Chapter 129: Chapter 127: Heartless The atmosphere was tense for a moment. Seeing that the situation was not good, Maya Spencer hurriedly put the contract on the nightstand and said with a forced smile, "Itâs okay, if itâs inconvenient for you, Liam, then forget it."
She had thought she could strike while the iron was hot, but unexpectedly, he was still unhappy.
So she hurriedly withdrew the contract. This wasnât her own matter, and she wouldnât do something stupid that would implicate herself for others.
The man looked at her forced smile, watched her climb off of him, and with a big hand, he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her back onto his body.
For a moment, Maya panicked. She thought to herself, what a mess of emotions; she had just managed to calm him down, and now he was worked up again. Had she known, she would have stayed out of the contract business altogether.
Thus, she smiled and added, "Liam, weâll drop it, no signing the contract."
"Maya, itâs not impossible to sign the contract, but I really want to know what benefits our sister gave you to make you work so hard for her," Liam privately assumed that Maya had come with him to the apartment due to some deal with their sis.
Maya listened to the manâs questioning, feeling like she couldnât clear her name even in the Nile River. She was just being obliging because she couldnât refuse their sis; there was no deal involved. She knew that even if she explained, Liam wouldnât believe her.
So, she retorted, "Do you think our sis can offer me any benefits? Can what she offers compare to the benefits you bring me? Would I risk offending you for her?"
Mayaâs analysis was spot on. At present, the greatest benefit to her was indeed the man before her.
She continued, "I brought the contract only because you two share the same mother. Signing or not is entirely up to you."
Liam didnât completely buy Mayaâs explanation because she had a clever mind. There were always reasons when she handled matters for Jane Spencer.
Therefore, he paid no heed to her explanation and instead said earnestly, "Maya, the contract can be signed, but there must be a cost."
At the moment, the manâs gaze was intense, as if he wanted to swallow Maya whole, moving closer to her.
Maya looked at the manâs impatient gaze, swallowed hard, and said, "I wonât sign, Iâm not signing. Iâm still in pain!" She explained while pushing against Liam, attempting to climb off him. Unexpectedly, he held her tighter.
Looking at her flustered eyes, Liam tightly hugged her waist with his left hand, making her kneel on his lap, while his right hand gently raised to caress her small face and finally stopped at her rosy lips, lightly fiddling with them, saying, "Isnât there still this little mouth?"
"Splash!" Instantly, Mayaâs face turned beet red. She didnât care about his anger and rolled her eyes at him, saying, "I wonât, Iâm going to sleep, no contract signing."
After saying this, she suddenly climbed off him, rolling over to the side, facing away from him, tightly closing her eyes, pretending to sleep.
The man watched her resistance and felt a bit disappointed, but didnât force her. Meanwhile, a feeling of unease welled up inside him. He realized that he cared about herâcared about her feelings, afraid she might be disgusted by him. If it had been any other woman, he wouldnât have felt heartache, but he particularly cared about her feelings.
Feeling her angrily lying next to him on his pillow, he wanted to distance himself from her, to clear his mind for a moment, yet he involuntarily turned over and pulled her into his arms, pressing his face against her shoulder, falling asleep.
Maya, with her eyes tightly shut, felt the manâs tenderness and was disgusted, even feeling a nauseous urge to throw up.
Indeed! She detested Liam, detested this so-called âthird brotherâ! Detested his abnormality, detested everything he did to her.
Maya had always hated Liam, but this was the first time she had such a severe physical reaction, finding his scent nauseating, wanting to push him away, wanting to kick him off the bed. She thought, perhaps it was because he had mentioned to her earlier about wanting her to help with the oral thing, making her disgust towards him grow.
This feeling persisted, even disturbed her thoughts, preventing her from falling asleep normally.
When she twisted her body again, Liamâs big hand around her waist loosened, grabbing her chin and asking, "Maya, whatâs wrong? Are you still worried about Henry Reid?" Clearly, there was discontent in his tone.
Maya heard his question, turned around, and under the faint light of the bedside lamp, looked into his eyes and explained, "No! Iâm just hungry and canât sleep."
At the moment, nothing was a better excuse than hunger, and she genuinely felt a bit hungry.
"..." The man listened to her explanation, speechless. He initially thought the girl was worried about Henry Reid, but it turned out she was just hungry.
Seeing her serious expression, he rubbed her small face and said, "Iâll order some takeout for you."
"Mm-hmm!"
Afterward, Maya waited for half an hour, ate a bucket of chicken drumsticks and wings, ice cream, and other snacks, then returned to bed to sleep peacefully again.
On the big bed, Liam watched the sleeping girl, helplessly raised the corners of his mouth in a smile, thinking, she really is carefree. While Henry Reid lay in a coma for her, she ate her fill and slept soundly, for her, what could possibly be important?
Though Liam didnât want Maya to keep Henry Reid in her thoughts, seeing her genuinely indifferent brought him complex feelings, as he couldnât see any warmth in her.
He pondered, if someday he were the one in the hospital, how would she react, indifferent? Or would she take pleasure in his misfortune? Or maybe sheâd show some care for her âthird brotherâ.
Liam found himself once more concerned with her thoughts, her feelings.
Meanwhile, in the Spencer familyâs other residence, in Elia Spencerâs room, Hannah pushed the door open and entered, looking at Elia with a dejected face.
Seeing this, Elia quickly sat up from the bed and asked, "Mom, whatâs wrong? Did something happen again?"
"Elia, starting tomorrow, you are not allowed to go to the hospital to visit Henry Reid."
"I wonât agree, this is my only chance to get close to Henry, to move him," Elia hoped to see true feelings in adversity, seizing this opportunity to gain Henry Reidâs approval.
"Why are you so foolish? What if Henry Reid doesnât wake up, then what? Are you planning to stay with him for a lifetime? Listen to me, stop liking Henry Reid. Moreover, the Reid Clan Group isnât a first-rate group. You must marry the best."
"The Owen Clan Group is the most impressive. Are you asking me to marry Liam? Want me to be as shameless as Maya? Mom, thatâs impossible, the one I like is Henry Reid, the one Iâm going to marry is also Henry Reid."
