CapĆtulo 467: Damn WretchāAbout what?ā Axel asked.
āWhy are you so confident that I wonāt just turn against you and even punish you? After all. I can do that if I want toā¦ā stated Lucien questioningly.
āYou already know that. After all, you would have already done that if it were anyone else,ā answered Axel flatly.
Lucien laughed, āI suppose it is a bit refreshing to see someone talk so straightforwardly, when I have to deal with those glib-tongued nobles every day, constantly.ā
Axel chuckled but said no more. The prince asked, as his countenance suddenly shifted, āSince weāre both on the same page, I guess itās better to get to the main point. So, what are you willing to offer?ā
Axel thought for a moment, rubbing his chin, then he dropped the bomb, āRare and Epic grade rune tools of the 2nd tierā¦ā
Lucienās eyes instantly widened, āAs far as I know. Even the Greaves family is only selling your common grade 2nd-tier rune tools? Even then, the stock is exceptionally small. Iāve seen your higher-quality 1st-tier rune tools. And they are game-changing to say the leastā¦ā
āCan you really make rare and epic grade of the 2nd tier??ā he asked again, somewhat in shockā¦
āI naturally can,ā Axel assured confidently.
Axel continued, āAnd there are a few more things that I can do for youā¦for example, declare my open support. Persuade both the Greaves and the Vanelis family to similarly cooperate with you to cement your position as the crown prince further.ā
āI could be wrong, but we both know it will be a long, long time until you actually ascend as the new king. Itās more than probable for the king to sire more children if he truly is against you from inheriting the throne. The more forces in Suncrest you have on your side instead of dancing to the kingās whims, the more solidified your position is for the future.ā
āBut there are a few more things I must state. I wonāt personally join in the war or be in war territory. You can include my name, but I will only supply the Suncrest army with the rune tools. Furthermore, the rune I provide to you will only be for the royal family aloneā¦ā
āThe actual distribution rights of my rune tools will remain with the Greaves family.ā
Lucien processed all that information in a few seconds, and he reluctantly nodded because Axel had hit the nail on the coffin with every one of his conditions, as someone who knew the princeās true nature very well and had inside knowledge of the royal familyās dark nature. It wasnāt too difficult for Axel to create a situation in which Lucien had no choice but to agree.
Lucien let out a sigh, āNow, letās hear what you want from me, Axel?ā
With a nod, Axel laid out his own demands, āI only want three things for now. First and foremost. Heinz must be released today.ā
Lucien shook his head, āIām sorry, thatās not within my authority.ā
Axel tilted his head, looking at Lucienās red eyes with a strange glint, āLet me guess. Did you try to convince Heinz to work for you? And he refused every single time, right?ā
Lucien frowned. Axel added, seeing his reaction, āYou should understand his character very well by now. That guy hates nobility to his absolute core. The only exception to it is probably Vyra alone. Suppose you help me release Heinz today. I will tell Vyra to put in a good word for you.ā
āI know you find this beneath you, to go to such lengths for a commoner. But it is what it is. And antagonizing Heinz wonāt really be helpful either, since he will be under your command within the Suncrest army. You should deal with this as softly as possible.ā
āAfter all, regardless of his birth status, he remains the Seeker with the highest potential amongst our generation, with the sole exception of the Valkyrie, of course.ā
Lucien chuckled, āYouāve got quite the glib tongue yourself?ā
Axel could feel the inherent smugness that was within Lucien. After all, the golden prince also had 7-star potential, but the bastard would never know that Axel was also the same. In fact, as they both possessed the lineage of the two strongest races on this continent, their potential was far higher than anyone else, even Heinz. But again, except the Valkyrie.
It didnāt matter whether it was the strongest demon or the strongest Dragon; in a similar phase and stage, no one could ever hope to match the individual battle prowess of the Valkyries. That remained the absolute truth.
But the heavens were also fair in their twisted manner, as if they gifted humanity with the Valkyrie to make up for their weak stance on the continent. But at the same time, due to that very insane potential, the valkyries could never truly reach the full height of their potential after a certain point.
