Chapter 102: Chapter 100: Easier Said Than Done "Must I kneel before you’ll help me?"

In an instant, Elia was desperate enough to really want to kneel, but Maya responded quickly and stopped her.

She said, "No! Don’t kneel, even if you do, it’s pointless. I’ve finally shaken off Henry Reid, I won’t go provoking him."

"Maya, do you have to be this heartless?"

"Don’t talk to me about heartlessness, it doesn’t compare to you all." She responded indifferently.

Maya wasn’t one to be easily swayed, wouldn’t relent just because of a few sweet words from Elia. She didn’t act like a saint and had never engaged in such behavior; the fact that she hadn’t taken this chance to trample on her was already merciful.

"Maya, must I serve you tea and admit my mistakes for you to help me?"

"Even if you do, I won’t help you."

In the room, the two girls stood their ground, neither willing to give an inch.

Finally, Elia compromised, turning around briskly and entering the tea room, rummaging around to brew tea for Maya.

In the bedroom, Maya was agitated, looking at the pestering girl, feeling a headache. She thought, why is it someone like her? Doesn’t she know we don’t get along usually? Have some dignity, respect, will you? Is it worth it over a man? Kneel before a nemesis, how could she even think of doing that?

Moments later, Elia came out of the tea room, holding a freshly brewed cup of tea.

Maya looked at the girl’s demeanor, rolled her eyes, then walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, open the glass, letting the sea breeze in.

"Thud!" Suddenly, Elia actually knelt, holding the cup of tea respectfully in both hands, kneeling beside Maya.

Though Maya’s face remained calm with no emotional fluctuations, inside she was touched by Elia. She really couldn’t fathom how someone could love Henry so much, willing to kneel; but isn’t this love too humble, too disregarding of oneself?

She took a deep breath, turned around, looked down at her, and asked, "Is it worth it for a man?"

"Sienna just said she and Henry are getting engaged next month. I just need your help to drive Sienna away; then I’ll handle the rest myself."

"You will handle it? What are you planning to do, cook rice and drug Henry?" Hannah’s tricks were not hard for her to guess.

"Haha! You give me too much credit. I can’t even get close to Henry; Maya, help me this once! I promise, I’ll never trouble you again, our grudges canceled!"

"Haha! Why should I wipe the slate clean? Now, Grandpa values me; Big Sister, Second Brother, and Third Brother all back me up. The grievances you and Aunt Hannah caused will be slowly paid back! Wiping the slate clean, as if!"

Actually, Maya didn’t even care to fight with Hannah and her daughter, she just found Elia too annoying, so she intentionally said these things to make Elia give up, stop pestering her.

"Maya, one thing is separate from another, revenge separate from helping me; if you don’t help me today, I’ll kneel here, won’t leave."

"Kneel if you want then. I’m leaving." Just the thought of Elia trying to threaten her, her brain must have waterlogged!

In the Spencer Family, the only one she feared was that man named Liam, others she couldn’t be bothered to deal with—frankly speaking, she felt they were beneath her to engage with, given those petty tricks; only Liam had grasped her weak point, knowing her secrets.

The girl kneeling beside Maya, seeing her about to leave, placed the tea on the ground and tightly hugged her leg, not letting her go.

She pleaded, "Maya, show some leniency, meet again in the future. I’ve even knelt for you; you must drink this tea, plus it’s not like my mom and I have done anything to you, aren’t you living pretty well now?"

"That’s because I’m lucky." Maya impatiently shook her leg, but Elia held her even tighter.

Finally, she was worn down, looking down at the exhausted Elia on the floor and spoke weakly, "Fine! I’ll drink! Once I drink, you get out, don’t pester me anymore."

"Okay! Once you drink, I won’t bother you, but you have to promise you won’t trouble my mom in the future."

"Who cares to mess with you all, overestimating yourselves." Maya genuinely didn’t care to trifle with the mother-daughter duo.

Elia, hearing her words, quickly picked the tea up from the ground, holding it with both hands, offering it before Maya.

Maya looked at the girl’s submissive demeanor, rolled her eyes in contempt, took the tea from her hands, and drank it all. Then, she smashed the cup onto the ground, heading quickly to the door, indicating for her to leave.

Elia watched her series of actions, immediately scrambling to the doorway, reminding while heading out, "You’ve drunk my tea, which means you agreed; the past is canceled, don’t trouble me and my mom."

"Are you leaving or not? If not, I’ll change my mind." Maya said impatiently.

At this, Elia tucked her tail, slinking away.

After Elia left, Maya closed the door and walked out as well, thinking, what was all this? Actually got tangled up with Elia, a real waste of time.

In the banquet hall, everyone clustered in groups, each with their own companions, even Elia had her own friends, looking smug as if the person who kneeled earlier wasn’t her at all.

However, Maya was left out, not a single friend.

At the bar, she ordered herself a drink, nonchalantly watching everyone’s laughter and chatter.

Then, the host officially announced the start of the charity event.

This charity event was different from previous ones, as the opening dance required bidding. Regardless if man or woman wanted to invite someone for a dance, a price must be offered, inviting the person; until there’s no one left to outbid, then one can dance with their partner.

As soon as the host announced the rules, the crowd burst into excitement; a dance turning into charity was indeed novel.

At the bar, Maya listening to the host’s rules, felt awkward, thinking she’d better leave! To avoid being left single and embarrassed later.

But she hadn’t expected that the first bid to come in was for her.

"The Reid Family’s young master bids one million for Miss Maya Spencer to join the opening dance. Is Miss Maya Spencer present in the hall?"

Maya hearing the host’s bid, was dumbfounded, started to walk away, but Big Sister suddenly appeared and stopped her. She said, "Maya, don’t take it too seriously, it’s just a dance and all that money will be donated to children in need; just treat it as charity."

Initially, Maya didn’t want to heed Sister Jane Spencer’s advice, wanted to leave regardless. But after Big Sister called her, all eyes turned towards her, effectively trapping her from leaving.

In the crowd, Maya swallowed hard, her gaze darting, seemingly seeking help, yet finding nowhere to land.

"I bid two million for Miss Spencer to dance." At this moment, amid the tumultuous crowd, another bid rang out.
