Chapter 55: Chapter 53: TrickedWhen Liam Spencer got back to the other house, it was already 7:50 a.m., and usually at this time, Maya Spencer should be having breakfast in the dining room.
But when he walked in, he found the dining room empty, with no sign of her; only Elia Spencer was coming down from the second floor, unhurriedly.
"Morning, Third Brother!"
"Mm!" Eliaâs greeting was met with a perfunctory response, as his eyes settled on a certain personâs door, thinking, is she really planning not to eat breakfast?
Seeing where the manâs gaze landed, Elia hurriedly called a servant to ask, "Aunt Parker, whereâs Maya? Not eating again?"
"Fourth Miss, Miss Maya left early this morning and took some breakfast with her."
"Whatâs she doing? Did she get stupid from celebrating her birthday to the point of not daring to meet people?" Upon hearing that the Little Demon had left, Elia found it suspicious. She had sensed that those two werenât on good terms, and it seemed like the Little Demon was avoiding Third Brother.
If thatâs the case, so much the better, she thought. That way, she could comfortably bully her again. Thinking about how she hadnât bothered her in a while made her hands itch with anticipation!
Next to her, Liam listened to the servantâs answer, took a deep breath, and headed upstairs as if nothing had happened, though inwardly more furious than he had been last night.
So Maya really was hiding from him; he wondered how long she planned on hiding. The more she didnât want to see him, the more he wanted to run into her, just to see what kind of show her fake little face would put on.
Ultimately, Liam still didnât trust her, didnât believe she was without ulterior motives.
After fuming for a while, he came out of the room and drove to school to continue his role as the principal.
At school, Maya hadnât seen that man for four whole days. Her mood had calmed considerably, but her aversion and hatred for him hadnât diminished in the slightest. She vowed that one day she would pay back all the grievances she suffered in the Spencer Family, especially those from Liam.
In the classroom, she lay weakly on the desk, flipping through her textbook and contemplating the upcoming final exams.
She knew she couldnât keep hiding like this forever. Plus, she needed to gather evidence at the Spencer Family. To her, Liam, who understood her motives, was like a ticking time bomb.
Therefore, she had to take this exam seriously, to find a way to kick that person out of the Spencer Family, so she wouldnât have to keep hiding.
"Maya, what guilty thing have you done these past few days? Did you steal my stuff again?" As Maya was carefully plotting in her mind, Elia suddenly appeared in front of her, knocking on her desk to ask.
"Got nothing better to do?" Maya glanced at her, casually retorting.
"Maya, arenât you a bit much? I gave you such an expensive birthday gift a few days ago, and you didnât even say thank you, let alone treat me to a meal?" It was obvious she was here to pick a fight.
"Iâll return your gift." Maya replied lazily from her slumped position, thinking, so she was being petty over that birthday gift after all. She could just give it back, she wasnât interested in it anyway.
"Maya, even if your mom didnât raise you, she still taught you for 18 years. Is there any sense in returning a gift? Never mind, I wonât argue with you. How about you treat us all to lunch today at that Japanese restaurant near the school entrance."
"Yeah! Maya, when classmates have birthdays, they usually treat everyone to a meal. You wonât be the exception, right?"
"Lately, everyoneâs been getting along quite well. This is a good chance for your birthday to clear the air and move forward together as classmates."
"I donât have money." Sheâs always been honest about it.
"Maya, stop pretending. Everyone knows you get along with Third Brother. Are you saying he doesnât give you pocket money? Itâs settled then, weâll sing you a birthday song at the restaurant entrance at noon." Elia said, swaying her hips as she left.
Sheâs gotten smarter, no longer confronting Maya directly, but instead targeting her weak spots. She clearly saw that Maya and Third Brother werenât on good terms, knew she had no money, yet still dragged everyone into morally coerce her into treating them to a meal.
Listening to Elia say she had a good relationship with Third Brother, implying that he would give her pocket money, Maya was infuriated, angry at herself for having ended up in the hospital with that man, yet gaining nothing.
But even if she didnât get anything, she wouldnât go to Liam for compensation.
Originally, Maya planned to sneak away and avoid the lunch ordeal today, but she didnât expect a bunch of followers trailing her, even following her to the bathroom. She was sure sheâd make a fool of herself at lunch today.
In the end, sheâd definitely be mocked by Elia again, but whatever! She just wanted to take the opportunity to laugh at her for being illegitimate, laugh at her lack of status in the Spencer Family, fulfill her wish, and let her have her fun. But in the end, sheâd still end up footing the bill.
So, after the fourth period ended, Maya was forcibly taken to the Japanese restaurant at the schoolâs entrance.
Japanese cuisine is expensive, and with more than 20 classmates present, you couldnât get out without shelling out at least twenty thousand.
Beside her, Ella Turner tugged on Mayaâs sleeve, whispering, "Maya, donât worry. My brother transferred me money this morning, my card has funds."
"Donât act rashly, just watch the situation unfold. Thereâs no need to fight against money."
Maya would rather endure the ridicule than use Ella Turnerâs money. It wasnât easy for the siblings to save money; she couldnât just waste it.
However, when the classmates heard it was Mayaâs treat, they ordered recklessly, opting for the most expensive dishes.
Ella Turner was swallowing hard at the side, thinking even her card couldnât save this lunch.
Just as expected, when Maya received the bill, it totaled 38,600 yuan, and she almost choked. If her mom were still around, this sum wouldnât have meant anything to her. But now, all she had was a thousand yuan a month for pocket money.
Hannah had told her that breakfast and dinner were eaten at home, and all life essentials and clothes were provided by the family, so there was no need to spend much, plus, too much money would spoil a girl. Therefore, while Maya wasnât lacking in food or clothes, she was quite poor.
After looking at the bill, she tossed it in front of Elia, saying, "I have no money, you cover it, Iâll pay you back when I have enough saved."
"Maya, what are you pulling? Youâre the one celebrating a birthday, arenât you? We even sang you a birthday song earlier. Besides, I donât have money either." Elia tossed the bill back to Maya, crossing her arms, clearly not intending to pay.
"Then letâs all do the dishes here. I have no money, anyway." It was the first time Maya acted shamelessly in public, but simply put, she really was out of cash.
Ella Turner saw this and discreetly tugged at Maya, signaling for everyone to pitch in and return to the classroom to resolve it later.
But Maya gently patted her hand to signal her to stay quiet.
Finally, Ella couldnât hold back, suddenly standing up, "I have 12,000 on my card, the rest weâll all chip in."
"I donât have money, didnât bring my wallet!"
"Neither did I."
"Maya, how about this! If you give us a striptease, Iâll cover the bill." At this moment, a girl stepped up, volunteering to pay, but only if Maya performed a striptease.
