Chapter 4 - 4: Take Responsibility for Your ActionsIsn't it such a coincidence in this world? How should I describe my feelings at this moment?

She really didn't expect to meet him here.

However, he's definitely not going to remember her.

Her heart clenched tightly, as if a slight force could tear it to pieces. His face came into her view, then slowly magnified in her pupils, as the scene from four years ago vividly replayed in her mind.

If you don't want to, then just die.

He said it so nonchalantly, but he didn't realize that his words stirred a storm in her life, deviating her life's trajectory ever since.

The man in front of her, with an extraordinarily beautiful face, was unforgettable. He was noble, elegant, with an inherent imperial aura. His lips seemed to form a natural arc, wickedly enchanting, and his well-defined features appeared as though meticulously carved by a master artisan, perfectly indescribable.

But in Sophie Smith's eyes, none of this mattered. What mattered was that this man had a heart as venomous as a scorpion's.

This, she had witnessed.

"I deeply apologize, President Land!" Sam Chapman's trembling voice rang in Sophie Smith's ear. He fidgeted nervously, holding a clean white handkerchief, wiping the wine stain on Asher Land's expensive suit, while Sophie stood by, watching the situation unfold silently.

"Get lost." His voice remained as icy as ever, making Sam quickly step aside in fright.

His gaze fell directly on Sophie, with an expression that was complicated yet indescribable.

"Take responsibility for your actions," he said in a deep voice.

Sophie clearly wasn't willing to yield. She didn't think she did anything wrong; he was the one who wouldn't leave her alone first.

She stood her ground, showing no intention of moving.

"Are you trying to test my patience?" He glared at her like a predator with its prey within reach, his eyes seeming to tell her that if she disobeyed, he'd tear her apart.

This arrogant and conceited man had no idea how much she hated him. He had cruelly destroyed everything she had, and she wished he would die!

She couldn't bow down to this demon! Never!

The hatred in Sophie's eyes was apparent to Asher, but he had always dismissed it with contempt.

"What are you standing there for? You've caused a big trouble, you foolish girl!" Sam came to her side, cursing continuously, "Hurry and serve President Land properly!"

Serve? Why should she?

"I did nothing wrong, and there's no need to argue with you here. If you don't let me go, I'll sue you for illegal detention."

Sue him?

Her attempt at a joke was far from amusing.

Her haughty and aggressive demeanor intrigued him. Regardless of whether she was playing hard to get, in whatever game it was, the rules had to be set by him.

She picked up the bag from the sofa and walked toward the door.

A burly man dressed in a black suit blocked her path, his face expressionless.

"Without President Land's permission, you can't leave."

"You!..." Sophie angrily turned back to look at Asher, only to see him with arms crossed, ready to enjoy the show.

"Since you refuse to take responsibility for your actions, there's nothing left to say. No one can take advantage of me," he asserted.

What was he talking about? What did he want?

The impending danger closed in on her, and realizing the futility of the situation, maybe, maybe she should learn to compromise. After all, she had already experienced who he was four years ago.

Turning around, she walked up to Sam, taking the white handkerchief from his hand.

Like making a great resolution, she hesitated for a long time before slowly kneeling at his feet, gently wiping the wine stain off his clothes with the handkerchief. She felt like an undignified maid, loathing herself for being so, but in front of him, she was utterly powerless.

However, he did not appreciate her change of attitude.

He gripped her chin with his large hand, forcing her to look up and meet his gaze.

"Now you want to take responsibility for your actions?" he sneered, "It's too late."
