Chapter 71 - 69: Gained Skills "Jane, I've run into some trouble and got locked up at the police station. Can you come get me?"

In the end, Maya dialed her sister Jane's number. Out of all the people she knew, her connection with Jane was the most normal, and asking for her help or owing her a favor seemed most reasonable.

"Maya, it's not that I don't want to bring you home, but Lillian and I are in France right now. How about I ask Liam to pick you up?"

"No need! No need! It's not worth troubling the Third Young Master. I'll find another way."

"Maya, don't be stubborn. If Aunt Hannah finds out, she'll cause trouble again."

Maya had no other choice but to agree and let Jane inform a certain someone for her. Thinking of asking for his help once more, Maya was reluctant. She thought that after doing well on her exams, she could avoid him for the rest of her life. But now that the exams were over, she had to see him.

Fine! Fine! Anyway, there are still three days until the results are out. After three days, they could complete their grandfather's task, and he could return to the Owen Family.

At this moment, in the Spencer Family's villa, in Liam's room, on the large bed, he tossed and turned, unable to sleep most of the night.

He had learned about Maya's exam results that afternoon. A perfect score, ranked first in the whole grade!

Just when he was feeling agitated, his phone rang. Spotting Jane Spencer's number, he immediately answered.

On the other end, Jane hurriedly said, "Liam, Maya is in some trouble, at the station. Can you get her out?"

"Hmm!" Liam listened to his sister's request and agreed without a second thought.

It's like the saying, 'You search high and low, only to find it effortlessly.' He didn't need to seek her out to cause trouble, yet she came to him herself. But she bypassed him to ask for help from Jane, which did not please him.

After hanging up, Liam changed his clothes and rushed to the precinct where Maya was held.

At the police station, Maya was in the interrogation room, while Ella sat on a bench outside, looking worried.

When she saw their rescuer arrive swiftly, she beamed and immediately stood up from the bench to greet him: "Assistant Reed, I'm really sorry to trouble you in the middle of the night. I'm truly out of options to rescue Maya."

Elijah Reed, hearing Ella's words, frowned and asked, "What did Miss Maya do?"

"Maya used money exchanged from gifts at a secondhand shop, but it was all counterfeit. Now the police are suspicious and have detained her."

Just as she finished speaking, they saw another man entering from the doorway. Terrified, she opened her eyes wide, gazing straight at him and calling out.

"Principal!"

Liam ignored Ella's greeting and fixed his eyes on Elijah. Ha! What a Maya. She called his assistant for help but did not ask him directly. If that's the case, she might as well stay locked up for life.

"Third Young Master, why are you here?" The staff quickly greeted Liam upon seeing him.

"Where's the person in charge here? I want to report a girl named Maya Spencer for counterfeiting and using fake money." For a moment, Liam was so angry that he forgot he was there to bail her out and instead implicated Maya further.

"BOSS, how could Miss Maya possibly counterfeit or use fake money? There must be some misunderstanding."

"Principal, the counterfeit was not created by Maya. It was given to her by the secondhand shopkeeper."

Elijah and Ella were startled by Liam's accusation and hurriedly explained, unaware that Liam was angry with them both.

The police officer, hearing Liam's report, was embarrassed, wondering who this girl named Maya Spencer was to warrant the Third Young Master personally coming to the station at such an hour to report her.

Listening to their pleas, Liam straight-up ignored them and continued, "You keep her detained, don't let her out."

"BOSS!"

"Principal!"

Hearing Liam's repeated instructions, the two became anxious, hopping in their panic, while certain someone remained as calm as ever.

The police officer scanned the people before him, discerning the discord among them, and guessed that Maya and the Third Young Master knew each other.

And as the Third Young Master, showing up at the police station in the middle of the night, it must not be to keep her in custody but to bail her out.

So he smiled and said to Elijah and Ella, "Both of you can head back now. We'll investigate to get to the truth and won't wrong anyone."

Recalling how Liam never turned a blind eye whenever Maya encountered troubles, Elijah decided to take Ella back first.

In the interview room, Maya, hearing the door open, quickly lifted her head to see a certain person standing at the entrance, face dark, eyebrows furrowed, glaring fiercely at her.

She swallowed nervously and lowered her head, offering no explanation.

Seeing her guilty expression, Liam put his hands in his pockets and coldly mocked, "You've grown brave after leaving the Spencer Family, huh? You've learned to counterfeit and use fakes."

Listening to the man's sarcastic remarks, Maya said nothing in return. She still hoped he would take her back.

The police officer, observing Liam's angry demeanor, offered a smile and said, "Third Young Master, you can take her. We'll conduct a thorough investigation of the secondhand shop."

Then, he turned to Maya and said, "Young lady, be more cautious when accepting money next time. It's safer to put such cash in a card. You can go home."

Only with the police officer's permission did Maya dare to stand from her chair and, feeling sheepish, walk to the door, stopping before Liam.

Looking at the girl's timid demeanor, the man sneered and said, "Maya, you've truly become clever lately! Something happens, and you think you can hide it from the family, hoping for Elijah to resolve it. Your intelligence has certainly increased!"

Yet again hearing the man's sarcasm, Maya paid no mind, understanding without much thought that Elijah was called by Ella for help—she hadn't expected them to run into each other.

She merely turned her head, asking the police officer, "Officer, where's my classmate?"

"She was sent home first."

Next, she followed behind Liam and left the police station, heading to the parking lot.

In the parking lot, she did not continue following Liam; instead, she walked toward the lot's exit, intending to hail a taxi.

Liam saw through the girl's little intentions at a glance, especially since it wasn't her first time ditching him to take a cab.

Though he had completed the task Jane assigned him and had no further obligation to manage her, watching her slender figure leaving sparked his anger, compelling him to question whether she had any respect.

From when she saw him until now, she hadn't uttered a word—what was this supposed to be? Was she disdaining him?

Seeing Maya's receding figure, Liam swiftly caught up, grabbing her wrist, and with a pull, she tripped and was forcibly tugged into his arms, her nose thumping against his chest.

Liam, standing at 187 cm, and Maya at 165 cm; whenever he pulled her, she would always end up falling into his embrace.
