Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Who is More Important? (Part One)A week later, Sophie Smith was finally able to get out of bed and move freely. The feeling was like being reborn. She stood by the window and stretched lazily.
Autumn was settling in, the weather was a bit chilly, and Sophie hugged her thin body, shivering uncontrollably.
Her gaze was somewhat dazed as she watched the yellow leaves falling from the trees, seeing those withered leaves spinning ceaselessly in the sky before landing on the ground, one after another.
During this period, she felt incredibly relaxed with no announcements, no film offers, like being isolated from the world, only the sporadic news about her on TV reminded her of her identity.
A newcomer actor starting to gain popularity.
Asher Land entered quietly, and as Sophie turned around, she bumped into his hard chest.
"You frightened me." Sophie clutched her chest, exhaling deeply.
"Iâve had the discharge procedures arranged. If you want, you can leave the hospital today."
"Of course I want to." Heaven knows, the smell of hospital disinfectant makes her want to vomit.
He seemed to be in a good mood today; seeing her about to pack her things, he immediately stopped her.
"Those things, Iâll send someone to pack them later."
"Asher, I can take care of myself now. No need to trouble others with such minor things, right?" She wasnât the kind of pampered miss who waited on hand and foot; things she could do herself, she wouldnât want to trouble others.
"I said no need to pack," Asherâs tone was firm.
"I donât want to bother others,..."
Her sentence trailed off as she saw Asher had already bent down to pick up some scattered items on the table, neatly categorizing them.
Sophie stared incredulously at Asher, who was tidying up, and suddenly felt a warm sensation in her heart. She didnât know how to describe her feelings at that moment.
Asher finished tidying everything up and raised his eyebrows at her.
"How about now? Satisfied?"
She instinctively nodded.
The door suddenly opened, and Robert Williams appeared tightly wound before Sophie.
"President Land, someoneâs constantly insisting to see Miss Smith. Shall we allow it or not?"
Clearly, it was about someone wanting to see her, yet Robert was asking for Asherâs opinion.
"No," his answer was simple and direct.
"Who is the person anyway? Whatâs her name? Do I know her?" Sophie asked eagerly.
"She said her name is Eva Miller."
"Itâs Eva! Of course I want to see her!" Itâs her own fault for neglecting to call her all this time.
"Well..." Robert looked helplessly at Asher.
"Eva is my most important friend, you know that, so can I see her for a moment?" She cautiously sought Asherâs opinion because he called the shots now.
"Whoâs more important, her or me?"
What?
What a strange question. Does it even need asking?
"Of course sheâs more important."
Asherâs lips twitched slightly, good, this woman is starting to annoy him again. After being hospitalized for so long, her brain is getting less clear.
Sophie seemed to realize she said something wrong; pardon her, she admittedly lacked some thinking just now.
But itâs just the truth; whatâs there for him to be angry about?
"Iâll ask again, whoâs more important, her or me?"
Apparently, Asher was not giving up easily.
Sophie wanted to bravely stare into his eyes and say, âSheâs more important.â
Yet, the words were swallowed back.
Knowing the right time to compromise is wisdom.
"Youâre more important," she said, going against her conscience.
