Chapter 347: Chapter 347 Difficulties of the TaskYu Shuai narrowed his eyes, "Doubting that Iâm lying? Since we need to find the murderer among us, You Qiwen and Liu Zhengping seemed like they just came down from the third floor."
"We were looking for clues on the third floor," Liu Zhengping said immediately.
"Did you find anything?"
"We heard some noise and came right down immediately, without the chance to look further," You Qiwen explained.
Yu Shuai let out a cold laugh.
"Speaking of suspicion," Li Chao turned the light toward the twins, "one of you two was the last to arrive, right?"
Chen Tu and Chen Nan, with identical faces, made the same expression; the former said, "Donât try to turn things around, why donât you tell us what you did on the first floor after the power outage!"
"And Flay," Chen Nan turned his target to Flay, "you and Fang Min had a private relationship, didnât you? I saw you whispering in the garden, and there were no signs of a struggle in Fang Minâs room. Someone can only die that cleanly without any defense if itâs done by someone familiar!"
"I killed Fang Min?" Flay sounded as if he had heard a joke. "She clung to me on her own, why would I kill her?"
"Who knows, there are so many psycho killers in the game." The twins were quite blunt.
Flay showed anger on his face, while Li Chao then said, "Letâs assume we each have our own motives, but we have signed a cooperation contract, why kill each other?"
"Wasnât it you who started it?" Yu Shuai scoffed.
The others turned their gaze to Xu Huo and the Ma Family Couple.
"What were you doing just now?" You Qiwen asked.
"We were obviously having fun," Mrs. Ma said with a flirty wink, "We donât need to report this to you, kids, donât be too nosy."
Warned, You Qiwenâs expression remained unchanged as he looked towards Xu Huo.
"A spider had crawled into the room." Xu Huo kept a calm demeanor; his earlier words were not meant to stir up relations among the players but to see their reaction.
Of course, none of these people were honest, not even Li Chao, who seemed brawny and simple-minded yet had a nuanced mind.
"I can vouch for that," said Wei Landeng. "There were noises of a fight in his room, which continued even as I stepped out of my room."
"Who attacked you?" You Qiwen pressed on.
"A spider," Xu Huo answered honestly, but the other players clearly didnât believe him.
"If you donât want to talk about it, letâs not push," Liu Zhengping said in an odd tone.
"Instead of wasting time, we better think about how to stay alive," Mrs. Ma said with a smile. "If Fang Min wasnât killed by another player, then it was someone from the castle. There wasnât the slightest noise; even a fool could tell that the killer is definitely very capable."
It was clear as day, and everyone could see that the players had no intention of avenging Fang Minâs death. Their arguing here was also for ulterior motives.
"Iâd rather believe Yu Shuai," Wei Lan said. "I think the person who killed Fang Min has not gone far. He probably wanted to kill me along with her, which is why I couldnât detect the servant coming up. And donât you find it strange? After such a long incident, Mr. Dong and the other servants havenât shown up at all."
Upon her words, the castle almost immediately returned to normal; servants were walking and talking downstairs, Mr. Dong was instructing someone to check the electrical circuits, and Hu Shan said she would go upstairs to check.
The players came out of their rooms one after another, making way for Mr. Dong and Hu Shan who were coming up, while You Qiwen woke up the maid who had passed out behind the scenes.
The maidâs eyes flew open and she lunged at Hu Shan, "Murder! Somebodyâs been killed!"
"Nonsense!" Hu Shan sternly pushed her away, marched into the room, and grabbed the small leg on the coffee table, then sighed deeply in relief, "Isnât this just a piece of ceramic ware?"
She scolded the maid, "Even a pair of fake legs sends you into a panic, stand up already, have you no manners at all!"
Wei Landeng and the others were startled at first, but when Hu Shan walked over and they got another look at the small legs, indeed, they were made of porcelain.
"All that blood on the floor canât possibly be fake, can it?" Liu Zhengping immediately said.
"Could it not be a prank?" Hu Shan retorted, "Where has Miss Fang gone?"
The players just found it unbelievable, to brazenly accuse others when the fault lies with oneself?
Could it be that Fang Min really wasnât dead?
"I think we should call the police," Xu Huo suggested.
The players stared at him in astonishment, had he lost his mind? Once the game begins, itâs assumed to be impossible to contact the outside world, and his suggestion to call the police, aside from potentially aggravating the people inside the castle, what else could it accomplish?
However, Xu Huo simply smiled and said, "Whether someoneâs dead or not, the fact is that Fang Min is missing, and she disappeared inside the castle, donât we owe an explanation to others?"
Hu Shanâs gaze shifted from him to Wei Landeng and the others, "Iâll contact the police."
Hearing her say this, Xu Huoâs expression subtly changed.
The subsequent matters could only be left to the people of the castle to handle, so the players returned to their respective rooms.
"Mr. Xu, would you need a room change?" Mr. Dong asked, noticing the mess in Xu Huoâs room.
"Letâs talk about it tomorrow, Iâm tired and want to rest early," Xu Huo said and then closed his room door.
Turning to look at the wreckage in the room, he was now certain of three things.
First, Fang Min was indeed dead.
Second, her killer wasnât Spider-Man.
Third, although Rose Castle was the setting for the game, it wasnât completely cut off from the outside world.
What Wei Landeng had found was undeniably part of Fang Minâs body, the reason it turned into porcelain was because of Hu Shan, who wore the "Peeping Eye" and witnessed the transformation of the body into porcelain at her hands, this Hu Shan was also a player.
From the state of Fang Minâs blood, she must have died during his fight with Spider-Man, but Spider-Man, who later brushed against the burned curtain ashes and went to Fang Minâs room, could be ruled out.
His mention of calling the police wasnât actually about wanting to alert authorities; even if he himself made a discreet phone call, or had a maid call, or tried other means, it might not succeed. Of course, even if it did, it wasnât his aim.
The clever part was that the game station where Rose Castle was located acknowledged the concept of "calling the police" and the law, indicating that the law here also applied to the game.
However, Fang Minâs death also indicated something elseâthat finding part of a playerâs body did not meet the requirements of the first task. Adding the incidents at the dinner, the difficulty of the first task might lie in "the entire body" or "the living guests."
If itâs the latter, then the main targets for the first task should be the players of this game session. At this point, itâs too early to conclude; at the very least, one should start by looking for the body.
The rain fell again at night and, because of what had happened to Fang Min, the players hadnât rested well, so the next day, they all looked haggard as they descended downstairs, especially after hearing Hu Shan say that she had already called the police but because of the river rising outside the castle, the bridge was flooded and there was no way in or out.
