Chapter 42 - Binding Contract Maker

"Well, what's going to be your town situation now that you're the new sheriff?"

"Oh no! I'm just the deputy. And I can't be a deputy without a sheriff. It's called chain of command!"

"It should be someone brave like you, but more of a homebody. Someone who'll settle down and watch over us. I heard the Powder Gangers talking about someone in the prison named Meyers who has some experience as a sheriff."

"He may be a good choice. Also with the NCR so close by, you may be able to get them to take over the town. Not sure why they haven't helped out already."

While Beagle was saying all this. Six didn't stop staring at Meyers because he was snickering the whole entire time Beagle was talking. Not knowing that the man he's talking about is right in front of him.

As Beagle rambled on about the town's need for a sheriff, Six raised an eyebrow and glanced over at Meyers, who was suppressing his laughter. It was obvious that Beagle had no idea he was talking about the very person standing right there.

"You know."

Six interrupted, a grin forming on his face.

"Meyers here might just be the guy you're talking about."

Beagle blinked, confused, before his eyes finally darted to Meyers. His face flushed with embarrassment as the realization hit him.

"Wait... You'reMeyers?!"

Beagle exclaimed, his voice a mix of shock and awkwardness.

Meyers chuckled, crossing his arms.

"That's right, Deputy. I used to be a sheriff, and if Six here backs me up, I wouldn't mind wearing the badge again."

Six nodded.

"He's a better fit than anyone else around here, especially since the NCR is dragging their feet. What do you say, Beagle? You ready to give him the job, or should we see if your 'chain of command' can survive without him?"

Beagle, still flustered, quickly nodded in agreement.

"Oh, absolutely! Meyers will make a fine sheriff. I'm sure the town will be much safer with him in charge!"

"Good choice."

Six said, patting Beagle on the back a little harder than necessary, causing the man to stumble.

"Now, Meyers, it's time to show these Powder Gangers who's boss around here."

Meyers nodded confidently.

"You got it. I'll get to work as soon as things settle down."

Six turned to his crew, including Rebecca, who had been watching the exchange with an amused expression.

"Alright, crew. Let's wrap things up here. We've got a town to secure, and then we'll see if Meyers can handle being sheriff."

Rebecca smirked, still perched on Six's back.

"I love when you play the hero, big guy. Let's make this quick—I've got plans for you tonight."

Six chuckled, his grip tightening on Rebecca as he looked out over the wreckage of Primm.

"Then let's finish what we started."

Six took his Team and headed back to the Vicky and Vance Casino. With Beagle amongst them. Entering they encountered Johnson Nash at gunpoint again.

Six stared at Johnson Nash with glaring eyes, telling him

"You're going to get shot one of these days old man. Ohh, Also. I freed Deputy Beagle and killed the Powder Gangers."

"Kind of too bad you didn't do it the other way around! Primm ain't got no future until the rule of law comes back to town. I feel safer already. Meanwhile, there's still more of them Powder Gangers out there than I care to count."

Johnson Nash said all that in a very clear sarcastic tone so that everyone knew what he really meant. Then he was cut off by Rudy Nash coming to talk.

"Quite a town we got here. Sheriff gets murdered, and Deputy Beagle is dragged off for ransom to the Bison Steve. That should bring back the tourists."

"What we need around here is a real sheriff. Someone who can help fight off the next attack"

Johnson Nash said.

Ding!

Binding Contract Maker:

A standard contract is subject to conventional laws, but a Binding contract is governed by the laws of magic. Instead of enforcement through legal penalties, it is inherently unbreakable. It is often suggested that the magical consequences of violating a term may depend on the consent of the signatory. Violation by any party could lead to the immediate demise of the transgressor.

Ding!

Once again, he leveled up, reaching level 15. This time, he boosted BARTER to 78, further enhancing his bartering proficiency. For his perk, he selected:Adamantium Skeleton: Damage taken by limbs reduced by 50%, ensuring that even if he faced the worst of hits, his body would stay intact.

