Liam Spencer listened to the girlâs taunts, walked up to the hospital bed, reached out and grabbed her by the throat, and viciously questioned, "Are you tired of living?"
Jane Spencer saw this, immediately grabbed her brotherâs wrist, and shouted at him, "What are you doing? Sheâs pregnant now, no matter whose child it is, you canât harm her, or youâll be killing two lives."
Liam reluctantly removed his hand from Maya Spencerâs neck upon hearing his big sisterâs advice.
He couldnât understand, how could a young girl be so infuriating, always choosing the ugliest words to say. Couldnât she see that he felt guilty towards her? Couldnât she see that he was trying to protect her? She acted like a firecracker, even learned to self-ignite. Did Maya really think she could make waves as she pleased? Not knowing how to appreciate kindness at all.
Liam didnât understand, Maya didnât need his guilt at all, nor his protection.
After he let her go, he watched as she coughed lightly twice, then buried herself under the covers, seething with frustration, yet helpless against her.
Jane glanced at the two of them, truly unable to guess, what did Liam like about Mayaâs bad temper? She clearly remembered Grace being much gentler than Maya.
Actually, Maya could be gentle too, she could be coquettish, she just didnât show it in front of them.
As the saying goes, how you treat others determines how they treat you back. Maya understood clearly there were few people in the Spencer Family who were sincere to her, so naturally, she wouldnât show them her best side.
After a moment of silence in the ward, Jane stood up from the hospital bed and said helplessly to Liam, "Iâll head back now. Control your temper a little, Maya is pregnant now and emotional, give her some leeway."
Liam didnât respond verbally but nodded, indicating he understood, and then watched Jane leave.
After Jane left, the ward fell into a stalemate again, one lying motionless in the bedspread, and the other standing motionless by the bedside.
Finally, Liam conceded, took a deep breath, and sat by the large bed, reaching out to gently push Maya, signaling a truce.
Maya, hiding under the covers, felt the manâs gesture, and immediately shrank back a few centimeters to maintain a distance from him, indicating her resistance to his touch.
Liam observed her small movement and shifted a bit closer inside, continuing to slightly push her, while Maya continued to retreat away from him.
After several rounds, Maya was forced to the edge of the bed. Noticing her body about to fall, Liam pushed her again, and Maya retreated once more, letting out an "Ah..." as she screamed.
She closed her eyes tightly, bracing for the unexpected fall but was caught by someone. She took a deep breath and remained silent under the covers, letting Liam scoop her up and place her in the middle of the bed.
Afterward, he pulled back her covers, and she saw the handsome face of the man, but couldnât discern any meaning in his eyes, though she was at least sure it wasnât indifference.
She stared at him for two seconds, quickly rolled her eyes at him, and turned her head away to avoid his gaze.
Liam looked at her sulking appearance, sprawled across the hospital bed, clasped her chin with his left hand and caressed her forehead with his right, tidying her disheveled hair while asking, "Maya, do you really think being pregnant is anything special, that you can give anyone the cold shoulder whenever you want?"
Hearing the manâs question, Maya found it laughable, as if she enjoyed the perks of pregnancy and relished giving people the cold shoulder.
If no one provoked her, who could she possibly give the cold shoulder to?
So, she rolled her eyes at Liam and said dismissively, "Ridiculous!"
The man, seeing her attitude, cupped her face with both hands and said, "Stop messing around! Letâs just give birth to the baby obediently, I will take responsibility for you."
Maya, hearing the manâs sweet nothings, was unmoved. She clearly remembered when Sister Jane asked him how he would handle her and the child, he said they would wait and see.
So he only wanted his child, without considering her position at all. Give birth to the child? In what capacity? What good would it be to carry the child for ten months? Why should she help him have a child?
Of all the questions, the one that bothered Maya most was the last one: why should she help him have a child? This child was not what she wanted, and even if he reluctantly gave her status, she wouldnât accept it.
Her feelings for Liam were nothing but hatred, and she wouldnât give birth to the enemyâs child, nor would she let this child become a stumbling block to tie her to Liam for life.
Therefore, with big, unblinking eyes, she looked at Liam, explaining with a laugh and not a laugh, "Liam, this baby really isnât yours, donât overthink it, donât be a presumptuous father."
"Go on! Keep being stubborn!" Liam didnât believe a word of Mayaâs argument, not even punctuation. He was 300% sure the child was his.
"Itâs originally not yours, with how messy my life is, who knows who the childâs father is!" The more Maya saw how much he wanted her to give birth to the child, the more she denied it, refusing to have it. This was one point she would take to the end.
"Messy? How messy?" Liam said as he lifted the covers, quickly slipped inside, and held her tightly.
In an instant, Maya erupted, raising her hand and slapping his face, reprimanding with anger, "Are you crazy? Even preying on pregnant women, whereâs your conscience!"
"Yes, thatâs right! Iâve lost all conscience,
"Let go of me, pervert!" Maya angrily shouted!
"Let you go? Fine! Just admit honestly, the child is mine." Clearly, he was threatening her, trying to intimidate her.
However, his words had just fallen when they betrayed him, his intentions were too clear, so clear that they werenât scary at all.
So, Maya solemnly announced again, "The child is not yours."
As soon as she finished speaking, her mouth was blocked by him, thinking, her mouth that spouted nonsense really needed discipline, so he kissed her wantonly and bit down, disbelieving he couldnât handle this little demon.
Maya kept her eyes tightly closed, ignoring him, letting him kiss her. Anyway, she didnât believe he would actually go through with it knowing she was pregnant. Thus, with an attitude of a dead pig not fearing boiling water, she let him run wild.
Liam looked at the girl unmoved and found it tedious. He rested his left hand on the side of her head to support himself, while the right hand caressed her small face, gazing at her intently.
Maya looked at the manâs serious expression, a wave of nausea surged up again, and she suddenly pushed him away, covering her mouth, and rushed straight to the bathroom.
