Chapter 89: Chapter 87: Fleeing in Fear of Crime Beside him, Elia pouted and said angrily, "Second brother, donât be silly, donât be deceived by Maya. She always looks lifeless, and her lifestyle is a complete mess. Last time, she went to a hotel with third brotherâs assistant, and the photos were all over the place."
"They even went to the hospital together, and you see how, as the holidays were nearing, she just randomly moved to live at school. She must have had an abortion and didnât dare come back. If you donât believe me, you can ask our classmates. She always lies on the desk motionless, as if sheâs dead."
"And once, when third brother was tutoring her, I went to ask him a question, and Maya was sitting on his bed, her hand on third brotherâs lower body."
"Stop it, Elia! Just stop! What kind of person do you think your third brother is?" The older sister sitting next to grandpa couldnât stand it anymore and scolded Elia with a stern face.
"Sis, if thereâs even a half-truth to my words, may I be struck by lightning. I truly saw it," Elia said with a look of indifference, raising her little hand to swear.
Then she added, "But third brother didnât fall for her tricks. I could tell that he despised her. And as for that Ethan Turner, Maya also has a particularly good relationship with him. In school, she always sits at the front of his bicycle. Everyone at school thinks theyâre dating. She even tried to seduce Henry Reid. Sis, you saw this yourself. She recently asked Henry for money. You witnessed this, didnât you?"
These days, Elia had been bottling up grievances towards Maya, holding a grudge especially since being surpassed by her in the exams.
Now, finally finding a chance, she naturally wouldnât let it go, wanting to make a big fuss about Maya, letting everyone understand what kind of woman she was, making sure grandpa wouldnât be so muddled and give her any inheritance. She came to the Spencer Family to stir up trouble and wanted a share of the inheritance while manipulating and getting close to sis and third brother, and at other times, trying to win over second brother.
"Nonsense! Ridiculous! This is absolute nonsense. How could our family have such a granddaughter?" Old Master Spencer, sitting in the main seat, burst out in anger, stamping his cane. He was itching to drag Maya out immediately and administer family justice.
"Grandpa, donât be angry, these are all just rumors." Jane Spencer sat next to him, patting the old manâs back, comforting him.
"Rumors! Rumors! Then what are these photos? Itâs truly ruining the reputation of our Spencer family. Kinsley, do you feel too idle coming back that youâre looking for trouble?" Since the rumored female lead wasnât present, Old Master Spencer naturally directed his anger towards the male lead.
"Grandpa, Maya and I are innocent. Thereâs nothing more to explain." Kinsley said, getting up and leaving.
At this moment, he found it puzzling why Maya hadnât returned yet. Where had she gone? When he went to her office after work, the door was already locked and the lights off. He thought she had come back early, but she wasnât home at all.
Hannah watched Kinsleyâs impatient departing figure, unable to hide the smile at her lips. She thought to herself, go ahead! Keep stirring things up, offend the old man, not getting any inheritance would be the best outcome.
"Jane, look, look at each of their attitudes, this family is really something, no one respects me. If I ever leave this world, Iâll donate the Spencer Clan, not leaving it to any of you."
"Grandpa, donât be mad! Let me take you back to the other building." Jane said as she helped Old Master Spencer up.
When Old Master Spencer got up, he glanced at Elia and said, "Elia, when you speak, you must have evidence. Without evidence, keep your mouth shut."
Jane listened to Old Master Spencerâs reproach, her face immediately turned unpleasant. She saw through the little thoughts of the old man. It seemed her earlier predictions were spot on; this was a showdown with Liam Spencer. No doubt, he was holding a grudge over the project in the south.
Elia watched Old Master Spencerâs leaving figure, pouting unhappily until the people in the living room had all dispersed, and then she sulked to Hannah: "Mom, what does grandpa mean, when have I ever talked nonsense?"
"Itâs nothing, grandpa doesnât mean anything, just saying to pay more attention and capture evidence if you see anything in the future."
Hannah had lived long enough to understand the little schemes of the old man. Nowadays, the Spencer Clan and Owen Clan were fiercely contending. Besides, Liam Spencer had lately postponed a bidding meeting and showed no intention to cooperate with the Spencer Clan, so naturally, he was not feeling pleased, wanting to have a few rounds with Liam. If he could grasp any incriminating evidence against him, it would be a perfect opportunity to pull some strings and suppress his momentum.
However, with the end of the denunciation gathering, no one suggested going to find Maya, as if her return to this family no longer mattered.
In a bedroom on the second floor, Kinsley had called her many times, yet there was no answer.
In the end, unable to rest easy, he drove alone to the company to continue searching for her but came up empty again.
By the riverbank of S City, Maya held a can of beer in her hand, sitting on a bench, drinking while the river breeze blew.
Looking at the flickering lights of the city at night, the endless skyscrapers, she surprisingly had nowhere to go. One didnât need much thought to realize that the Spencer family had certainly seen the photos of her and Kinsley, triggering yet another storm. She simply couldnât be bothered to go home and face it.
"While the Spencer family is in chaos, you actually have the mind to drink." As Maya was drinking in silence, a manâs voice suddenly sounded beside her.
She turned her head to glance at the man, and with a helpless smile, she picked up a can of beer from the ground, handed it to him and asked, "Wanna drink?"
The man looked at the beer she handed over, took a deep breath, raised the corners of his mouth, smiled, took the beer from her, and drank more than half of it.
Maya watched the man, stood up, took a long deep breath, and shouted towards the river, "Ah..."
The man looked at the thin figure of the girl, raised the beer in his hand, drank it all in one go. He wasnât good at comforting people, so he couldnât comfort her, nor did he intend to.
He just happened to pass by, saw her drinking alone in silence, so he came over to have a look, and incidentally relieve his own worries.
After finishing a bottle of beer, he finally said, "Go back early, itâs not safe out here."
Maya, listening to his advice, turned around, smiled at him, and said, "You go first! Donât end up in the headlines with me, or my skin wonât be enough to tear off."
"You leave, then I will."
"You trying to get me to drink and drive?" Maya looked at the man, shaking her bottle of beer as she asked.
"Youâre more sober than ever, I have no worries. Go back! If you donât head back soon, youâll really end up as a fugitive."
When Maya heard him mention âfugitive,â she felt a slight relief; it meant he believed her, believed there was nothing between her and her second brother. It was indeed rare to be believed by a man sheâd only met twice.
So, she threw away the can of beer in her hand, walked to the car, and drove back.
At the Spencer familyâs other residence, when Hannah saw Maya return, she greeted sweetly and sourly, "Oh! Decided to come back, huh!"
