Chapter 74: Chapter 74 Overflowing CompassionSophie Smith knew she couldnât out-talk Asher Land. Perhaps she should slowly get used to itâused to Asher Landâs tone of voice, his domineering and overbearing personality, everything about himâuntil he got bored of her.
"I want to get out of the car."
She didnât know why, but a wave of nausea suddenly surged in her heart. Maybe she had eaten something bad at noon, and the cramped car felt a bit stuffy. She wanted to get some fresh air.
Asher Land steadily parked the car by the roadside. Sophie opened the door and swiftly ran to a nearby trash can.
"Ugh..." She dry-heaved, wishing she could just pull her stomach out.
"Whatâs wrong?" Asher Land asked anxiously while patting her back.
"Iâm fine. I just ate something bad at noon."
Asher was still a bit worried and insisted on taking her to the hospital.
"Really, Iâm fine. Just give me a bottle of water."
Asher rushed back to the car only to find there was no water.
"Wait a few minutes, thereâs a vending machine up ahead, Iâll get some for you."
Sophie watched Asherâs retreating figure, and her emotions turned complex. One second he was mocking her coldly, but the next he wasnât so annoying, showing care and concern for her.
"Why am I thinking so much?" Sophie shook her head. "Heâs just suddenly overflowing with sympathy."
Asher Land strode back, handing her the water.
"You should head back. Itâs not far from home, I can walk, Iâm a bit carsick." Sophie took a sip of water, her face slightly pale.
"Iâll walk with you."
"What?"
"Canât understand human speech?"
Asher walked ahead alone. Sophie sighed helplessly and had to stride to catch up.
"Can you slow down a bit?"
Asher stopped, stepped back a few paces, and grabbed her hand. Sophie struggled to free herself, but after a few seconds, she gave up.
"Thatâs better."
Asher was very pleased with her reaction. It was only a ten-minute walk, but it took them almost an hour. They stopped and started, with him holding her small hand, giving her a momentary illusion, as if they were a couple madly in love.
When they got home, before they even entered, Asher received a call from the company. It seemed he had to rush over again.
"Will you be coming back here tonight?" Sophie asked, immediately regretting it.
"I mean, if youâre busy, you donât need to come over." She quickly explained.
"What if Iâm not busy?"
Not busy would be better if he didnât come...
"If youâre not busy, just do as you please," Sophie said helplessly.
Asher smiled slightly, pulling her into his arms. A long, passionate kiss swept over her, making Sophie feel like she could hardly breathe, and only then did he let her go.
"Wait for me, Iâll definitely come back tonight."
Sophie couldnât help but lament in her heart, heaven knows how much she hoped he said he wouldnât be back.
Asher hurried to the company and walked towards his office. The door was ajar, and inside came some unsavory sounds.
"Baby, youâre so hot, I love you to death."
The voice sounded somewhat familiar.
Asher swung the door open, startling the two tangled up in his office.
"Sneaking around in my office? Youâve got some nerve," Asher stood at the door, coldly eyeing the disheveled man and woman on his desk.
"Oh, Asher, long time no see, why didnât you announce yourself before coming in?" a flippant male voice responded.