The Valkyries could never truly reach a high enough phase to declare themselves the absolute strongest, at least not most of the time, from what Axel knew.
After all, if each generation of the Valkyries could really become the strongest on the continent, humanity would sit at the top by now, not at the bottom of the continental hierarchy of racial power.
Axel added his 2nd condition without responding to his snarky remark, āI wish to learn forging from the Valkyrie herself.ā
Lucien blinked his eyes in surprise, until he burst out a mocking laugh, āYou must be dreaming, if you think you can learn anything from her? No, what makes you think I can even make her do anything? Youāre better off requesting that of my little sister since Lumina is much closer to Sophia than I am.ā
Axel wasnāt surprised by his statement. He continued, āIām asking you to try, that is all, because Iām somewhat lacking in the forging department. As she is the best at it, learning from her directly would greatly improve my tool-crafting efficiency. Which means I can supply you with more and better rune tools.ā
Lucien said in displeasure, āIām pretty good at forging myself. I will teach you if you really are lacking that much.ā
Axel looked at the prince as if he were an idiot, āAre you better than her in forging?ā
Lucien snorted, but he did not respond. Axel sighed, āPlease just ask her for it, that is all⦠as for the third request. I donāt have any at the moment. I ask that of you in the future.ā
The prince nodded reluctantly. He closed his eyes as if thinking about something deeply. As he opened his eyelids, his gaze shifted to something threatening, āLet me give you a warning, Axel Nomrad. I think youāre too suspicious. The recent destruction of the Vex family, then your familyās sudden rise. I donāt even understand why the Greaves and the Vanelis family lords are supporting you so sincerely?ā
āIt canāt be just because of your runic talent. Thereās also the fact that neither my sister nor I remembers anything about you from the academy. No, perhaps the most suspicious thing is your awakening from an incurable coma exactly one year before the academyās opening.ā
āI donāt have any evidence, but itās doubtful if youāre truly Axel Nomrad or someone else. I donāt know what youāre after, but allow me to reaffirmā¦.ā The crushing weight of Lucienās 2nd phase pressure descended upon Axel like a tide. But the blue-eyed runecaster remained unaffected simply because he wore an artifact that granted immunity to such pressure.
Lucien continued in a dark tone, āIf you try to be anything more than a cog in the wheel that you are supposed to be, I will not hesitate to eliminate you.ā
Axel wore a smile that was not a smile, remaining unbothered by the threat posed by the prince, āDonāt worry. Your Highness, I donāt intend to be anything more than that.ā
Lucienās threatening face immediately vanished as he smiled, āIn that case, we could actually be friends, hahaā¦.ā
āI guess only time will tellā¦.ā chuckled Axel as he stood up.
Lucien extended his arm for a handshake, āIndeed. Only time will tellā¦ā
One was a haughty prince carrying the bloodline of the strongest dragon, but his nature was that of a slippery snake. So that his enemies and allies all would underestimate him, and anyone who dared to belittle him would only pay the price for it when the time was right.
While the other was a demon hiding in human skin. But the key difference between the two was that the demon knew everything about the prince, but the prince did not know of the hiding demon, and for that, he would naturally pay a steep price when the time was right.
The prince thought that he was the one playing everyone, not knowing there was a hyena even more ferocious and vile than him, right in front, and wearing the guise of a defenseless sheep.
Lucien stated, āA servant will take you to where Heinz is; you can take Miss Vyra with you, and he will be released.ā
Giving one last thanks and a polite smile, he turned around, following right behind the servant. But his face now showed incomparable coldness. Being threatened like that by the Dragon bloodline holder made his own demon blood boil in rage.
This anger was not something he could control; it was the innate nature of his half-demon existence. This would only become more prevalent as he became more and more of a demon, shedding his human self completely.
He growled in his mind, at least to calm the raging storm of fury, āLucien fucking Suncrest. Donāt worry, I will stomp you under my feet again. It wonāt be long, you damn wretch.ā
