they carried the weight of a lifelong promise. Jessica clenched her fists, the memory of that rainy night in Queens giving her battered body the strength to stand back up. Her sudden, defiant action drew Nadia’s attention. She paused her gruesome meal, raising an elegant eyebrow at the mortal.
"You heard me?! I am not useless!!"
She walked with heavy, deliberate steps towards the enchanted iron cage, pulling her leg back, and sent a vicious kick directly into the thickest bar:
BAM!!!
A violent arc of blue electric current instantly discharged from the cage, striking her leg with the force of a sledgehammer as she forcefully pulled it back. Jessica gritted her teeth, the sharp smell of ozone filling the air. Her leg was visibly trembling from the severe neurological shock, but her eyes burned with an unbroken, manic fire.
"I won’t be useless!!" She pulled all her remaining physical strength, drawing on years of brutal Military training, and sent the second kick.
BAM!!
The barrier violently shocked her again, the feedback rattling her bones; Jessica exhaled a shaky, pained breath, and sent the third kick.
BAM!!
"What are you doing?" Nadia asked, a little bit taken aback, her fork pausing in mid-air as she observed the utterly illogical, self-destructive behavior of her prey.
"I am not useless!"
Jessica completely ignored her, winding up her battered body and sending the fourth kick.
BAM!!
She grimaced in pure, blinding pain, physically feeling her left leg giving up under the mounting nerve damage. She stumbled, catching herself, and immediately moved to her fists:
BAM!!!!
The electric defense shocked her hand back with lethal intensity. Instantly, her knuckles turned a deeply bruised, bleeding red, the skin peeling away from the sheer heat of the ward.
"I won’t stay one place and die! Even if I can’t fight you, I can still struggle!! Even a rabbit will bite when cornered! I’m not better than one!" She muttered, the raw desperation bleeding into her voice as she threw another reckless punch.
BAM!!
"Girl, did you lose your mind or something? If you continue, you won’t be able to use your hand or leg again... You do know that, right?" Nadia asked, casually pointing a long, pale finger at Jessica’s mangled, clenched fists. She spoke not out of concern, but out of a chef’s annoyance at ruined ingredients:
"You should take care of your body, I don’t like destroyed or burnt meat." She pointed out, her tone flat and clinical.
"Hahaha! If it’s something you hate, I won’t hold back then!! I figured out something else!" Jessica laughed out loud like a maniac, the sound echoing unnaturally in the grim cave. Finding the one, singular piece of leverage she still possessed—the quality of her own flesh—she threw another devastating punch at the cage.
BAM!!
"You can’t kill me?! You need me! So just shut up, sit down there, and watch!!" She snapped furiously, throwing another bloody punch, then another, the sickening crunch of her own bones completely drowned out by the thunderous electric discharges.
Nadia stared at the bleeding, thrashing human for a long moment, and simply sighed, the brief glimmer of interest fading from her eyes: "Well, I can just throw your hands away, there are still good parts on you." She said, her tone completely emotionless, and calmly focused on her food, entirely ignoring Jessica’s futile rebellion.
’I don’t fucking care!! All I know is, I won’t stay one place and get eaten!’ Jessica thought, throwing another punch, fresh, warm blood flowing freely from the deep cuts on her fist, splattering against the cold dungeon floor.
’I am not useless!’
BAM!!
The atmosphere above the island was tearing apart, heavy with the suffocating pressure of authorities clashing.
"Um... Big Sister, can you withstand such a blast?" Grace asked nervously, her grip tightening on her staff as she stared at the massive, glowing net barrier created by the four guardians, and then at the terrifying entity, trapped within it.
"We are outside the range of attacks... Not only that, the guardians already created a barrier around that attack, unless it destroyed the guardians’ shield, it won’t be a threat to us." David explained calmly, he stood firmly on his glowing support rune, calculating the exact stress limits of the Guardian formation.
"Hehehe! Die!!"
BOOOOM!!!
A gigantic, grotesque maw suddenly appeared out from the very fabric of Carolina’s spinning umbrella. Its gaping mouth faced the sky:
WHIZZED!
Everyone watched in frozen terror as a huge, concentrated red energy ball formed rapidly above the creature’s opened mouth. But instead of shooting linearly into the sky, it violently exploded outward, spreading all over the place like a devastating sonic wave of pure death, tearing up the bedrock and vaporizing the air inside the dome.
"Hold your ground!!!"
Nita yelled, her voice amplified by her divine aura, forcefully increasing her energy into the shield. ’Shit!! We already used all our divine energy into this formation... If it still can’t stop this attack, then everyone?’ She looked anxiously over her shoulder, seeing Hayatobi and Keegan desperately leading all the soldiers, and fighters towards the distant shore of the Island, trying to outrun the apocalypse.
’No!! Our job is to protect the first and second worlds!! We can’t let this many people die here!!’
BOOOOM!!!!
Carolina’s sonic attack smashed right into the silver shield. Instantly, the sheer, unimaginable concussive force transferred through the array, and all the four guardians violently vomited a mouthful of golden blood, their internal organs vibrating from the immense pressure.
’Divine energy is still too powerful! If only I’m like my sister.’ Fernando thought, his teeth fiercely gritted, pushing past his physical limits as all his remaining energy flowed right into the trembling barrier.
"Hold the line!!" Jang Gu yelled, his muscles bulging as he anchored his corner of the massive attack.
The whole guardians yelled in unison, channeling all their absolute energies into the barrier, as the destructive red attack tried to forcefully melt its way through, but miraculously couldn’t breach the silver net.
Inside the dome, Carolina’s arrogant smirk faltered for a fraction of a second. ’Are the Guardians this powerful? I lied saying I have unlimited divine energy, which I don’t... If this continues, my energy will be drained. I should just go big and end this.’ Carolina thought, as she stretched her umbrella forward.
"What is she doing?!!" Bonita yelled, her sharp eyes immediately noticing Carolina’s sudden shift in posture.
WHOOSH!!
A second, distinctly different energy ball suddenly appeared before the opened umbrella, and started rapidly spinning, violently gathering ambient spirit energy from all over the place, sucking the energy from the environment like a vacuum.
Standing safely within her own domain, Mirabella coldly narrowed her eyes: ’She is using another skill, while the first is still active. But the second is filled with Spirit energy, I thought she said she has unlimited divine energy?’ Mirabella thought, meticulously observing every single detail of the battle.
Carolina smirked at them, unaware that her fatal lie had just been exposed: "This is the end, Guardians."
