Axel’s expression shifted considerably when Vargas delivered him the news of this. He was too busy inside the runic chamber of Damien Nomrad to pay any attention to what commotion was happening outside. So, he couldn’t be blamed for not noticing it.Besides, even if he did notice it, it’s not like he could go outside and reveal himself. Axel had passed by this enormous dark colored mansion many times in the past. And he would always look at it with disguised hatred and contempt, as he vowed to destroy it one day with his own hands. The mansion was extremely large and luxurious, though it could not compare to the royal palace in the capital; it was still a marvel to look at.
The guards outside were about to bring the two of them inside, but suddenly, the personal knight of the Duchess, who was called Florence if Axel remembered it correctly, came and declared sternly, "Daniel Nomrad, you are not allowed to come. Only Axel Nomrad has been summoned. You may go back."
The knight’s tone was haughty, filled with arrogance. Even though Daniel was now known to be a 4th phase being, the knight did not show him an ounce of respect.
This greatly displeased Axel, but before he could say anything. Daniel let out a cold snort, "You can tell the Duke that I will be going alongside my son. If he doesn’t agree to that, then we shall head back on our way."
Florence furrowed her eyebrows as she sneered, "That’s not something you have any control over. If the Duke wishes for something, you will have to obey, nothing more and nothing less."
Daniel’s eyes flashed in undisguised killing intent. For the first time in a long time, he showed his bloodthirsty side, his voice spitting venom, "Whatever he wishes? OVER MY FUCKING DEAD BODY."
Daniel Nomrad’s sudden chilling tone took Florence aback. Before she could think of a proper response, a voice reached her ears through mana transmission, "It’s fine, let them in."
Her expression turned rigid. She was the loyal knight of the Duchess, who had told her explicitly not to allow Daniel Nomrad in, as she was sure that Daniel Nomrad would indeed come with his son and not let Axel come alone into the house of his enemy.
But the voice that just reached her years, was that of the Duke himself. No matter how unwilling she was, she could not disobey the orders of the most powerful man in charge.
She announced coldly, retracting her own retaliating pressure, "The Duke has allowed both of you in."
Daniel wore a mocking look on his face, as if knowing this would happen. He walked straight through the entrance, alongside his son. Meanwhile, Florence’s expression was black. The Duchess would be greatly displeased with her, since she wasn’t able to make Daniel Nomrad turn away in time.
Now she could only lead the way to Duke Allen’s office, where the meeting would be held.
It did not take more than a minute for the father and son to reach the Duke’s main chamber, and throughout the palace, they walked; everyone who saw the two of them wore hostile, belittling expressions without fail.
But how could that intimidate Axel? In fact, he was greatly surprised by how imposing and arrogant his caring father was at this moment. He was haughty and without a single shred of fear, as if he were no less than a 5th phase being himself.
The doors of the office chamber of the Duke opened with a slight creaking sound. The Duke’s table was filled with many thick books, and he himself was reading one with an expressionless look. Ken Dusker was sitting at one end of the room, and a light, golden-haired, mature woman was standing obediently beside the Duke. It was obviously the Duchess.
Daniel led the way into the room, and Axel walked right behind. The Duke’s eyes moved, and the first thing he looked at was Axel directly with a piercing gaze. His gaze held no hostility, but rather a countless array of emotions that even Axel could not decipher.
But the Duke’s emotions were powerful. Axel’s demon bloodline constantly sent warning signals to him: that this man who looked at him was like a predator, and he was like helpless prey. If the Duke wanted, he would be killed without even the slightest chance of retaliation.
The Duchess also had a powerful gaze straight towards Axel. But this one was a nasty gaze filled with hostility; not only that, but there was also a deeply hidden shock in her eyes; she never expected Axel Nomrad to be completely unscathed. What sort of wicked sorcery was this?
She was calm and collected outside, but on the inside, her mind was in utter shambles, unable to make heads or tails of how it was possible.
Seeing the deeply hidden panic of the Duchess, Axel’s mouth curved ever so slightly, forming a smile that was not a smile.
Meanwhile, Daniel’s eyes were burning with boundless rage; the hatred he had for both the Duchess and Duke Allen Dusker could not be quelled with even an ocean of water. But Allen and Livia Dusker seem to be mostly ignoring Daniel, both with their gazes locked on Axel, each with their own complicated emotions.
Axel could tell there was a deep history behind this dynamic. But he wasn’t sure of the precise details. He had asked Vargas about it multiple times, but the old assassin was unwilling to talk about this particular matter, no matter how much he pushed for it.
He could only guess that this was something very personal to his father, so Daniel would rather his son not know about any of it.
The Duke finally seemed to control his complicated emotions as he spoke for the first time, his voice carrying a trace of melancholy, "So, you’re Myra’s son? You do resemble her greatly."
But in the very next instant, the Duchess spoke in a whisper, "Indeed, the boy greatly reminds me of that Whore."
Her words were said so softly that one might not even hear them, yet everyone in that room was a powerful Seeker in their own right. How could they not hear the words spoken? The duke did not react, but the expressions of both father and son turned utterly chilling at the exact same time. As they let out their killing intent.