Six felt a surge in his ability to strike better deals and secure more profitable trades became unparalleled, making him even more of a force in negotiations across the Mojave. Given the increasing dangers in the wasteland and the inevitable physical toll from intense battles, he selectedAdamantium Skeleton.

"Perfect," Six muttered, feeling an inner strength solidify. "Now I'll be even tougher to bring down."

TheBinding Contract Makerappeared in Six's inventory with a soft hum, glowing faintly with magical energy. As Six inspected it through his Pip-Boy, he felt the weight of its potential. A tool like this could be invaluable, especially in a world where alliances and trust were fleeting. With this, any agreement he made would be unbreakable—bound not by laws, but by magic itself. The consequences for betrayal were dire: death to whoever violated the contract.

Rebecca, standing beside him, peeked over his shoulder at the description on the Pip-Boy.

"That thing looks serious. You thinking of using it soon?"

Six grinned.

"Might come in handy when we start dealing with the bigger players in the Mojave, or maybe even the NCR. Imagine making a deal that no one can back out of."

She raised an eyebrow.

"Just make sure you don't sign one yourself without thinking things through, big guy. Magic tends to have... tricky consequences."

Six nodded.

"Don't worry, I'll use it when the time's right. But for now, let's focus on getting Primm sorted and dealing with the Powder Gangers."

The Binding Contract Maker was tucked away for future use, and Six couldn't help but wonder when the perfect moment to unleash its power would come.

"So, even with a new sheriff, the same unfortunate events might recur. Given that Primm is already a trade ally, perhaps it could join as a sovereign town under Goodsprings?"

Six suggested, prompting Johnson to consider the proposal.

Johnson Nash paused, his weathered face thoughtful as he considered Six's suggestion.

"Hmm... I never thought about it that way, youngster. We've always been on our own, but with the way things are going, Primm could use the protection. If joining Goodsprings means we'll have that same level of defense, it might be worth it."

Six nodded, leaning forward.

"Of course, Johnson. Goodsprings is already the most fortified settlement in the Mojave, and we'll make sure Primm gets the same treatment. No more bandits or rogue NCR troopers causing trouble here. You'd keep your autonomy as a town, but you'd benefit from the same security infrastructure we have. With Goodsprings growing stronger every day, Primm can only gain from this partnership."

Johnson exchanged a glance with Ruby, who gave him a small nod of approval.

"Alright."

He said after a moment.

"If you can promise us those defenses, I think Primm would be happy to join as a sovereign town under Goodsprings."

Six nodded, pleased with Johnson's response. "Absolutely. We have the resources and manpower to bolster your defenses significantly. With the walling system we've implemented in Goodsprings, you'll be much safer against raiders and other threats."

Johnson stroked his chin, contemplating. "And what about trade? I assume that would be part of this agreement?"

"Of course"

Six replied.

"We can establish a mutual trade route and eventually open a subway. Goodsprings can provide goods and security, and in return, Primm can supply us with the things you have in abundance—like food, water, and unique goods from your shops. This partnership would strengthen both our towns."

Ruby leaned back in her chair, clearly intrigued.

"So, we'd be essentially joining a larger community. What's the catch, young man?"

"No catch."

Six assured him.

"Just a mutual agreement to protect and prosper together. We'll make sure you're well-armed, and your people will have the safety and security they deserve. This isn't just about defense; it's about building a brighter future for both towns."

Johnson nodded, a smile creeping onto his face.

"You've got yourself a deal, Six. Let's shake on it."

Six and Johnson signed a binding contract and extended his hand, sealing the agreement with a firm shake that would bring a new era of safety and prosperity to Primm.

"You won't regret it. We'll set up defenses, patrols, and ensure your new sheriff has all the backup he needs."

With the deal struck, Six knew this would solidify Goodsprings' influence over the region, further expanding their growing power.

"Consider it done. We'll get started on reinforcing Primm right away."

With that, a new alliance was forged, one that would further extend Goodsprings' reach and influence across the Mojave.
