Chapter 6 - 6: The Stubborn WomanUnder the intense and direct gaze of the crowd, Sam Chapman had an eager look.

Sophie Smith's snow-white, tender skin bore several conspicuous red marks from Sam Chapman's torment, tears unstoppable. She had never been humiliated like this before.

She looked up at the man sitting on the sofa, dressed impeccably, so calm and leisurely sipping the wine in his glass, as if none of this was related to him.

She would rather die than endure such humiliation again.

She struggled to break free, stood up, and retreated to the corner of the wall, her gaze desperate and cold.

"Don't come closer!" She shouted angrily at Sam Chapman.

Asher Land raised an eyebrow, curious to see what tricks she might still pull.

"Take one more step, and I'll die right in front of you! You bastards!"

Her body trembled, her eyes reddened, no one could underestimate her right to defend her dignity. She refused to be toyed with like a rag doll.

Sam Chapman looked towards Asher Land, but Asher Land gave no indication, didn't tell him to stop.

As Sam Chapman took his first step, he saw Sophie Smith swiftly pass by him, crashing heavily into the solid white wall.

"Ah!" A woman screamed, it was unclear who.

Dizziness set in, blood flowed profusely, she no longer could keep her balance, her vision went dark, and she fell onto the cold floor.

Fell at his feet.

Asher Land clenched his fists, striving to restrain his impulse to stand.

"President Land, this, this..." Sam Chapman lost his nerve; this could really end up fatal.

"Get out." He said, lips barely parted.

"Yes, yes!" Sam Chapman felt relieved, fled in panic.

"Everyone else, leave here within three seconds."

The crowd exchanged glances, but nobody dared to object, disappearing from his sight immediately.

He bent his tall body down, looking at her, blood still flowing, her face pale, heart inexplicably uneasy. He shook his head, picked her up horizontally from the ground, the blood seeping from her forehead staining his suit coat, making him frown in displeasure.

For the first time, he saw a woman so stubborn.

Night drew in.

The head, it hurt so much, like thousands of ants gnawing at it.

Sophie Smith rubbed her aching head, her mind blank for about three seconds, then those filthy memories surged towards her like a tide.

"No!" She suddenly opened her eyes, sat up on the bed, inadvertently pulling at the wound on her forehead, forcing a deep breath from the bottom of her heart.

She looked around, only to find the large luxurious room empty.

She opened the blanket, discovered she was wearing a clean robe, her original clothes were nowhere in sight, she took the handbag from the bedside and rummaged for her phone.

Anxiously, she waited for the call to connect.

Suddenly, the phone was snatched away, she raised her head in astonishment.

Asher Land?

When did he come in? Not a sound was made.

Asher Land's lips curved into a slight arc, he switched off her phone and tossed it aside.

"What do you really want?" She sat on the bed despondently, her eyes filled with helplessness.

She hated him, yet couldn't escape him, an undeniable fact.

"I just kindly saved you, otherwise, you might have died from excessive bleeding." He leaned down, his lips close to her ear, "Shouldn't you thank me?"

Thank him?

Does he really think she's a fool? How did he save her, every danger she faced was caused by him? Clearly, he is the main culprit, yet here he is pretending to be a good Samaritan!
