Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Man Who Haunts RelentlesslyHer body grew somewhat stiff, as everyoneâs gaze fell upon her with unabashed mockery, like a sharp sword ready to slice through every inch of her skin.
"No need to feel embarrassed. You deserve the leading role." Anna said, patting her shoulder, then walked out of the dressing room.
What else could she say? She couldnât say anything.
She couldnât proudly stand before those who doubted her and declare, "I am not Asher Landâs woman. I got this role entirely through my own efforts."
Sophie Smithâs performance on set was commendable; when she faced those cameras, she became a different person entirely. Her acting skills were extremely strong, and the director was quite satisfied with her.
"Sophie, thatâs it for today." After filming the last night scene, it was already ten in the evening. Sophie changed and prepared to rest at a nearby hotel.
She wandered aimlessly on the desolate street, her shadow elongated by the moonlight. Step by step, she boredly counted her paces until suddenly, a beam of light illuminated her, prompting her reflexively to shield her eyes.
Asher Land descended from the car, slowly advancing towards her.
Why was this man, Asher Land, never gone, even at night?
Sophie desperately wanted to ignore his presence, but she knew doing so would only compel him to reclaim his attention in an even crueler manner.
"Get in the car," Asher commanded.
She lifted her head, staring at his face that wasnât so clear in the night, her eyes carrying a plea he couldnât see.
"Iâm a bit tired from filming today. I want to go back to the hotel to rest." She couldnât resist negotiating with him once more, but in Asherâs eyes, these words were mere challenges to his authority.
"Sophie, talk about conditions when you make me happy, otherwise donât challenge me."
Sophie lowered her head, silently entering the car.
Asher did not take her to the usual Imperial Court Hotel; the car finally stopped at a high-end residential area.
A three-bedroom, two-living room house, simple and bright. It was obvious no one had lived here before because everything was untouched, orderly, without any sign of life.
"Move out of the school dormitory," Asher said.
Ha, move out of the school dormitory, living in the house he bought for her, coming to her whenever he pleased. What did he think of her? A kept woman?
"I donât like it here."
"Itâs not up to you."
"Asher, canât you stop being so domineering?" Sophie expressed her anger, "Canât you give me some personal space? I am not your puppet; you canât control me like this!"
"Alright then, be good and listen, and once Iâm in a good mood, Iâll let you go."
Was he that easy to deal with?
She said no more, her mind occupied with escaping his grasp, yet he was too formidable. For now, she couldnât think of any other way but to comply.
She glanced at the wall clock; it was already twelve oâclock. She went to the bathroom to take a shower, then wanted to return to her room to rest.
Instead of the master bedroom, she walked directly to the guest room. As she was about to close the door, Asher stopped her.
"You, what are you trying to do?"
