Axel listened to his complaints unamused and let out a tired sigh, to which Heinz raised an eyebrow and finally noticed his melodramatic mood, because Axel would have shot back a jab of his own to that response by now. But the guy being so subdued was plain weird for Heinz.

Heinz asked, “What happened?”

“Don’t tell me, you proposed to the princess and got rejected right away?” he added speculatively.

Axel’s eyebrow twitched. This guy really knew how to pick the right words, he scratched his chin and dropped the bomb unceremoniously, “Actually, it’s the opposite, I rejected her.”

“Pftttttttt, hahahahaaha ahahahahhh ahahahahhha hahahah…..” Hearing that, Heinz let out a burst of unrestrained laughter. He put his back against the wall within the room, while Axel decided to enter his apartment and closed the door. But Heinz kept laughing, but Axel simply looked at him with a deadpan expression, after a whole minute of his unrestrained laughter.

The guy slightly came back to his senses, it seems Heinz didn’t even entertain the idea that it was remotely possible in the first place for Axel to reject the 5th princess, while the opposite is quite possible. Well, from Heinz’s perspective, that was an expected belief. After all, Axel did secretly oggle the princess quite a lot.

But alas, he was bound to be disappointed, and Axel was internally amused, waiting to see what kind of expression the guy would make when learning of the truth. Lol.

Heinz finally looked at him and saw his serious expression. He chuckled slightly and said, “That was good, it’s been a while since I last had such a good laugh, you’re good, my bro.”

Axel did not respond and kept looking at him with a serious face. Heinz let out a mirthless laugh, “You’re joking, right?”

But he did not respond, so Heinz asked again, “Right?”

Axel finally revealed with a sigh, “No, I’m not.”

Then he proceeded to give a round of explanation to Heinz on how and what happened, his face changed color with each revelation, one after another, like the rainbow itself. Which almost tempted Axel to burst into laughter, but he held it in, otherwise Heinz wouldn’t believe him and think that it was indeed a joke.

When he was finally done explaining everything, Heinz had a look of disbelief on his face as well as anger, maybe? His face was drained of all color, he said to Axel after some thought,

“I still don’t believe you.”

Axel said uncaringly, “You can conclude that tomorrow, seeing Lumina and me interact, or maybe ask her about it. Though it’s doubtful if you’ll remain alive after that.”

Heinz on the another hand did not find his comment amusing and said on a surprisingly serous note, “Assuming what you said as indeed the truth, WHY THE ACTUAL FUCK DID YOU REJECT HER????????????????????????”

“ARE YOU A FUCKING MORON?, this is the 2nd most beautiful girl we’re talking about in the entire academy, no in the entire suncrest kingdom.” shouted Heinz right on his face.

Axel rubbed his eyelids in frustration, not that he didn’t understand Heinz, he did, but Heinz didn’t know what he did. If there wasn’t that issue, he might actually go for it. So, he simply said to him in a helpless but serious tone while looking him straight in the eye,

“Heinz, this is far more complicated than you can imagine.”

He said after a pause, “I’m sorry, I cannot tell you about it for now, but one day, I will tell you everything.”

Heinz also wore a serious expression, hearing that. Axel stood up and stood in front of Heinz, he chose to say something that he thought he would say far later in the future.

“Heinz, if…no…”

“I know we’ve only known each other for a little while, but am I your friend? Do you really think of me as a friend?”

Heinz narrowed his eyes at that question, he thought to himself for a while, and eventually said, “Oh, please, Axel, do not mock me, if I would not call you a friend, who do you think I would? Yes, I know most of the students coming from the prestigious families do treat me with respect and friendliness as of now.”

“But that is merely because of my rank, and aspects, they want to recruit me into their families while hiding disgust and contempt underneath. Even girls from such households come to seduce me, they think I would become their dog, the moment they offer themselves to me. As for those coming from poor backgrounds similar to mine, they come to me because we have that in common, I don’t have anything against it, but I don’t know if that can be called friendship either.”

“But you? From beginning to end, you have never treated me any differently before or after the trial.”

“So, if you’re not my friend, who is?” stated Heinz with a smile.

Axel looked at him for a moment, he replied evenly, “What if I’m also trying to use you? It’s not impossible, right?”

Heinz’s smile widened hearing that, he clenched his right fist slightly, knocked it on Axel’s chest, then stated, “Maybe you are trying to use me, maybe you aren’t, but I know deep in my heart, my brother, you will never wish bad for me, ever.”

Axel looked at Heinz in surprise, not expecting such an answer, he opened his mouth wanting to say something, but…..he was unable to, for some unknown reason.

With some visible effort, he uttered the words he truly wanted to ask,

“Heinz, if a day were to come….”

“When the whole world turns against me, will you stand with me, my friend?”

Heinz smiled and promised confidently, “I will, even if I have to face the world. We’ll do it together.”

Axel also smiled genuinely, hearing that, he also clenched his right fist in the same manner as Heinz, knocking his fist on Heinz’s chest, he said,

“Then you’re not my friend, you’re my brother from now on.”

They did a bro handshake and promised each other, even if the world turned against them, they would stand together through thick and thin, no matter what, no matter the cost. And that’s how, on that very day, Axel gained his first and most trusted friend and the only one he would ever call a brother.
