Chapter 20: Chapter 18: Failure to Counter Espionage"Maya, let me go get your phone, you head back to the dormitory first." Ella turned around upon hearing Mayaâs angry shouts, releasing her arm as she retraced her steps.
Just as she turned, she heard a man say to Maya, "Maya, come with us, we have something we need to discuss with you."
Hearing the manâs voice, Ella quickened her pace, desperately heading toward the teaching building. As she reached the main road, she broke into a run.
In the small grove, Maya was forcibly dragged into the dim depths by a few boys. She didnât even scream; she knew that if she did, sheâd lose her freedom and might be knocked out and taken away immediately.
At this moment, all her hopes were pinned on Ella, hoping she would bring help.
The group dragged Maya to the depths of the grove, using their phonesâ lights to randomly shine on her.
Maya remained calm amidst danger, staring at the group without a hint of panic.
The man leading them looked at her cold face, smirking as he pinched her chin and mocked, "We just want to have a little fun with you, no objections, right?"
As soon as he finished, the other men surrounded her. Did she even have room for objections?
Maya took a deep breath and said nonchalantly, "Elia sent you, didnât she? Tell me, how much did she pay you? Iâll give you ten times that, a hundred times."
Maya was well aware of the groupâs intentions; Elia was trying to push her to the brink, aiming to destroy her, but how could she simply let her succeed?
The lead manâs eyes widened as he heard Mayaâs offer, and he looked at her with a faint smile, as if saying, this girl has some guts.
He asked, "You have a lot of money?"
"Could I not?"
"Boss, donât listen to her nonsense. Sheâs the Spencersâ illegitimate daughter, not favored by them, otherwise, she wouldnât be staying in the dorm, definitely has no money," one of his lackeys reminded him quickly, seeing that the boss was tempted by Mayaâs offer.
The man, hearing his subordinateâs warning, leaped up and slapped him on the head, cursing, "Do I look that stupid? You canât tell she has no money?"
"Sorry, boss, sorry!"
Maya watched their performance and quickly took off the necklace from her neck, handing it to the man, "I have money, this necklace is worth at least 800 thousand. Iâll give it to you first, and I will settle the rest, five million enough?"
"Ha, Maya, donât play tricks, the most valuable thing on you is this necklace from your mom, you canât fool us."
The man unceremoniously pocketed Mayaâs necklace, with no intention of letting her go.
Mayaâs ploy had been anticipated by Elia, who had already told them that the only valuable thing Maya had was her motherâs necklace, and she wouldnât have anything else valuable to offer.
Sure enough, Elia had predicted Mayaâs move.
Maya had hoped her motherâs necklace would save her, but now, not only had she lost it, she hadnât escaped either.
Watching the man pocket the necklace, Maya panicked, lunging forward to rummage through his pocket to retrieve it.
"Oh, oh! The rumors are true, this girl is fiery."
"Maya, where are you grabbing? Canât wait to get it on, huh? Truly living up to your reputation as a little slut."
"Give me back my necklace, you thug."
"Slap!" Maya had just finished cursing when the man struck her face hard, sending a sting across her cheek.
"Since the deal is off, shouldnât you return the necklace?"
Maya wanted to get angry, wanted to kick the man and cripple him, but she knew she couldnât be reckless. All she could do now was stall for time, waiting for Ella to bring help.
If she caused a scene, it would be very dangerous. She could be knocked out and taken away at any moment, or even worse. She had to ensure she stayed within the campus, which is why she was negotiating calmly.
"And remember, take photos, shoot a video, get some close-ups of her face."
This really panicked Maya, making her step back repeatedly until she leaned against a large tree, wishing she could conjure a knife, but even a large stone was nowhere in sight on the ground.
She said, "I have HIV, donât mess around."
"HIV? Who are you fooling?"
The man said, tearing open Mayaâs shirt buttons, her white skin exposed in the shaky light, having a unique allure.
"No matter what, Iâm still the Spencer Familyâs fifth young lady. If you dare touch me, my dad wonât spare you, nor will my grandfather, or my brothers, Liam and Ethan."
For the first time, Maya invoked the Spencers to back her up outside.
"Donât worry, everyone will know, the fifth Miss Spencer is so wanton, loves to... Itâs nothing to do with us, we just couldnât resist your allure."
"Let go of me, or I wonât let you off even as a ghost."
"Brothers, letâs get her, donât let her yammer, sheâs annoying."
Just as the words were spoken, Maya fiercely shoved the man aside and ran, sprinting forward quickly.
Her move was so sudden that by the time the men reacted, Maya had already covered some distance, leaving them behind.
Meanwhile, Ella had already informed Ethan, and Ethan had called a male classmate, both rushing desperately to the small grove.
Ella, watching Ethan and the senior, held little hope for saving Maya. Even if they went, more people would just get hurt, they couldnât save Maya.
So, she instructed Ethan to head to the grove first to buy some time while she ran directly to the principalâs office.
Liam was not only the principal but also Mayaâs third brother, and although he didnât like Maya much, he wouldnât just stand by and do nothing.
Only Liam could save Maya now; only with his presence would those thugs be afraid and let Maya go.
However, when she arrived at the principalâs office, all the lights were already off.
"Director Ellis, whereâs the principal?" She hastily grabbed the director coming out of the adjoining office and asked urgently.
"The principal just left, do you need something?"
Upon hearing that the principal had just left, Ella dashed toward the school gate, not even responding to Director Ellis, knowing that regarding Mayaâs matter, none of the teachers or directors would intervene.
So, she had to beat Liam to the gate, stop him before he left the school, and block his car.
