Robert Williams and Nanny Garcia said nothing more, closed the door, and withdrew.About half an hour later, he finally sat up from the bed.
He ordered the maid to bring two cases of wine from the cellar. Yes, only this way could he numb the searing pain tearing through his heart.
In his mind, her figure was relentless, refusing to leave.
In the past days, there was no peace at the Land Family.
Asher Land drank excessively, leading to a gastric hemorrhage, and the usually robust man found himself unable to get out of bed.
Nanny Garcia bustled around the room, busy taking care of Asher Land.
"Oh, right, send a few more pieces of clothing to Miss Smith. Also, the meals should be richer, made according to her previous tastes. Besides that, find out if thereās anything else Miss Smith needs. Let me know immediately if there is," Nanny Garcia said, heaving a deep sigh.
"But, Butler Garcia, it seems the young master is determined to teach Miss Smith a lesson. If we do this, wonāt the young master get angry?" the maid asked quietly from the side.
"He wonāt. If the young master blames anyone, Iāll take responsibility."
The maid responded and went on to follow Nanny Garciaās instructions.
Sophie Smith had been confined in the basement for two days and nights by Asher Land. She really feared that Sophie might collapse.
In the master bedroom.
Asher Land rubbed his temples, gradually waking up through the throbbing pain.
Doctor Lewis saw him awake, quickly set down the medicine he was preparing, and approached.
"Mr. Land, are you feeling any better?"
Asher Landās eyes scanned the room. He was currently in his own room, an IV stand hung beside his bed, a needle inserted in the back of his hand, the medicine being administered into his body.
How long had he been lying in bed? Why couldnāt he remember anything?
"Mr. Land, do you feel any other discomfort?" Doctor Lewis asked again, seeing that Asher Land remained silent.
"How long have I been lying here?"
"Two days and nights."
"What?"
He had been lying for two days and nights? Does that mean he had kept her locked in the basement for two days and nights?
A panic welled up inside him, and he haphazardly ripped the IV from his hand, slipping into a pair of slippers, his steps a bit unsteady as he made his way downstairs.
"President Land, what are you planning to do? Itās cold outside, please put on some clothes first." Doctor Lewis followed him out hurriedly.
Reaching downstairs, he saw Nanny Garcia anxiously discussing something with several maids and Robert Williams.
"What are we going to do now? The young master hasnāt woken up yet. What about Miss Smith?"
"What do you mean, āwhat aboutā? What happened to Sophie?" Asher Land nearly raced to them, his eyes bloodshot.
"Young master, youāre awake..."
"Speak quickly! What happened to her?" he asked, his tone somewhat frantic.
"Miss Smith was fine last night, but when the maid went down to deliver her meal just now, she found that Miss Smith had suddenly fainted..."
"Damn it, are you all dead? Donāt you know to bring her out of the basement when she faints?"
He dashed out, wearing his robe and slippers, looking so nervous the maids swore theyād never seen anything like it.
He hurriedly ran to the basement, his heart constricted tightly, she couldnāt be in trouble, absolutely not.
Even from outside the door, from afar, he saw her collapsed on the ground, clothes in disarray, hair messy, face swollen, lips drained of color.
"Sophie!"
He trembled as he unlocked the iron door, pulling her into his arms.
